Has anyone else noticed that threads which discuss our salvation become so focused on sin?

Why is that?

Salvation is through faith in Christ.

Why aren't we talking more about that?

When we sin, and don't repent, we loose our salvation. For you see we have to repent to have forgiveness of our sins (Acts). Because Jesus does not wish that any should perish, but that we all should reach repentance (2 Peter). Maybe that is why threads which discuss our salvation become so focused on sin?

I agree with you that "Salvation is through faith in Christ"!!! But that is only part of the story told in Scripture. Here is, as Paul Harvey would say, The Rest of the Story:

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans). He even told us if we confesse Him before men the Son of Man also will confess on our behalf before the angels of God (Luke).

AND, Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved (Mark) because Baptism saves you (1 Peter)

After we have faith in Him and have become Christians He tells us that He will render to each one according to his works (Romans). Christians also know that we must have good works because He has made it clear that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone (James).

I think he means we have more freedom to chose rather than being controlled as a slave to a carnal nature.

My beliefs are similar, except I do believe Jesus means for us to be sinless, and gives us His Spirit to accomplish that. Putting sinless and perfection together is wrong for those newly born again. We become sinless when we become free from sin, and choose righteousness, but we do not become perfect unless we grow to maturity in the fruit of the Spirit. Two different things.

There is no difference. They go hand in hand. To achieve obedience you must have something to be obedient to.... a law.

I don’t over complicate the simple things of scripture.

Legalism means to promote legal dealings (when did that become a bad thing to do?!). If I do what is illegal I go to jail. If I have a mind and desire to please God, then I observe the rules and follow them. If you love God, you keep his law.

That’s legalism.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15)

And the chief lawman is the LORD!

Sorry but biblical legalism is not what you define it as. It is attempting to gain righteousness by teh deeds of the law and to impose the law on others. THE law of Moses is no longer in effect. We are saved by Jesus' blood. We are kept saved by jesus' life and we manifest the righteousness of Christ who is our righteousness, by doing good works or obedience.

That is the simple bible.

Well I better know the Lord and His Word better than a novice in the faith and I better have learned lessons in life. After all we are not supposed to be ignorant of our enemies devices- that takes learning and knowledge, and that comes with time.

That's what I finally began to learn!

Walking away from sin maintains my relationship with sin, OT style repentance, no "born again", no new life. Walking towards Christ is all about my relationship with Him, and just so happens to lead me away from sin.

YOu got it! Walking away from something or someone means walking towards something or someone! If we look to Jesus, we don't think of sin. When temptation comes and it seems sin surrounds us- we just keep looking and soon enough, the storm passes.

@Ronald Nolette A lot of ppl talk about extra experiences of the Spirit, but He indeed comes to indwell at the new birth; Romans 8.9 says: "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His'.

More often than not those "experiences" as they call them, are either emotional experiences or a fresh anointing of the Spirit for a purpose and reason. He live in us forever, but we need anointing's for service and battle when called to it.

@Ronald Nolette We are indeed positionally sanctified; but there is also the daily walk that should be in the Spirit. Paul addresses believes as saints positionally, but there is also the daily walk.

@Ronald Nolette I can't help going back to Hebrews 7.12 which shows that the law was changed; and to Hebrews 7.19, which shows that what we now have is better than the law.

I was emotionally numb for about a week after my rebirth. Which fits with what's up with me. Joy came later.

I think we may be filled with the Spirit at later times for special reasons, but that shouldn't be misunderstood as a "second benefit", or something like that.

I felt nothing. That night I was in a motel with my fiancee. I didn't know what right from wrong was! A month later, my aunt who led me to the Lord sent me a bible in the mail. I started reading it and went WOAH! I believed in reincarnation and put that in a Christian angel. die come back better etc. until I come back, live perfect and die and go to heaven.

When I got the Bible I flipped it open and the verse I saw was "It is determined for man to die once, then comes their judgment!" I had been a Satanist and extreme hedonist so I was real empty spirtitually. I lost my job. Then spent 12 hours a day reading SCripture for months before I even thought about church. I found a Christian bookstore and spent a small fortune on doctrine books. I had to know the Truth. Not only how to rightly divide the word of God, but to get to know th eSavior that my aunt said loved me, but I was still struggling to actually believe He could love someone who had committed as much evil as I had.

I know the patinece God has with His children and after 46 years of being His child by grace, marvel in the Love He has for us!

Position versus practice! we are perfected forever, now we are learning to walk in what God made us. shedding of the old to adopt the new.

Instead of frantic law-keeping efforts, the believer can indeed rest in heavenly citizenship by grace, through the work of Christ.

Should you ever wish to hear my reasons for thinking that our rebirth is forever I'd be happy to share!

In being justified by works, I think this is to men, as God already knows. Since it's God Who justifies us in the first place. Does that sound right to you?

Cheap grace, or a very offensive term to me - "greasy grace" as if grace would be slimy? - is an empty accusation slung as an insult against those who believe in a full forgiveness, a full reconciliation.

BTW, I hate your definition of grace. #128 It is not the biblical definition. And I don't like cheap false grace either, what most false doctrines of demons are based on. Honestly, what I don't understand about you is that I know you've experienced grace, so why is it you haven't discerned its true definition and confirmed it in Scripture like I did. Put on your thinking cap, and stop teaching the false doctrine that has already destroyed the eternal life possibility for many who have passed. Why do you want any part of that???!!!

Did you even read what Barney said after stating he did not like the false teaching of cheap grace? He even got after me for being too harsh with you, so was your friend. You treated him very poorly, indeed. Here:
