Thank you Barney.
I have sleep insomnia really, really bad. Have had all my life.
I'll order some chickpeas or humus for the tryptophan. Milk helps me sleep some but I max out at 4-5 hrs.{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}
Same here! Would seem a lot of us here suffer from sleep insomnia.
Anyone here with a natural remedy?
Thanks
Johann.

Hummus has even more tryptophan from the addition of the tahini (sesame paste/butter)! :Zek:

If I lived near you I'd bring you some homemade!

Scrambled tofu and stewed lentils over steamed broccoli.

Mmm, mmm, good.

I love lentil soup; tofu hmmm, not tried. I think it's bean curd, correct?
My understanding of tofu is that it soaks up the flavors of spices added making it taste like meat. Am I correct ?

  1. Google "3abnplus healthy living"
  2. Select the episode titled "The Most Important Antioxidant" from playlist.

Warm foot baths and Hop(s) tea (no caffeine added, obviously) about an hour before bed helps as well.

I used to live in Mobile. My profile page is a mess. I live in central PA now.

Tofu is soy bean curd made by a culturing technique. It is a fairly natural process, and is believed to be instrumental in the longevity of people living in the "Blue Zone" of Okinawa.

You can actually make curd from other legumes like lentils (especially the red ones) and even peanuts.

Tofu has a mild but off-putting aftertaste to some, but is much better tolerated after eating largely of fruits and vegetables for a short while, thus allowing the tastebuds to cleanse or neutralize, much like rich folks do when eating a sorbet "palate cleanser" between courses of rich and highly spiced food.

But, yes, it can be quite a capable conductor of various flavors and textures. :)

Recipe:
Whole breast of chicken with skin, sear in a pan with butter until skin is caramelized. Add chicken broth, chopped yellow onion, 1 clove of garlic, lemon pepper, poultry seasoning, salt to taste. Cook until chicken is done remove skin add 1/2 stick real butter and rice. May add carrots if desired. Cook until rice is done.
Top with fresh tomatoes, parsley and or rosemary for garnish.
Enjoy.

Yum, yum, I call it chicken and rice. Not sure. Please describe. Thanks.
I saw Paula Deen make it once many years ago. I've never tried making it but I'd like to. She has a recipe on her website but it's not the way I remember it. It was a chicken and rice affair with sausage, carrots, celery, onion and seasoned with cayenne, paprika, and lemon as I recall. I can't have the chicken and sausage but, as much as it seems like a raid on the recipe, I can usually come up with a pretty good substitute.

I love celery, lemon and cayenne together. Of course, onions are laying everywhere on my counter. And I try to find a place for garlic in everything as well (the antioxidant load is just to good to pass up). I don't care much for sauteed garlic, though. I used to, but my taste buds have changed over the years (which can be annoying at times, actually). I try to poach, braise, or oven roast it these days to avoid any undue bitterness. And, I'm rambling again - lol. I love to talk about cooking.

A chocolate frosted donut filled with Bavarian custard.
When I was in the Air Force, stationed in Germany there was a bakery truck that sat right outside the base and they had these pastries that looked kind of like a personal pan pizza with custard where the toppings would be and half of a maraschino cherry sitting atop the center. The gal in the welding shop called them a "fried egg." All I know is I had to have one every morning! Oh, to have the arteries of a 20-year-old again. On the other hand, if I'd known I was going to live this long I'd have blah, blah, blah...
