Psalms 37 shows the wicked will be no more...

Ps 37:10
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
KJV

Ps 37:20
20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
KJV
Show me how David is referring to post bodily resurrection judgement on the final day, instead if earthly judgements he expected to happen in his lifetime?

Do you realize what tempting of the Scriptures of God's Word you are doing by your above question?

Your question shows you DOUBT future prophetic events given by GOD through David!

Did you not know that David also was a prophet?

Did you not know that in Psalms 22, David was given to prophecy of events of Christ's crucifixion that happened nearly 1,000 years later than David's time?

How is it then, that you do NOT recognize that Psalms 37:20 verse about the wicked being consumed by FIRE, which is pointing to the FUTURE "lake of fire" event of Revelation 20?

Just because David prophecies the crucifixion by the spirit doesn't mean he's always speaking by the spirit, Mark 12:36 reads: David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: “’The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet."’

Why would mark point out that david spoke by the spirit here, if he's always speaking by the spirit? also just because someone's a prophet doesn't mean every word they speak is a prophecy, especially a prophecy to occur on the last day.

there's no indication in the text that David is looking forward to the end of history where the wicked will be physically raised and die a second time. he says in v.2
2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.

its been 3000 years since he said this, what does he mean by soon? and how does this give comfort to any Israelite reading his words in David's day, that were really in danger of enemies?

3Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

inheriting the earth is dwelling in the LAND.

you bring up this passage:
9For evildoers shall be https://biblehub.com/nkjv/psalms/37.htm#footnotescut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.
10For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more;
Indeed, you will look carefully for his place,
But it shall be no more.
11But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

David confirms this earth is the land in v.2,
and also here:
29The righteous shall inherit the land,
And dwell in it forever.

34Wait on the Lord,
And keep His way,
And He shall exalt you to inherit the land;
When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

David says here the wicked are already dead:

35I have seen the wicked in great power,
And spreading himself like a native green tree.
36Yet [g]he passed away, and behold, he was no more;
Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.

Here David says the wicked have ALREADY PERISHED! this is not talking about the end of the world, but king bringing comfort to the people he's currently leading in his own time, in his own day.

the final verses say:
39But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
He is their strength in the time of trouble.
40And the Lord shall help them and deliver them;
He shall deliver them from the wicked,
And save them,
Because they trust in Him.

if this is referring to the final judgement, then why would believers need rescuing from evil people? when we stand before God on judgement day will there be hordes of unbelievers with swords and bows trying to kill us in our immortal bodies? ridiculous.

everyone I've ever come across that talk about these passages take them as the same event.

13The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second [d]death. 15And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev 20:13-14

And

24Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 1 cor 15:24-25

from first glace these seem pretty harmonious, Paul says death will be destroyed, and John seas death and hades done away with, but upon further examination, how Paul defines the destruction of death is much different than John does. verses 54-55 reads

54So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

55“O[n] Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”

so Paul defines the destruction of death as when our mortal flesh PUTS ON immortality, to further make this clear, Paul in 2 Cor 5:4 says:

4For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as [c]a guarantee.

So death is supposed to be swallowed up by Life, Yet in Rev 20 Death and hades are swallowed by the lake of fire, which is also called the second death, a place everyone goes that doesn't have their names in the book of life, if these are identical then the lake of fire should really be called "the lake of life" or "the lake of immortality", or "the second life" instead of the second death. Not only that but paul says this mortal PUTS ON immortality, so are we to put on the lake of fire? are we to put on hell? do we as Christians put on damnation? and if the lake of fire give immortality, then the beast, false prophet and dragon, and all judged at the white throne judgement are actually swallowed up by life, immortality and victory, I've concluded that if these are identical events then we have either
  1. Universal salvation, the lake of fire gives life and immortality, all who are not written in the book of life are given life and victory. despite them not being Written in the lamb's book of life.
  1. Or we have Univeral damnation including believers, putting on life, victory and immortality is actually putting on hell and damnation.

neither of these are plausible, especially 2. the only way out I see is these are not talking about the same event, but if these are not talking about the same event, then 1 cor 15 must come after Rev 20, because Paul said it's the LAST enemy to be defeated, therefore Rev 20 is not describing the end of everything, but 1 Cor 15 is. I consider myself a partial preterist that believes Revelation is about 70ad, for this reason I take this chapter as fulfilled as well, I just can't see these events as the same thing.

I've never seen anybody make this observation before, I would love some feedback, thanks
God does not give teh mechanics of how He destroys death and Hades- But Scripture just says He does- so He will!

@BrutalCross It is apparent that what is causing confusion here is what happens when we die. Mortality and immortality are being mentioned without any thought as to what they mean to us humans here on earth.

What was God’s purpose in creating mortal beings, made in his image and likeness, and putting them on one tiny planet in a small corner of one galaxy among billions, in a vast Universe? It helps to see where we are in all of that….and why we are here in the first place.

I believe that we are getting carried away with thoughts of our own significance, whereas in the big picture, we are extremely insignificant, but important enough to go to extreme lengths to teach all intelligent beings an important lesson. Is what we are experiencing on this speck of a planet part of a much bigger picture, the import of which most people are missing? Who benefits from this difficult lesson?…and why is the lesson so important that Jesus had to come from heaven to be born as a mere human to fulfill God’s stated purpose for our existence.

Go back to the beginning and ask why God put us here…..how did the Creator prepare our earth for habitation, when it is clear from Genesis that it was a formless void completely covered by water, before God began its renovation…..
What did he tell the first humans to do? And where did he put them to start their lives? What did his work in the beginning tell the humans about their Creator’s personality, and what he required of them? They shared life with myriad other life forms, all created before they were.…so what was their place in the big scheme of things?

