when I look back to when I first became Born Again, I knew in my spirit that God Loved me, but by meditating on his written/ inspired words ,about how deep his love is for his children, .....the words from the Bible really started to penetrate my heart.........the more I keep reading his words, the stronger my faith becomes.....God never lies....neither does his written word, the Bible....the word is our spiritual food where we learn to mature and grow, the word also keeps us on the straight and narrow.

Our spiritual food is something of the divine life. In John 6:63, the Lord Jesus said: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words which I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” Since the Lord's words are spirit and life, they can feed us.
Commentary.
“The Bible is not an option; it is a necessity. You cannot grow spiritually strong without it.”
Yet many Christians are spiritually starved and weak because they ignore the spiritual “food” God has provided in the Bible. The Bible is not an option; it is a necessity. You cannot grow spiritually strong without it.

Job said, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread” (Job 23:12). Is the Bible this important to you?

Don’t look on the Bible as a bad-tasting medicine—think of it instead as a delightful food that God has given us to strengthen our souls! The Psalmist said, “Blessed is the one … whose delight is in the law of the Lord” (Psalm 1:1-2).

You see, God wants you to grow in your faith—and one of the ways that happens is through reading God’s Word and letting its truth sink deeply into our hearts and minds. Through the Bible we learn how God wants us to live, and we learn too what He has done to save us.

Most of all we discover who He is and what He wants to do in our lives. The Apostle Paul put it this way: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

>>Tips for reading and understanding the Bible

How can you make the Bible come alive? First, use a translation you can understand. Then start with one of the Gospels (I often suggest John), reading at least a paragraph or two every day. In addition, always ask God to show you what it tells you about Jesus and His love for us.

I’m thankful you’ve made your personal commitment to Christ; it’s the most important decision you will ever make. But don’t stand still in your faith. Instead, ask God to help you grow stronger every day, as you pray, and learn from God’s Word, and gain encouragement from other believers.

“The Bible is not an option; it is a necessity. You cannot grow spiritually strong without it.”
"Jesus Christ is not an option" -- listening to Him the one thing necessary according to Him!!!

And this information is in the Bible - so why does Rita not understand this? Who is she listening to?

Let me prove it, and the Bible is good for reproof!

Luk 10: 39 -42 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.
But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”
But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;
but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Now because the Bible is good for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; because it's writing was inspired by God, but it is not God speaking to you personally, like He was Mary, reading it is not the "only one thing is necessary" as Rita would have you believe.!! Despite her claim, she is not actually going by what is written in the Bible!! She instead is leaning on her own understanding otherwise she would have known this, would she not? Maybe she has not been learning from the Lord personally for very long, but I assure you that He pointed this out to me personally!!

So while the first words I heard from Him were, "Read Your Bible", that was not the one thing necessary. The one things necessary is listening to Him, personally. That is to say that you must be taught by Him!! And a person can read the Bible and never listen to Him!! In that case they, no matter how much they read their Bible and studied the Scripture, they will not know Him and will not be saved!!

And that, as I pointed out in previous posts, it the real danger for a person. He is going to tell many who tell Him that they were doing things in His name; that He never knew them and they will be cast away to a place we don't want anyone to go to. But since He said "many", and He doesn't lie, it will happen that people knew enough about Him to do things in His name, but they still didn't actually come to know Him personally!! And how did that happen? Wasn't it because they read the Bible, maybe even putting their 'nose in their Bible', but they never did turn to Him.

And I already pointed out this Scripture that has what He told to the Jews:

Jn 5:39,40 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;
and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

Therefore Rita is clearly wrong in writing:

“The Bible is not an option; it is a necessity..."

And since this is a eternal life or death issue; the loving and caring thing to do is to reprove her for that mistake - just like Jesus reproved the Jews on this same issue. Still they didn't listen to Him, did they?

They didn't do the one thing necessary!

Proverbs 21:23: "Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity." Ephesians 4:29: "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

You would know Jesus
I know Jesus.
I've posted things refered to in the bible but no one will respond with further bible references.
Impossible. The reason no one has responded may be because you said earlier that you don't read the Bible.

Absolutely, Satan does and that's his God given role. God doesn't expect anything less. Do you?
Yes,you really should buy a
A biblical reference for you...
Jhn 10:3-5 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

Don't you know Jesus's voice? Can't you differentiate between Christ voice and the voice of another?

The Bible says.

Without the Spirit guidance through scripture, I would never be able to grow and mature, reason being, what I believe I received by divine revelation......how could I check it out to make sure it came from God....the Bible Of course....

I have to say,you all have a disturbing number of members here who are opposed to what the Bible teaches. They come up with their own Eisegesis, somegoing to great lengths with rambling nonsensical posts, just to oppose what God messaged to this world.

It's disturbing. Especially when it looks like song have been at it for years according to their profile.

I 100% agree about, it’s disturbing that some members are apposed to what the Bible teaches.

All we can do is post what we believe the word of God is saying.

Remember, God is allowing them to post what they post ,he allows me to post what I also post, do you believe he allows everything for a reason?

Yes. I believe also he allows some to post to show the adversary is aware we're here. Which is why he sends his people to inject confusion.

It's disturbing. God said.
Then there are those extreme egos that insist he never did.

And boy is it a shocker when encountering what thinks to deny Jesus being all that God tells us in his own words.

That’s interesting, maybe you can share some with us, my mind is certainly open....I’d be fascinated to see what you wrote while you were under the influence of the Spirit?
Not that long ago the Spirit asked me a question, 'Who does the future belong to?'
I replied, 'God'.
He said, then why do you want to steal what doesn't belong to you?

Then He gave me a picture.
I saw a person climbing over a fence, they entered the house and after foraging through the house they stole some of its contents. Once back home they went through what they stole.

