That's a rather sanitized version, wouldn't you say? Prophecies made that were not fulfilled make one a false prophet. This is elementary.
No, actually there were no prophesies that were not fulfilled….we just got the timing wrong because not everything had come to light yet. It has been the same prophesy all along.
Even the apostles got things wrong with the timing of this event…..how often did they imply an imminent return of Christ and yet here we are almost 2000 years down the track and he has not yet arrived as judge and executioner with his heavenly forces?
What did they say to him as he was ascending to heaven?
“So when they had assembled, they asked him: “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?” 7 He said to them: “It does not belong to you to know the times or seasons that the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction.”
The apostles were expecting the immanent establishment of God’s Kingdom on earth as they had been taught in the Jewish expectation of Messiah’s kingdom. But Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would reveal everything to them and to wait for it. What changed at Pentecost? They now understood their election to heaven and that God’s kingdom was going to rule from heaven with them as co-rulers with Christ and as priests under his headship as High Priest. (Rev 20:6) It was a huge revelation to them.…and an impetus to serve with renewed vigor.
We have made suggestions in times past as to the timing of this one event, but as Jesus said….it doesn’t belong to us to know
when these things will take place….we just have to be ready when they do. (Matt 24:43-44)
We know that Jesus said to his disciples that “satan has demanded to sift you as wheat”…..so sifting has occurred from time to time to test out those who were serving a year, or themselves, instead of their Lord…
Any who went beyond what was written and acted foolishly, paid the price…..and were sifted out.
We all have these tests from time to time to see where our heart is.
