The chaplain was simply preaching from Romans 1. I don't think the government should restrict which parts of the Bible he is allowed to preach.
I hear you Debp.
Would it be alright then if the chaplain was reading from the koran?
Separation of church and state. Government shall make no law regarding religion. That's the first amendment of the Constitution.
I'm not arguing the sermon, I'm arguing the facility that is being used. It is a government building.
And it would be "unlawful" for the government to interfere regardless of what book was being read from.
What if the sermon was about making sure your wives were wearing their hijabs?
Then the argument would be .....
Personally, If I didn't agree with the sermon whatever it may be, I would simply get up and leave.
But someone got offended and brought it to the attention of the managers of the "facility" .
Now it goes up to Secretary Collins who is asked to condone or condemn a certain verse from a certain religion in a government facility.
Do you see the conflict?
Better not to have religious functions in any government run facilities.
How would you seperate christians from jews from muslims which all use the same VA?
I'm not arguing the sermon, I'm arguing the facility it was preached in.
