I’m far from feminism having been a stay at home mother and then Mimi now for 36 years. I’m conflicted here because I agree with most of what you are posting. One thing I feel the angst of is how since I have NOT been a big money maker and no person with dollar signs over my head …It hurts if only those things define me and not other things I have to contribute that is not money. Sometimes I get hurt because I feel those things are more needful than money but this world smears it in your face that “no it’s money that is useful.”"Strength and Honor are her clothing
she shall rejoice in time to come..."
The woman of Proverbs 31 is being praised. But her way of life is insulted today. In the United States and other western nations, feminism's mission to get women focused away from homes has been a big success.
From the late 1800s first wave of the movement till now, feminism was never simply about equal rights for men and women. Many leading feminists say that the option for women to be homemakers ought not to be an option at all in order for progress to happen.
Getting women away from homes is the true goal along with getting rid of patriarchy. No father or husband rule.
This is now the air we breathe. Many dont question it anymore. With the options women have now, you might expect us to be happier and more fulfilled than ever before...are we?
This thread's goal is to discuss these things, to promote Scripture's values, and to share my story of leaving feminism behind completely to pursue a very old and often misunderstood way of living.
I want the men to share freely. A lot of you have your own experiences with feminism and Scripture. Please share them. Ill be sharing over time here and there.
Thanks for posting this. Every once in a while, I see posts on here that I think maybe tend to discount single mothers. Everyone does not have the same circumstance. God often directs His people not to forget the fatherless and the widows.Sad to say that there are many women who would love to be at home with their children but because of financial demands have to work, run a home and bring up children. It’s not always because they want equality , or that they don’t see value in being a stay at home mum , it’s simply that they don’t have a choice. I was fortunate that I could be a stay at home mum , but equally I am not against women having more rights than they use to have. There is a big difference in women choosing to stay at home, and being forced to because the men want them in the kitchen and don’t think they are capable of doing anything else other than being their servants ( or in some cases their slaves )
I'm confused. When you say Proverbs 31 is the "free woman", do you mean free in Christ? Isn't that a good thing?I’m far from feminism having been a stay at home mother and then Mimi now for 36 years. I’m conflicted here because I agree with most of what you are posting. One thing I feel the angst of is how since I have NOT been a big money maker and no person with dollar signs over my head …It hurts if only those things define me and not other things I have to contribute that is not money. All that said. You know I love you.I’m not trying to offend you. But to me the Proverbs 31 woman is the Free Woman, from above. As also from (Romans) when one is an adulterous woman and Paul says by the body of Christ you are no longer of the adulterous woman, you are Free to bring forth Fruit unto God. Christ is THE husband I think, known in the gates. It’s the Spirit of God which brings meat from afar…where “strength and honor”(the New Man) are HER clothing: Let us rejoice and exalt and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; [8] it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure"- for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. Revelation 19:7-8
You may say why does it matter. 1)To me it matters because when I thought the proverbs woman was what I was to be alone, I could NOT be the proverbs 31 woman.
2) the proverbs 31 woman transcends time. The clothing she puts on “the New Man”, her husband (Christ)is known in the gates, purchasing the field, …bringing food from a far all of it transcending time.
3) if the Proverbs 31 “woman” includes “gender” only that of female. it excludes Paul. Paul belongs to the Proverbs 31 here his words as a nursemaid (or something like that) I cared for you all, and also Paul showed me it’s no shame to be the weaker vessel in “we are glad when we are weak, and you are made strong.” Not to mention Paul taught on the Proverbs 31 woman in Romans saying she is no adulterous woman. But made free by the body of Christ, to bear children unto God. Through childbirth she is saved.
4) the woman that is saved through bearing children. If “they continue” in sobriety …be not drunk but awake(both genders), those drunk do sleep, sleeping in the night. The proverbs 31 rises while it is yet night. Wake up unto righteousness and Christ will give you Light. Be you sober(both genders). The “they” is to all genders…for the woman that bears children and is saved is the Free woman from above where there is neither male nor female, neither bond nor free, neither Jew nor Greek…but a new creature. Yea…the proverbs 31 woman is “a New Creature” neither male or female, bond or free, Jew or Greek …by the body of Christ, having put on the New man, where she is clothed by Her husband —His seed bearing fruit unto God.
….the heavy weight is having to live up to the proverbs 31 woman. Just wanted to share with you that He is a good Husband who gave Himself for His body. Maybe none of that makes sense? Maybe I’m talking crazy? You may ask then …how about teach your children to love their own husbands …? I think Paul does this in Romans by teaching them to love their “own” husbands …do you have masters? Serve them, even those you hate.
saying if you are bound to the law as long as the husband lives, you are called an adulterer. But if that husband be dead—by the body of Christ you are free to be joined, reconciled unto God being called no more an adulterous woman. He teaches if you are going to remain under the law and reject Christ. Then serve your master, husband. But if made free—then serve Christ. Isn’t that teaching children to love their own husbands? Which are you joined to? Which husband do you serve? I hear him helping children with their husbands. Even the echo of “you can’t serve two masters. Either you will love the one and hate the other…”
The proverbs 31 woman is “a New Creature.”That is basically what I’m saying.
I thought it would be a given that women would share so I figured the males would need special encouragement to speak freely. Thanks for your contribution as well. Thanks for posting this. And the OP even asks for male input--I didn't see any place for a woman to be invited to post.
