Has anyone else noticed that threads which discuss our salvation become so focused on sin?

Why is that?

Salvation is through faith in Christ.

Why aren't we talking more about that?

Not once does Scripture teach for Earthly MEN to BELIEVE IN Earthly MEN.

Not once does Scripture teach Gods "FORGIVENESS FOR having HAD DISBELIEF IN God" requires Repeating.

Sin is the question to the answer.

Christian salvation is not only deliverance from the penalty of sin; it is deliverance from the inevitability of sin. The salvation that Christ brings is deliverance from the evil that is present in each individual who follows him. The man or woman who follows him confesses himself or herself to be a sinner, while at the same time, mourning to be set free from sin, confident that whatever he prays according to God's will, God will give him or her whatever they ask.

Preaching against sin can make people look into themselves instead of to Jesus.

The better preaching would be to teach people how to deal with temptation and sinful thoughts and that God loves them even if they are weak and fall into temptation. Even though we are saved/born again and washed clean we all need our feet washed from time to time.

Mankind already Naturally knows Right from Wrong, Truth from Lie.

Mankind already Naturally knows their own FEELINGS of "Lying, Cheating, Deceiving"...
Getting Away with it...FEELING BAD about that, or FEELING HAPPY about that.

Trying to TEACH men through the UMPTEEN... never ending Philosophical Techniques and uploading of Chemical Compounds into a person, (and now Bio without disclosure techniques)..
IS YET ANOTHER deceptive design to focus MEN on MEN to BELIEVE IN MEN, to RELY on MEN for "ALL" a MAN needs.

See what IS MISSING ?

And FOR those People WHO "rely" on the Lord God?

Never ending Preaching God is Doing Nothing ... your house burned, your child died, you have a disease, your legs were blown off in war, your crops failed, you lost your job, ...

Our Saviour saves us from the consequence of sin which is death that separates us from God for all eternity.

However, it should be clear that the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write the words that are also profound, that the law is a schoolmaster to lead men to Christ (Galatians 3:24). That it shows us that we are sinners in need of a Saviour (Romans 3:20). That it has the power to convert us (Psalms 19:7 (kjv)).

So, I wouldn't completely downplay the reality of the benefits of thinking on biblical issues such as sin. The Bible speaks of them for a reason; and when we come across these concepts in our reading of holy scripture, we are not to discount them, saying, "But I need to focus on Christ." Jesus said, "In the volume of the book it is written of me." (Hebrews 10:7). So, whatever topic we may be reading about in when we study the scriptures, Christ is the primary topic.



It may seem that way until you get it. When it finally clicks, it brings real victory.

So, I would say to you, don't give up on understanding the concepts.

What I wrote does not negate the necessity to understand and know what is written in Scripture on any aspect of our faith. However @marks asks why the concentration on 'sin, sin, sin', when Salvation is through faith in Christ. Why, he asks, why are we not talking more about that?

I am amazed that people believe this foolishness.

The practice of sacrificing animals is explained in “Hebrews” as a thing that cannot take away sins or make man perfect as it pertains to his conscience (Hebrews 9:9). It is not referred to as willfully sinning. That is a false teaching that gets repeated so often by so many that unless one is guarding themself by constant and frequent Bible reading and spiritual discipline will be seduced to this flesh pleasing alluring doctrine. This has been invented by crafty men who use fair speeches and good words to deceive the simple (Romans 16:18). You are in error to attribute the willful sin in Hebrews 10:26 to refer only to returning to the Old Testament sacrificial system.

Given the means of proper nourishment and pure air, physical stature must increase unconsciously and without an effort. In fact it cannot be held back! (I have evidence of this when I see my youngest grandson (12yrs) towering over me, and still growing! ) By simply breathing in and out, and eating and drinking, the body grows and flourishes. So it is with spiritual growth and stature, isn't it?

Christ is our life, and the work of the Holy Spirit is to take of the things of Christ and minister them to us. We feed upon Christ as in eating and drinking (John 6:48-63), and our spiritual stature is added to without 'taking thought'.

As to sin, we are to:-

'Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,
but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body,
that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin:
but yield yourselves unto God,
as those that are alive from the dead,
and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
For sin shall not have dominion over you:
for ye are not under the law, but under grace.'
(Romans 6:11-14)

Your problem is that you don’t understand that LOVE for GOD is the Engine that drives Obedience.....if you don’t REST in the Gospel Of Pure Grace, which gives one Joy and Peace Of Mind ....you will NEVER have that Love for God that is the Basis for EVERYTHING in the World Of Christianity....

Yes, it is indeed the love of God that drives obedience. In Romans 5:5 we are told that the love of the Lord is shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Ghost; and in Romans 13:8-10 and in Galatians 5:14 we are told that love is the fulfilling of the law. That every commandment is fulfilled in the saying, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself". And, in 1 John 5:3 and in 2 John 1:6, we find that this is love...the keeping of God's commandments.

In Luke 7:36-50 we find that the one who is forgiven much loves much.

So, @Blood Bought 1953, you are very likely correct in saying that we repent as the result of having received the grace of God and not the other way around.

Yes, for it is written in Hebrews 10:12 that Jesus sat down on the right hand of the throne of God after He offered one sacrifice for sins for ever.

Yes, it would appear that the "no more sacrifice for sin" in Hebrews 10:26 may be referring back to Hebrews 10:4-6; but might it also not be referring back to Hebrews 10:12?

In which case there is no more sacrifice of Jesus that will avail for you if you willfully sin against the Lord after having come to "the knowledge of the truth".

I'm not necessarily saying that it definitely refers back to Hebrews 10:12; but I am saying that it is a possibility that that is what it is referring to in Hebrews 10:26-31.

You have spoken of the fact that you are unaware of sins that you commit and that this state of consciousness means that you actually sin less.

So, might not those sins that you are unaware of classify as the opposite of "willful sin" so that there is such a thing as sin that is not willful?

Maybe you have something there. Everyone knows the battle against sin. It's won by intimacy with God, which is enjoyed as we understand the forgiveness of sins.

So do we really get how reconciled to God we are? Maybe that's it. There's doubt about our reconciliation. Even while we were His outright enemies He restored us to His friendship. So now that we've received the reconciliation, what is there to question? We are reconciled to God.

well that's a good point we know that we are not worthy, but He is and if He is with you, then that is the worthiness. if the Lord tells you to live well and rejoice, your not worthy of that, but His Word is worthy to be fulfilled therefore only thanking the Lord is required acknowledging the fulfillment thereof shall come to pass.

the Father sees those who receive the Life of Christ through His Beloved Son. the rules are the same. those seen through Adam are condemned because they have Adam's life. those seen through Noah can find grace because they are seen through Noah and the life Noah had, those seen through Abraham Isaac and Jacob are by faith because they are seen through the life of Abraham the man of the faith. those born again in Christ Jesus are seen through Jesus Christ the Son of God. which is what all those before Christ who God had a relationship with were trusting God for, is to receive that same Life of Christ in the resurrection.
