Easter ? What are we celebrating?

All of a sudden I am just wondering what is Easter and what are we celebrating ?

Man's word or is it what in the bible ....... GOD's word !

I don't celebrate Easter as I am not into pagan rituals.

But according to Scripture, "the Lord's Day" is meant to be a weekly celebration of the resurrection, and at the same time a weekly Remembrance Feast of the crucifixion.

I always thought that every day is a celebration of his resurrection.

That is one aspect of the power of the resurrection, in that every genuine believer can walk in newness of life everyday. In that sense it is a celebration.

But there is no question that the general celebration of Easter worldwide gives the whole unbelieving world an opportunity to remember the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive Him as Lord and Savior. Provided the TRUE Gospel is preached and broadcast on that day.

What is a weekly remembrance feast?

As Paul said: For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. (1 Cor 11:26)

So that is a weekly reminder of the Lord's sacrifice -- that His body was broken and His blood was shed for the remission of sins.

Doesn't it change every year..... full moon equinox the first of Spring..the resurrection of the Sun god?

I'll go with the easter bunnies , which also represent fertility, spring..etc.

He doesn't rise again every Easter!!

It is now popular for Christians to attend the early morning sunrise service ...
not even realizing they are standing there worshipping the rising of the sun god!! How dumb and foolish can we be...

...and we wonder how the elect could be fooled by signs and wonders...most are fooled without the signs and wonders!!!

Sorry to be so abrupt, Helen - but you've been sold a truckload of rubbish . . .

The changing day of Easter has NOTHING to do with "Sun gods" or "paganism".
Christ's Passion, Death and Resurrection took place around the time of the Passover - which is based on the first Full Moon after the Vernal Equinox. - THAT is why the date changes - and NO OTHER reason.

As Christians, yes, we celebrate Christ's Resurrection EVERY Sunday (The Lord's Day) - and EVERY day. This day is simply set aside as an annual Solemnity - a Feast Day commemorating his victory over death.
Don't "passover" Easter just because you've been given some bad information. Christ is Risen - and we SHOULD celebrate . . .

This reminds me of all of those "anti-vaxers" who refuse to vaccinate their children from CURABLE diseases because some idiot doctor with an agenda went around telling people that it caused Autism. Even AFTER he later recanted his claims - they STILL believe the lie . . .

I've also been doing a lot of research on Easter and its origins. Apparently 80% of Americans will be celebrating Easter and it's not in the Bible. Why does everyone keep celebrating?

Interesting thread; in some Bibles the word Easter is rendered Passover. Luke 22 gives a wonderful view of how the last passover - looking forward to the finished sacrifice of the Lord Jesus at the Cross - developed into something new, as instituted by Him: the Lord's Supper, which looks back to the Cross and forward to His coming (1 Corinthians 11.26).

Why do I keep celebrating Easter? Mind you, I do not celebrate the aspects of it concerning chocolate bunnies and easter eggs. I celebrate the resurrection of my Lord and Saviour on that day.

The devil wants to destroy Easter; for it represents the resurrection, the very thing that permanently defeated him. We have victory because of the resurrection! The celebration of Resurrection Day is not going down without a fight.

Easter is a Catholic invention. An adaption of Ishtar worship.

It did not exist at the time of the apostles nor did the Catholic Church.

I am nondenominational so to me recognition of the birth, Life, death and resurrection of Jesus every day reality.

I beg to differ...for Easter is one holy day that is mentioned.

Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead...I do not find it improbable that the disciples would have been celebrating it by the time it was mentioned in the book of Acts.
