People love to memorize a line of scripture and make a whole false doctrine out of it without reading the surrounding clarifying texts.

Ephesians 2:
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

The TRUTH is we must be born again. Those who have been born of God no longer sin from their old nature, because it is dead. We have been crucified with Christ. Romans 6:6-7. God, Himself, has recreated us into the image of His Son with His Son's nature which is empowered to not sin. There is no self-works or struggle anymore like those under the Law Romans 7:14-23. We have been freed from that sin nature Romans 8:1-9.

The false teachings include these contrasts between what God taught the apostles and what they say vs. the modern church says from teachings from the dark ages.

Paul: "crucified with Christ" are also "free from sin." Romans 6:6-7
Dark ages: "nobody is free from sin."

John 8:32-36
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Dark ages: "We are free from the law, not sin."

John: "whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not" 1 John 3:5-6
Dark ages: "everybody sins."

John: "21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
Dark ages: "we aren't under the law. Period"

Writer of Hebrews: "By one offering He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified"
Dark ages: "nobody is perfect."

So what are you going to believe? God, or doctrines of demons from the dark ages. Test yourself and be honest. Do you have the nature of Jesus? If not, and you care, ask.

Remember: 1 John 5:
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.

19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

I've notice a lot of mis-interpretation of scripture even supplying the surrounding text. They still don't get it or don't want to.

Also on perfection we must also examine what Jesus said to be perfect.

Matthew 19:21-23

King James Version

21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

I do. I take in the entire bible and I look at all the relevant text regarding a subject and make sure I'm not ignoring any biblical text before drawing conclusions. And when I find that I have not considered all I admit that I'm wrong and change my views.

I follow some Mormon doctrines, and some Catholic. But I find they are both flawed in their complete understandings.

Fascinating……I guess all of Christianity should go to you to get the proper interpretation of Scripture. Problem solved…..

That is true for me. I don't let a church tell me what's right or wrong. But I do learn a lot from church doctrines so I don't simply throw them aside. Fellowship is important also so there is no need to go it alone. But churches demand allegiance and oversee with dominion. And I don't follow that principle. Jesus is my God and head of my church.

So did you test yourself? Do you believe the dark ages, or the Word of God? Do you even understand the Word of God, or are you reading it with an unborn again carnal nature?

I like that you are open minded. That is the only way the Holy Spirit can get through to us.

I was going to say what the "modern church" says, but the reality is that the modern church kept the unsound doctrines from the dark ages where they originated. It is amazing how many doctrines today are the very opposite of God's Word. That is called being brainwashed and calling right, wrong, and wrong right. Isaiah 5:20

Romans 3:23 ""all"" sin and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
"Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins" (Ecclesiastes 7:20)

Yes, all have, especially in the Old Testament. Don't you know that is the reason Jesus came in the first place? Jesus is the only one who can remove the sin nature and nail it to His cross and give you His nature. Don't you know there is a difference between a person before Christ with the carnal nature alive and well, and a person with the divine nature? G, do you even want to go to heaven? Romans 6:22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. So, G, make sure you become born again of the Holy Spirit if you are not. And the clue is whether you find it hard not to sin, or if you truly are a slave to righteousness and abide in Jesus. Read 1 John 3:24.

Receiving the divine nature of Jesus is the only way your works of righteousness are His, and not your own.

1 JOHN 1:8 KJV "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8

and @Cassandra
1 John 1:8 is about a person that is self-righteous and believes they don't sin so don't need to confess their sins. They don't need Jesus. The next verse shows that the only way they can be cleansed on ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS is to confess. Repent. That is how to become a Christian who receives the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38. Verses 5-10 are contrasts between light and darkness. Verses 6, 8 (your verse) and 10 are all darkness. Are you full of darkness or light as the true Christian of verse 7 is?

G and C. You both need to believe Jesus. The Great Tribulation is just around the corner. Are you going to be protected by God, or have to prove your allegiance with the literal loss of your head? Remember this post when you are tested.

4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

Hey devin,

Who decides what a “mis-interpretation of scripture” is?

My Church our yours?
Why not God? If your church or his church or any church agree with God, then they are right. If any of them do not, then they are not.

However, even if the church we support or attend is right, that does not make me or you right, does it?

If the church we support or is attend is wrong in any point before God, what about us? Are we automatically wrong because we are there?
