Speaking in Tongues a Cessationist View

If you speak a tongue unknown to man but unto God it’s not a prayer language. If I speak French to a room full of Germans only God will understand. If you speak jibberish like what’s going on today nobody understands. God knows your intentions I’m sure. But that’s it.

Perfect example of what an unknown tongue is. Only God understands when you speak a language different from everyone else. The spirit in this verse is mans spirit speaking mysteries if in a language only he understands.

    Verse and context please.

Absolutely it does. Not the divine prayer language part though.

But tongues are for the unbeliever. As quoted above: the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. - Acts 19 Its for teaching. Its The ability for someone to hear the Gospel when there is a language barrier. Many think its a divine prayer language but I havn't been...

The apostles got the gift without hands and I highly doubt they were able to lay hands on the thousands at Pentecost.

God gave each person the ability to understand in his and her language. The outpouring on Pentecost is not the same as Paul describes to the Corinthians. Were there interpreters at Pentecost? No, everyone understood without interpretation. Paul said to the Corinthians an interpreter must be...

Learning to communicate for food is very different than being able to teach the Gospel.

Well I've heard of people going into countries to teach not knowing the native language and being able to either learn the language very quick or be able to communicate clearly. To me that is a gift.

Tongues was used to teach. That's its original purpose and that's its purpose today. If someone has that gift its the ability to spread the Gospel in another language. Pentecost was a gathering of hundreds if not thousands of people. What better way to teach to everyone the good news than have...

Than we have a different understanding. Can you show me where you think I'm mistaken?

Actually I can. For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. Is this different than Pentecost? Tongues used by the Disciples on Pentecost was for man. Tongues used in Church is confusion if not...

I agree with him completely. Two different situations though. Pentecost was a miracle because they ALL understood. Church of Corinth is a totally different situation.

Yes they were. Just a language foreign to them that's all.

Speaking in Tongues a Cessationist View

I believe this is false. When a person speaks his or her native language nobody can understand except God. That is why Paul said there needs to be an interpreter. The reason he said this is because the Church of Corinth was a hub for many people of many nations and languages so he didn't want...

Trump is the worst President to hold this office

I'm Canadian and proud of it. I'm ashamed of our government though. I like what Trump is doing for the US. As a person I'm not a fan of him. As a president I am. Wish we had him here.

    Flat earth.

We understand this the same way. Unfortunately he doesn't, even after explaining it to him the same way you just did. He said water above means water, not clouds. My problem is he's taking the words very literal. Circle is a circle, foundation is a foundation, even though it has two meanings he...
