Day of the Lord=Coming of Jesus.

9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.

13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

14 And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.

15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.

16 Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

18 Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.

The Day of the Lord began when Jesus came to earth a man. Every true believer is waiting for the coming of Jesus AGAIN! For that shall be not only a blessed Day for believers but a Day of fiery wrath of God upon all the earth for those in unbelief. The on-going Day of the Lord had its beginning with the first advent of Christ and will come to an end when the spiritual Kingdom of God is complete and the seventh trumpet sounds. We should not still be looking and waiting for Jesus to come as the ethnic Jews still do! Rather we should acknowledge that Christ had come in His Day/Age/Time that will be finished on the last Day of His Day/Age/Time of grace.

No,the day of the Lord wasn't 2000 years ago.
There were no sinners destroyed when Jesus was born. There was no wrath at Jesus birth.

Isaiah 13

9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

These sinners in Isaiah 13 are destroyed at Jesus second advent.

Mathew 13
41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth

The destruction of sinners comes on the day of Lord.
Not 2000 years after the day of the Lord.

The destruction of sinners will indeed be, and they shall be utterly destroyed on the final/last Day of the Lord that shall come when the age/time/day of God's grace through Christ is finished, and no more shall be saved.

The determination that Babylon would be reduced to virtually nothing did not suggest that it would take place all at once. But it does suggest that the defeat of Babylon by the Medo-Persians would lead to this, which apparently was fulfilled in the time when Islam took control of the territory.

Again, when Medo-Persia conquered the Babylonian Empire, it ceased to be an independent kingdom, and as such, was reduced to the loss of significance as a distinct imperial entity. That it lost all of its inhabitants, or lost its status as a great city, was obviously realized in the NT era, particularly after the Muslims took control.

You are trying to apply a "futurist" interpretation to an ancient prophecy, which was initially fulfilled in ancient times, even though some aspects of the fulfillment lingered. You're right about this last part, though you're not right to interpret it as a futurist prophecy.
As I read Daniel and Revelation, it seems to be less about the destruction of Babylon and more about a transfer of power. The seat of the evil empire moves - from Babylon to Persia to Greece to Rome, yet it remains culturally whole, it's culture centered on money.

Isaiah 13

9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it

Note when the Day of the Lord began. During these last days, the prophet Joel calls the Day of the Lord coming, even at hand there shall be not only darkness and gloominess, and a devouring fire, but during this Day of the Lord whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be delivered.

Acts 2:16-21 (KJV) But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Joel 2:1-2 (KJV) Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

Joel 2:28-32 (KJV) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

So many people ignore the word of God concerning the attack on Babylon.False teachers leading others who do not study ,to believe Iran wants to destroy Italy. Its not Italy which Iran wants to destroy,it's Israel.

Scripture shows that Babylon is attacked on the day of the Lord, the houses will be ransacked and the women raped.

Isaiah 13
9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

Isaiah 13
16 Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

Scripture also shows all those nations which attack Babylon ransacking the houses and raping the women come against Jerusalem on the day of the Lord ransacking the houses and raping the women.

Zech 14
14 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

How do these false teachers explain all the nations being in Jerusalem ransacking the houses and raping the women when they preach they will be in Italy ransacking the houses and raping the women on the day of the Lord?

Common sense.
Iran does not want , nor will it attack Italy. It attacks Israel on the day of the Lord.

Isaiah 13
17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

Medes were an Iranian people who lived where Tehran is today. On the day of the Lord ,the Medes attack Babylon. They are not going to be anywhere around Italy.
Israel PLAYED the harlot. she was not the harlot.

The harlot is Not Israel. the harlot decieved Israel and she followed the harlot.

Babylon is the mother of ALL harlots (Revelation 17:5), of which Israel was one. It is the spiritual opposite of New Jerusalem. It is "the hold of EVERY foul spirit, and a cage of EVERY unclean and hateful bird." (Revelation 18:4).

There was no darkness when Christ was born. The stars were shining brightly and one star in particular was shining especially bright.

On the day of the Lord, the stars do not shine. The sun is darkened and the moon does not shine. No constellations are seen.Read the verses you posted.they describe the second advent, not the first.

Isaiah 13
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

When Jesus was born ,it was clear and no darkness.
The stars could clearly be seen.

Mathew 2
2 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

The day of darkness is at Jesus second advent. Not the first.Jesus is describing the day of the Lord here in Mathew 24

Mathew 24

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

A clarification in terms is needed here. When it comes to "the day of the Lord" that Paul wrote about in 1 Thess 4:13-5:11 and that Peter wrote about in 2 Peter 3:3-13, it refers to the day Jesus returns. Peter called the time since Jesus's resurrection "the last days" (Acts 2:16-21) and John called it "the last time" (1 John 2:18). So, maybe try using those terms instead of using the same term for each in order to avoid confusion.

Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. 2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

How exactly is apostate Israel "the hold of EVERY foul spirit, and a cage of EVERY unclean and hateful bird"? And how exactly is it that "ALL nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication"?

Ezekiel 9

9 He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.

2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.

3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;

4 And the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.

5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:

6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.

7 And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city.

8 And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord God! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?

9 Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The Lord hath forsaken the earth, and the Lord seeth not.

10 And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.

11 And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.

It definitely has something to do with the "passing of the baton." But I do think it meant that Babylon's decline would be permanent. Indeed when Saddam Hussein tried to resurrect the city with its ancient glory, the project fizzled, ending with Saddam's hanging.

By contrast, use of the name "Babylon" in Revelation is said to be a "mystery," indicating that it is a cryptic name. And this Babylon was evident in the murdering of Christ's apostles and prophets, which had to be Rome.

Rev 18.20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens! Rejoice, you people of God! Rejoice, apostles and prophets! For God has judged her with the judgment she imposed on you...."
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people, of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”

That description describes Jerusalem more than Rome.

Jesus talking to the Jewish scribes and Pharisees of His day:

Matthew 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

However, there are other descriptions of Babylon that are reminiscent of Rome rather than Jerusalem. And the great city is also spiritually compared to Sodom and Egypt (Revelation 11:8). Babylon is the mother of ALL harlots (Rev 17:5) and the hold of EVERY foul spirit (Rev 18:2). That includes, Rome, Jerusalem, Sodom and Egypt. None of those are Babylon. They all have Babylon as their mother. This is why I see Mystery Babylon as not representing any particular earthly entity, but I instead see it as Spiritual Babylon and as the direct spiritual opposite of the holy city, New Jerusalem.

3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;

The word says the remnant is all that will be left. And it Also says all will be saved.

If Israel is the harlot. NONE would be saved.

The harlot in the OT was baal worship. Baal is the pagan worship and was the true mother of harlots.. Not Israel.
