Is my salvation based upon my knowledge of the Trinity?

You have the earlier translation of 1 John 5-8 Oz, and I agree with it as well...The Latin Vulgate and DR as expected deliberately corrupted and mistranslated many areas of scripture including this area of scripture..the DR version does have many 'tricky' translations right though as some others....I was a little hard on you today mate ..sorry for that...Oz

True. There are difficult issues in the Bible that can be unravelled only by converted believers, and this includes the trinity. Peter's and Paul's preaching of the gospel is centred in Christ, and total trust in the finished work of Christ is the narrow gate to salvation. The trinity is something which is spiritually discerned and therefore the natural man who is unconverted would not be able to accept it because it would have no logic for him. But once a person is converted to Christ, then a better understanding can be gained for it and other puzzling issues in the Bible. In fact, conversion to Christ makes everything in the Bible as clear as crystal, as many have testified.

As I posted in my previous post - Neither Peter or Paul preached theology or doctrine to unconverted Jews or Gentiles. Paul was quite clear to the Corinthians when he described his first visit to Corinth to plant the church there, that he determined not to know anything among them except Christ and Him crucified. When he wrote to the Corinthian church and taught doctrine to them (1 and 2 Corinthians), he taught people who were already converted to Christ and were therefore able to spiritually discern what he was teaching them.

But his evangelical message to unconverted people was, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ", period.

Therefore, believing in Christ and Him crucified is the path to salvation. Receiving theological and doctrinal teaching is for converted believers. The trouble is that many misguided zealots for their own particular theology and doctrinal positions make the gate to salvation even narrower by saying that one must believe what they believe before they can be saved. Paul encountered false apostles like that who went to the Gentile churches and said that they must be circumcised and comply with the Mosaic Law in order to be saved. So these misguided zealots are saying much the same thing - "believe my theology otherwise you can't be saved".

But salvation depends on total trust in Christ and His finished work on the cross of Calvary, nothing more.

The link worked for me. Grailhunter did the right thing. He labelled his thread, Grailhunter's Corner, and wrote an excellent mini book which I read with great interest and pleasure. I think our friend should have done the same. Actually, long mini Ebooks should be in the blog section where articles like this can be written without clogging up the threads, and people can go and read them.

As you can see by my posts, I certainly don't compromise the gospel of Christ in any way, and I am soundly based on the foundation of Puritan Reformed theology and I will defend it to the max. I also am adamant that Genesis 1-11 is accurate history and not myth. I got banned for three months from ChristianForums for saying that if Genesis 1-3 is not history and Adam and Eve were not real people, then there is no gospel and no Christianity. And I defended it to the max in my appeal against the ban.

But in saying that, if I was giving the gospel to an unsaved person, then I would concentrate on Christ and Him crucified, and once he got converted to Christ, then the issue of Genesis can be discussed, and then I would implacably state that it as a true historical record is essential for him to maintain sound doctrine and a full understanding of what Jesus did for him on the cross.