Thank you for saying what you did.
Feminism has turned into a man hating group. In their view, all men are predatory and should not be sought out. The only exception is to use men like a tool in the tool box.If feminists were truly interested in the plight of all women, they would teach young women how to detect and avoid predatory men, and seek men who truly cared about them.
Homemaking is essential for a stable society.
Yes. Below you ask about “free” I meant but you are not of the bound woman but of the Free. I wasn’t trying to place anything else on it …like false burdens or “free” as in too free with morals …only pointing towards that woman that is all.I'm confused. When you say Proverbs 31 is the "free woman", do you mean free in Christ? Isn't that a good thing?
Explained above. If you mean "free" as in too free with morals or under a false burden, I disagree with both statements.
Me too. I’d be disqualified.I have been exhausted to the point where I did zero chores and only kept baby girl alive for two months. I don't believe we have to do exactly what the the Proverbs 31 woman did. Id be disqualified. I may never gain the skills she did, not having been raised to do this.
This stands out to me about standards of cleanliness and housekeeping that we judge ourselves over.I don't think most husbands and kids cares about arbitrary standards of cleanliness and housekeeping that we judge ourselves over.
Before I say anything I want you to know I love your presence here and I see you as one of the loveliest and most humble members of this forum. Please don't worry, Sis. I know you mean no harm in disagreeing because you're a good person.Yes. Below you ask about “free” I meant but you are not of the bound woman but of the Free. It makes me think of when he was telling those religious leaders that they clean the outside of cup but instead are ravaging wolves. Don’t misunderstand. I’m not meaning that towards you in any way. It’s only a thought on “cleanliness”. I do think there’s a connection. If you ever go visit a hoarders home … they most of the time are suffering inside and all that clutter piling up is the symptoms of it? No? I can relate. When I’m drowning in a mess I say … “this is what my mind is like right now!” And it’s true. (Imo) my purse was awful! Recently I decided to clean things up around me and get more organized…my home wasn’t an issue…but I tackled my purse. But I get this speaks too of my mind set as well. My thoughts and actions out from those thoughts. That is what stood out to me …those religious leaders didn’t seem to care about what was on the inside only what could be seen by others. They polished that up. But inside…He said were dead men bones.
Just thinking out loud….I honestly do think our outward displays our inward. When you mentioned you were struggling and only kept your baby alive. You were struggling inwardly?
I wish I could remember the message I heard a pastor speaking on the other day. I was in the car. I only caught a glimpse. If I understood him correctly he said there is self denial. How some will beat themselves to prove they can deny themselves of things and go without. But something the preacher said struck me as significant. Denying themselves of things and going without …when maybe the point is and was to give unto others of things that you’d lavish yourself with. I mean…love, peace, joy, kindness…I probably messed that up. But it does remind of what you said how there is trying to keep the law but then there is going further laying down your life for another which goes beyond not only not committing murder, but laying down ones Life. Before I say anything I want you to know I love your presence here and I see you as one of the loveliest and most humble members of this forum. Please don't worry, Sis. I know you mean no harm in disagreeing because you're a good person.
I was struggling physically with energy, mentally with stress, and spiritually with powerlessness and resentment during this time. The barely managed chaos that my home became just made me feel guilty but I had to keep going so I could keep Naomi while my husband worked.
I now believe God used this time to strengthen me and get me to trust Him more and not be so self-reliant. One example is prayer. Id get angry, yet I wouldn't ask God for anything...
As for the bondwoman and freewoman, I see those two as being enslaved to sin vs free from sin's bondage. The law of Moses was a form of bondage because it exposed sin. I believe living out the law of Christ which is love frees us from bondage because we do way beyond what the law of Moses requires when acting out of love.
The bondwoman just avoids getting punished. The freewoman has a changed heart and goes beyond just not breaking the law. She will do whatever the law of love in Christ tells her to do by the Holy Spirit.
INot only do I avoid murder in Christ, I can lay down my life in His name.
That is good. And I've definitely missed the point of going without too.But something the preacher said struck me as significant. Denying themselves of things and going without …when maybe the point is and was to give unto other of things that you’d rather lavish yourself with.
Feminism is an evil ideology that goes against nature. Men don’t value a woman for her ability to provide resources. Anthropologically, men want a peaceful fertile partner who can be content with what he provides.I’m far from feminism having been a stay at home mother and then Mimi now for 36 years. Oh Wrangler! It took me a little while to respond because something really bothered me about men wanting a peaceful fertile partner… it is the fertile part that got me. What if she can’t bear physical children at all?Feminism is an evil ideology that goes against nature. Men don’t value a woman for her ability to provide resources. Thank you for your post. You are absolutely correct, from a Christian perspective.Oh Wrangler! It took me a little while to respond because something really bothered me about men wanting a peaceful fertile partner… it is the fertile part that got me. What if she can bear physical children at all?
But she is a fertile partner in the grace of God where she is ready to conceive and bear Fruit unto God …would she also be considered a fertile partner? By the worlds standards her fertility may not be too attractive but considering peaceful is a part of that fertility …she might might make a good peaceful fertile partner? Even though she isn’t fertile to have physical children. Or can’t any longer such as Sarah… whose womb was dead. Going to have to think about that one.
