Does God speak to you in dreams? How do you know it's Him?

Ask Him!!!

My daughter, because she knows me and the Lord, got me a baseball style cap with the words "How do I know God is real? I asked Him".

Christians are supposed to be His sheep and His sheep hear His voice. So if we have a question, we ask Him, right???

So what church should you go to? Ask Him!

What should we get from the store? Ask Him!

What plans should you have for today? Ask Him!

So when you get a dream, what do you do? Ask Him, right?

Both Nebuchadnezzar and Daniel got a dream, but only Daniel knew the meaning - why?

Because only Daniel believed in God, that He was there for be asked and heard from!

If you indeed believe in an omni-present, all-knowing, all-powerful, loving God, then you are gong to ask Him about the things in your life!!

Which is why His sheep hear His voice!!

The Father made the Lord our God, Jesus Christ, the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS over all things! And His Father gave Him all things, which include the very words of God!! Was this not explained at the churches we are going to?! It is explained in the Bible!

Ps 2: 6,7 “But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
“I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.

Jn 16:13-15 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
“He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.
“All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.

And the Father gave us [Jesus Christ the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OR LORD, who is the Word of God because He has the words of His Father) to us!!!!!!!

Jn 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

So you can ask Him, hear from Him, get to know Him personally - but will you believe in Him????

I don't mean to insult 'marks', who wrote the OP - but what are we preaching in our Christian churches, that we (Christians as a group) don't fully understand the Jesus Christ is there with His Holy Spirit to answer our questions in life???

Let me tell you, the answer to all the questions in our life is, "Ask Him and listen!" Have we not read:

Prov 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Yeah - there maybe and are things that we a just not capable with our minds to understand or it is not yet meant for us to understand, but He will let you know about that too.

Dan 12:9 He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for these words are concealed and sealed up until the end time.

Still Daniel asked Him, which is what we believers are supposed to do!

Dan 12:8 As for me, I heard but could not understand; so I said, “My lord, what will be the outcome of these events?”

So we read about Daniel, and others, asking the Lord and getting answers, but we ask things of other men instead of Him.

Jn 5:44 “How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another, and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?

I am not saying we should not talk to and fellowship with each other, but are we going to be like king Nebuchadnezzar who sought other men about our dreams and what they mean and who they are from, or are we going to be like Daniel who sought the Lord and listened to Him??

Choose now - how are you going to live your life? Is if by faith in Jesus Christ of not?

You remember vividly the dream when you wake up, and not only that it is from God and also what it means. This is part of the gift of prophecy.
I agree with this. I believe when God communicates with us, that He does in fact communicate, and so that we can understand.

Much love!

Yes, but if you find yourself still wondering if it was from God, then wasn't the communication from Him mean that you need to seek Him for more information????

In general, the Lord wants to talk to us more, and more, and more - so why did He give us a dream that causes us to want more information? Wasn't is to get us to seek Him and His voice about the dream???

Yeah -- that's it!!

One checks the message against scripture. If unsure seek advice from other Christian you trust.
I think that knowing the Scriptures is an excellent way to discern what's going on in our own minds, including dreams.

As we mature in the Lord, as He continues to train us, we learn to recognize His voice. He's our loving Father, and always is moving in our lives.

Much love!

There is another important factor to consider, those who dream prophetic dreams . . . does it happen? And do you have to tie it up like a pretzel to make it fit? Or is there a clear line of communication between the dream and the reality?

Much love!

just dont forget WHEN GOD communicates with us , whether by dream , by a word , a vision
HE WONT CONTRADICT HIS TRUTH .
SO if any dream or any word , any thought , any feeling or vision or etc
cometh and what is revealed contradicts GOD , HIS CHRIST , ITS A LIE and must not be heeded .
But allow me a quick reminder .
HEY mark did JESUS ever go around telling those who failed to believe on HIM ,
OH ITS OKAY , MY TRUTH is no better than your truth or any other religoins truth . DIDNTTHINK SO .
cause HE DONT LIE . so why on earth does much of christendom heed this satanic intefaith finding common ground crap .

yes my friend .
There is something else we must also consider .
WHAT If the dream one has DOES COME TO PASS and yet the dreamer of dreams was a false one
READ duet chapter thirteen for more info . GOD ALLOWS IT to TEST , TO PROVE US to see
whether we do LOVE HIM . remember false signs and miralcles and etc can be done .
Just as we have THE TRUE , so too we have the false . SO i suggest we TEST ALL .

Hello @marks! As far as "does it happen? And do you have to tie it up like a pretzel to make it fit?":

Interesting point. I liked your direction as far as getting to know God. God can certainly make it known thru the Father, Son and Holy Ghost that he supplied the dream. I don't believe I have received too many dreams from God along the way thru life. And only when I had asked in prayer to receive such direction from God. And after asking, it may have been a random and perhaps somewhat distance night that I received a dream from God and then he would confirm it was from him.

We find similar areas of symbolism, parable and analogy in the old and new testament predictions, which include visions and other areas other than dreams. Like the Book of Revelation which is heavily debated as to the meaning in the Eschatology & Prophecy Forum:

Eschatology & Prophecy Forum

There is of course the long list of false predictions thru out history found here:

List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events - Wikipedia

Although I don't know that dreams from God are going to necessarily predict anything. I know some from God are future outcomes that are possible and some are meant to direct the receiver to pray to God that he might deliver you from some disaster or other undesirable event. And is just one possible dream type from God. There are many reasons for dreams from God, including information someone needs to know in life. A loving message is also found in witness I received from others.