If we can answer those questions from Genesis, then we will have a starting point to build the complete picture.

What does Genesis really tell us?

How is death and hades cast into the lake of fire, the same thing as death being destroyed in 1st Corinthians 15?
Let's look at 1 Corinthians 15:26
"The last enemy that will be destroyed is death."
The reign will last until Christ has “put all enemies under his [own] feet,” the last enemy being death. In other words, Satan and the incorrigible fallen angels will be destroyed before death itself. Paul said that death will be “swallowed up in victory” (1 Cor. 15:54). Verse 25 is restating the thought from verse 24 that Jesus will put down all opposing rule, authority, and power. Luke 20:34-36 reads: “The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world [the age beyond the Millennium], and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the [holy] angels [who did not sin when tested severely]; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.” During the Millennial Age, both the just and the unjust of mankind will be raised from the tomb—resuscitated—so Jesus was talking about the age beyond the Millennium, when there will be no marriage or death. Those who are accounted worthy to enter that age are likened to being resurrected. All of these characteristics will subsist in the age beyond the Millennium. The people will be counted worthy, they will be reckoned as raised from death, they will neither marry nor already be given in marriage, and they will not die anymore. Hence those of mankind who are obedient and gain life will be like the holy angels and equal unto them. While the angels may have a higher form of life, where one stands in his relationship to the Father is what matters. In God’s sight, therefore, a faithful, proven, perfect man who lives into the age beyond the Millennium will be accounted equal to a holy angel; the individual will be as much a son of God as an angel. In summary, those who get life and enter that age will be called “children of God,” “children of the resurrection.” In other words, there will be no more death in the age beyond the Millennium, and conversely, there will be death during the Millennium, especially at the end (Rev. 21:4; 20:7-9). Death for humanity on earth will be destroyed at the end of the Millennium. Disobedient men, angels, and Satan will be destroyed in Second Death prior to the very end of the Millennium. To say that the last enemy to be destroyed is death but that Satan will be loosed subsequently and many other deaths will occur brings confusion into the picture.

As to Revelation 20:14, notice early on in Revelation, Jesus describes himself in possession of the keys to death and hades (1:18). Now those keys are being put to use. Death and hades are probably two sides of the same subject divided by the moment of death itself. Death suggests the present state of the living who are under the sentence of death and dying even in life (Rom. 1:18, 5:12, 1 Cor. 15:21-22). Hades suggests those already buried in the grave. Whatever the case, these are both destroyed in the lake of fire. This is the end of death in Adam (Rom. 5:12-19, 1 Cor. 15:22) leaving only the "second death" or the second time the death sentence is enacted (Rev. 21:8, cf. Jude 12) with a final annihilation. There is really no other way to interpret this verse, since it makes little sense to throw death or eternal torment into eternal torment. And once this point is passed there is a new world without death. A new "heavens" and a new "earth" and the "sea" of troubled humanity is no more when all of mankind is at peace.

the second death is what destroys death in Rev 20:14
14Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Paul says death is destroyed when this mortal puts on immortality, so when the wicked rise from the dead and put on immortality, how are they still subjected to the second death, when death and hades are destroyed by the second death? does the second death give immortality?

That is what I tried... to show you.

With John 5:28-29, Lord Jesus showed that on the day of His future coming both the "resurrection of life" AND the "resurrection of damnation" will happen, all... in the graves will come forth on that day He said.

Also per Acts 24:15, Apostle Paul said it was his hope that there shall be both a resurrection of the just and of the unjust.

Now think about that for a moment. What 'type'... of body is that future resurrection when Jesus comes?

According to Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15, that type of body of the resurrection is a "spiritual body".

How then are those wicked also resurrected, because the idea of the resurrection means to a "spiritual body", like Paul taught?

That is where most English Bible translations fail, in the 1 Corinthians 15:53-54 verses, because Apostle Paul was describing 4 different 'conditions' in the Greek with those 2 verses.

1 Cor 15:53-54
53 For this
corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory."
KJV

"corruptible" = Greek phthartos - NT:5349 - decayed, perishable, i.e., our flesh body.

"incorruption" = Greek aphthrsia - NT:861 - unending existence, i.e., Paul's "spiritual body".

AND...

"this mortal" = Greek thnetos - NT:2349 - liable to die, i.e., soul condition, either made alive in Christ, or still subject to the "second death" of being cast into the "lake of fire".

"immortality" = Greek athanasia - NT:110 - deathlessness, i.e., eternal Life in Christ Jesus.

Notice the conjunction "and" between those 2 changes in verse 53 and 54. To have eternal Life through Faith on Jesus Christ one must go through BOTH changes, we must discard our body of corruption and put on a body of incorruption ("spiritual body") AND... our "mortal" liable to die soul must put on "immortality".

Thus the change to the "spiritual body" does NOT mean automatic Salvation in Christ. It just means a change to our spirit body, the putting off of the flesh body of this world. That will literally happen for all peoples still alive on the day of Christ's coming. For those who have died, they put off their flesh at flesh death.

But when Jesus comes, the unjust dead will be resurrected also like He said. And it means they will put off their flesh and have the "spiritual body" only. The CONDITION of their soul will still be in a 'liable to die' (Greek thnetos) type of state, subject to the "second death".

The future "second death" is NOT a death of the flesh again. It is a death unto the spirit body with soul, for those two things never separate. It is only the flesh body that separates from the spirit body and soul at flesh death. Ecclesiastes 12:5-7 and Matthew 10:28 showed this simply.
