    It's a funny thing...

Why not after you die? What's the difference?

    It's a funny thing...

That's what I meant. My apologies. You as well, Matthias. But how is this so? What is the process? Why do we not see the soul leaving the body when people die? I guess it largely depends on how one dies.

    It's a funny thing...

I'm curious. Where were you before you were born? Did you feel horror? Do you have any memories from that time? I've seen people die. There's no magical moment where the soul leaves the body. They just die. They return to the state that they existed in before being born. The state of non-existence.

How a Skeptical Philosopher Becomes a Christian

You claim to be teaching them to read critically. How do they even know what this means if you don't explain it to them? Laws, yes. But not so much in the way of moralistic rules. It's the moralism that I take issue with. Fair enough.

How a Skeptical Philosopher Becomes a Christian

They call themselves Christians, but they don't care what's on the bible beyond what the pastor tells them is in there. Such is not the case with Islam. They read their holy book. Fair enough. Then you can't blame them for walking away after being critical of the material. They're doing...

How a Skeptical Philosopher Becomes a Christian

Not everyone, no. But a great many Christians don't even read the bible. When they finally do, they of course have questions. Based on my own experience, Christian leaders, pastors and such, are just as much in the dark on these questions as any other Christians. When I went to a private...

How a Skeptical Philosopher Becomes a Christian

It's really not so complicated. I read Genesis and decided it couldn't possibly be true. In fact, many ex-Christians often say that reading the bible was a revelation for them and a contributing factor, if not the main factor, in why they abandoned the religion. Many of them have no idea how far...

How a Skeptical Philosopher Becomes a Christian

The same can be said for Christians. It's ultimately about what you can bring yourself to believe. I'm doing better, thanks. How about yourself?

How a Skeptical Philosopher Becomes a Christian

I'm sorry, but if you have to post a 14,000 word essay to get your point across, I'm just really not interested. Besides, anyone can open a bible and read Genesis. It's kind of a litmus test.

    It's a funny thing...

Because I believed there was a chance I was wrong about people. I know now that I wasn't. I don't wish to discuss it further.

    I was replying to you.

I don't care anymore. The people of this world don't deserve to be saved. I'm finished pretending otherwise.

A little like looking for a black cat in a dark room, eh?

Isn't that organization run by the doofus that thinks humans and dinosaurs lived together? He's right though. If you take Genesis literally, there's no room for evolution.

Critical thinking and education is linked to loss of faith

But how could Eve think critically if those skills were never developed? You can hardly blame her. For all intents and purposes, both of these people had the minds of children.

Because I was raised to not believe in such things. It's not like flipping a switch. Like Rambo one said, "you can't just turn it off". Sure. But this is the word of God we're talking about here. It should be accurate.

    I have not.

    Personal Growth

They haven't told me anything. Not really. It's always sort of an on again, off again, kind of thing. Some days, I believe in it. Other days, I absolutely do not. It makes it very difficult to lay down roots, so to speak.

Many Christians would disagree and cite the resurrection as proof of his divinity. I agree. They had the advantage of having been alive when Jesus walked the earth. But why wouldn't hey know more than Moses? Obviously Moses didn't know about the existence of dinosaurs either. I think it...

    Personal Growth

What about when he stands before the people and says, "Before Abraham, I am."? It has not been proven. If it were, there would be no need for faith. I agree. The thing is, why does he believe it if it's written by fallible human beings and is therefore, subject to error? For example, you don't...