I often find that factors create dreams and I believe they are the direct result of stimuli we encounter in our daily lives. I think they are a form of stress relief mostly or they present some concern in our lives. There may be other dream areas of the sub conscious.

In the influence of dreams perhaps there are three sources:

God his angels
Man
Devils

Along those lines there are also other possible stimuli that can affect a dream state whether sub conscious or not, including leaving the radio or TV on while sleeping for some reason. There are other possible stimuli like electromagnetic radiation perhaps from cell towers or other communication devices too close.

Good to hear from you!

Well I guess it depends on how you want to define the role of God in dreams. Different people naturally have different intensities of dreams that affects them more emotionally. One thing I have to consider first is the development of dreams. We know that dreams develop within our brains. They have their origins in the physical world. They are not magic. Dreams are believed to have evolved as a way for humans to cope with fears and work through problems in their dreams. Dreams arise out of what we call the subconscious, though through lucid dreaming, other natural experience, can add a bit more self awareness to it.

So often we have dreams about things that are really on our minds. I would be suspicious of anyone thinking their dreams are from god as a divine proclamation on how to move in your life. People of all faiths have these experiences. Atheists have them. People using certain drugs have very spiritual experiences in dreams.

At the same time I think the Holy Spirit is in constant contact with us. Always interacting with us. I think all dreams could very well be something god works through.

I think it's safe to say that the dream about me and my wife naked in the backyard with a garden hose was not from God. But the same night, my wife had a dream that made a big difference in her life. She thinks it was from God.

I don't know how this dream stuff is supposed to work.

The Bible is full of sex. Maybe you’re supposed to write the next modern version of Song of Songs using modern landscaper jargon lol.

op: how do we know if a dream is from God?

A Different view for consideration ( for me, anyway ):

Prophetically speaking - God To/For Israel, At Pentecost:

Prophesied Promise Fulfilled:

"But This Is That which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to
pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh: and
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see
visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of
My Spirit; and they shall prophesy" (Acts 2:16-18 cp Joel 3:28-29 AV)

Q: If this is our pattern Today, then may I kindly ask: Why do we not "obey the rest of What
Jesus, on the earth, Commanded" - ie:

"Sell that ye have, give to the poor, and come, follow Me"
(Matthew 19:21; Luke 23:33, 18:22 AV)
And the Spirit-Filled believers In Israel obeyed "to the letter" (Acts 4:31-35 AV)
Many are seeking 'consistency' in Sound Doctrine, Correct?

Rightly Divided (2 Timothy 2:15 AV) From “Things That Differ!” (online):

In God's Other Context of "The Revelation Of The Mystery, God, for The Body Of Christ:
Is The above "Prophesied Promise To/For Israel" Also For us, According To The Mystery?:

"...( For we walk by faith, not by sight: [ dreams/visions? ] )..." (2 Corinthians 5:7 AV)

And, furthermore, to be consistent, are we commanded to "sell all"?:

"Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let
him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to
give to him that needeth." (Ephesians 4:27-28 cp 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 AV)

Next, if The Promise is not for Today, Under Grace, then what do we find?:

"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit"
(Ephesians 5:18 AV)

Paul's Grace Exhortation "to be filled" as we daily "present our bodies a living sacrifice"
(Romans 12:1-2 AV), Correct?

Finally, are the twelve apostles our pattern for Grace, Today, or is This What God Shows In His Mystery?:

"Howbeit for this cause I obtained Mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all
longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on Him To Life Everlasting"
(1 Timothy 1:16 cp Paul's "follow me" 1 Corinthians 4:16, 11:1; Philippians 3:17 AV)

Mon 11/11 Addendum: oops, forgot to note The Following:

"And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to
myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us
not to think above

That Which Is Written,

that no one of you be puffed up for one against another."
(1 Corinthians 4:6 AV)

I apologize.

As I said, my understanding "for me anyway"

More Rightly Divided study is here: The Filling With The Spirit

Appreciate your kind and thoughtful attention to 'this consideration', and Thanks for asking...

Amen.

From my reading on this topic, dreaming has a lot to do with "memory consolidation", where the brain sorts out the memories from the day, crosslinking them, interpreting them, and this activity shows as our dreams.

But then routinely dreams "movies" over the years, extended story lines that are coherent though days of weeks of activity. I think there's much more to dreams than just memory consolidation.

Israel Defence Forces have learned that if you keep a traumatized soldier awake for 24 hours then PTSD generally doesn't develop.

Do others share dreams that they believe are from God? How can you know whether it's true or not?

Nope…Have never had a VISION dream from God…

Do….Ask often, for His Understanding. Do get answers…according to His time-frame…
An hour. A week, Weeks…etc.
Never a voice.
Never a vision.
Difficult to describe….spirit to Spirit…and Spirit to spirit…answer to a direct question….answer appears.

How do I know it is from God?
I would say…Because it was God whom “I” expressly solicited…per Gods method of communication to Him…called “prayer”….spirit to Spirit….calling to His Name….

God bless you.

Glory to God,