A few days later the Spirit gave me a word, 'Context'.
I said, what do you mean by Context?

He proceeded to elaborate. He showed me that the person who broke in and stole was me. And what I stole was knowledge of the future. That knowledge became a source of stress and anxiety as I was not prepared for it. He informed me that God was going to give this revelation of His future plans to me but when He knew I was ready for it or my situation required this knowledge.
In other words, certain knowledge would be given to me in the right context, not before.

Here is one of many revelations given by God's Spirit to my spirit.

This one in particular has helped me to be patient while I trust in Him and His wisdom, to give what I need when I require it.

I do agree that he speaks to our heart by divine revelation, but, there is a but.

If that makes sense...I’ll see what you post , then question you on it.

Ps, you forgot to tell me ,how what you hear, is the voice of the Lord?

How do you know it’s the voice of the Lord?
After seeing my brother's journey with Christ in the context of a Christian commune where a group of men lived together in a large house after leaving their paid jobs. I saw first hand the love of Christ in action and the power of God manifested amoung them as their God healed the sick, cast out demons, their physical needs were met in unconventional ways. Food and money for rent was left at their door when required. They lived and grew in faith which as a young guy was an incredible thing to observe.
They told me they heard God's voice saying certain things to them. All thid impacted me to the point that I desired this kind of relationship they had with Jesus. We prayed together and I told Jesus my life was His from that point on.

It was the Spirit of God manifesting the Person of Christ in these men which drew me to Him.

I was told by another group that I should be wary of these extreme hippies. They got me into the bible and said this is all we need, not this weird charismatic practices. After many years of studying the bible I began rejecting and opposing anything that appeared charismatic or pentecostal, especially that of hearing voices. Anything that was not in the bible was rejected. I became what some may call a hardline fundamental reform Calvinist Christian. I stopped reading any books and only read the bible for a long time. I wanted to be a purist, not contaminating the scriptures with anything outside of it.

You can read and quote the bible to me.

Because I don't read the bible doesn’t mean I oppose its contents.

Maybe it's like this. Just because I don't drink the milk from my mother's breast any more doesn't mean I don't appreciate the practice of a babies breastfeeding and seeing babies progress to solids.

It's just that I don't require breast milk from my mother any more. But if you or others do than go for it.

I enjoy getting solids now and that via other means.
The bible not being one of them.

Thanks for posting your commentary.

Why do you reject anything charismatic?

What does charismatic mean to you?

Thanks again for posting what you believe, what God is saying personally to you, ....I know that the Bible isn’t God....that the Holy Spirit is Alive And Active.

You received heart revelation, ok,

Has he revealed the knowledge of the future to you yet?

How long have you been waiting for God future plans to come in the right context?

Knowledge of future, I’m trying to understand, are those words the words that are out of context?
...

How would you know that you are on solid food, if you don’t have the word to compare what solid food is?

What is solid food.....is it the word of God?

How would you even know what solid food is, without consulting your Bible?

What does carnal mean to you?

Do you believe that a Born Again/ New Babe can be carnal in their understanding of God’s word?

Seriously, how did you grow from a new babe? to where you are now?

If you say that you have only grown from listening to God, then I would rebuke everything that you say, why, because you have absolutely nothing to consult, which must be the Bible, ...wether what you receive is from God or not...

The SPIRIT is truly within the sheep of His pasture . Yep that is right dear sister .
If a man has not the SPIRIT of CHRIST HE is none of His and if we have the SPIRIT then the body is dead because of sin .
Truth is , IF GOD took His Holy Spirit from us , we would be as we once were , the blind leading the blind right to the ditch of perdition .
The lambs DO have THE SPIRIT and the SPIRIT sure does guide and lead us my dear sister . as you know .
And as you know by grace , WE test all things that men do say , even a thought that arises within our heads
AGAINST the PURE and HOLY WRITTEN words of TRUTH in that bible .
Many men are testing their thoughts , against THEIR OWN truth , their own thoughts , believing and thinking its the SPIRIT .
That is the problem .

I don't need to consult anything. I just received what the Spirit downloads into me. And where there is any consultation requiredI consult a Person (Spirit) not an inanimate thing (bible).

My referencing the bible isn't for my sake but for those who are familiar with the language of the bible. Just as I post in english as the user's of this forum generally use and understand english.
What does carnal mean to you?

Do you believe that a Born Again/ New Babe can be carnal in their understanding of God’s word?
When YOU use the term God's word are you meaning the bible or every word that comes from the mouth of God?
Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Obviously not every word that comes out of God's mouth has been written down in the 66, 73 or even the 81 book bible.
Seriously, how did you grow from a new babe? to where you are now?
By hearing and observing God throughout my life. The use of the bible served its purpose and was of benefit and profitable until it became an idol to me. Then I repented of my practice of idolatry. Now I invest my time and energy on maintaining my relationship with Jesus and Father through their Spirit.
I

Since not consulting the bible and interating with Christ through His Spirit our relationship has grown. The revelation of Christ and His Father has gone to another level.

Then over time I became aquainted with more and more people who had a type of deeper, more intimate relationship with God than I had experienced. Questions started to arise within me about my relationship with the God of the bible.

My response to these questions was to go to the bible to find answers as was my usual practice.

Then the Spirit showed me a picture.

I saw a person kneeling in the shadows of a gravestone intently reading what was inscribed on it. Then I zoomed out to see the sun shining brightly on the other side of that gravestone. They wanted to see and read. They wanted to experience the warmth of the sun and the light it gave. But there was an obstacle that prevented this from happening.

The bible was the tombstone that came between me and the Son. The scriptures became the idol that came between God and I. I repented of this practice and turned to the Spirit Who has been giving revelation of truth ever since. I love these new revelations and of course Those Who continue to provide them to me.
