Jesus asks us to be humble, not a "born again" snob

I think many Christians are afraid to doubt. Think about all the people in history that were certain about something. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Jim Jones, etc. Think of all the death and destruction that level of certainty caused. In less extreme examples, we can observe the number of Christians...

Jesus asks us to be humble, not a "born again" snob

No demons are required. It is my belief that imposing eternal punishments for finite crimes is evil. It's very much something a human being would dream up in order to scare people. Just look at Islam. They also use the concept of hell to keep people in line. The thing is, it doesn't sound like...

Jesus asks us to be humble, not a "born again" snob

Eternal torment for not believing something. Are you really suggesting that human beings have a higher code of ethics than God? We used to burn people alive for all sorts of stupid reasons. Then we realized it was morally reprehensible and stopped doing it. Eternal punishments for finite...

Why belief in a god is an unfalsifiable claim that serves no purpose

I was taught critical thinking at a very young age. We had good teachers in the 90's. Apparently I've also been denied entry into the rest of the forum. So I guess I'll just be sticking around here for a while longer.

Why belief in a god is an unfalsifiable claim that serves no purpose

His words seem like deception to me. If one doesn't believe in the scientific consensus on evolution, then just say so. Instead he cloaks it in this sort of word salad, about not trusting in his own thinking.

Why belief in a god is an unfalsifiable claim that serves no purpose

If he can't trust his own thinking, how did he function day to day?

I hate myself, and hate being an atheist.

Only if they say that it was a waste. Some do when they get older. The longer you live, the more you lose. It's enough to make a man bitter.

    It's a funny thing...

Ah, okay. Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to pray for me. You bet. Likewise, friend.

    It's a funny thing...

Yeah, I can see why they might take issue with that. Why call yourself a Christian then?

    It's a funny thing...

No. I'm afraid of being bamboozled by Christians. It's sometimes difficult to tell who's genuine and who isn't. Since we last spoke, there have been some changes. Long story short, I basically spoke to God, like I'm speaking with you now. I laid it all out and said what I needed to say. At the...

    It's a funny thing...

Do you think technology and life being easier in the West has contributed to the disbelief in God? I always find that when things aren't going well, especially health wise, my mind tends to go back to God. The thing is, this impending doom I've been feeling... maybe it's something serious. I...

    Personal Growth

So... every soul dies upon physical death? Why do you believe that? But you don't believe it. I'll admit, I'm not well versed in the prophecies about Jesus. It's something I have to study. But how could Jesus not know if he is God? He clearly knew things that others did not while he walked...

    Personal Growth

But if we remain dead, regardless of what we believe when we're alive, then where did his soul go? Most Christians I've spoken with over the years believe we either go to heaven or hell upon death. There can't be. But the bible makes many claims about what will happen in the future. Do you...

    Personal Growth

Because it would appear that the book is closed on him. As much as it appears that it is closed on the dinosaurs. The atheist is simply accepting what he's seeing with his own eyes. Only because there is no evidence of a second death. Then most of the world will be in for a surprise. But...

    Personal Growth

Well then there's really no difference between the atheist point of view on death and yours. Except that you believe the Messish will return one day to bring all of these dead people back to life. What if he doesn't? He hasn't so far. I guess we all just remain dead, eh?

    Personal Growth

You believe everyone is still dead and waiting for judgment? There are no souls in heaven or hell currently?

    Personal Growth

I'm often amazed at how so many people go through life not questioning the nature of reality, and their own existence. I see this on both sides of the spiritual divide. Believers and non-believers alike. I was watching a video earlier. It was showing people digging up artifacts from WW2. They...
