Three days and three nights in the heart of the earth

Matthew 12:
40. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Friends, Jesus prophesied to the leaders of Israel, for they and the Apostles are witnesses to this.

Since as Jesus said it, therefore the prediction must come to pass in fulfillment exactly.

Basically even in ancient Israel there was 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night.

Whether the hours of the day is longer than the night nor the night from the day, still considered as the 12th hour to the 24th hour.

Israel's new day starts at night and finishes at sunset the next day, making it night and day 24 hours = 1 day.

The point is, the burial day on Friday and the resurrection day on Sunday at dawn, doesn't add up.

For example,

Burial by Jews was done before sunset, since they needed time for the preparation, even ceremonial washing before Passover.

Let's say 5pm Thursday before sunset they buried Him, and Friday after sunset 6pm night was the Passover.

Thursday 5pm - Friday 5pm = first day
Friday 5pm - Saturday 5pm = second day
Saturday 5pm - Sunday 5pm = third day

Now, how come on first day Sunday at dawn 7am onwards, the women found the tomb already empty?

Hebrew idiom when it comes to counting days is loose in comparison to how we do it a couple of thousand years later.
A full 24 hrs day or a part of a day are equally counted as a day. We can see that Jesus was crucified on the day before the Sabbath which of course was the 7th day and rose to life on the first day. In Hebrew thinking this would amount to three days.
If we try to apply our way of seeing ie, a day equalling 24 hrs, we end up formulating a time span which does not align with that of the Hebrews....and frankly, we make a mess.

The 40 day expression is similar in principle. For the Hebrews it meant a suitable length of time, ie it could mean 37 days or 42 days roughly speaking. It was a loose measurement a bit like we use the expression 'about a week' It could mean anything from 5 days or even 8 or nine days depending on the context it is used.

Understanding this releases us from getting our knickers in a knot and making a big deal about shape shifting passing clouds (so to speak)

Three days and three nights….as our stop watch clicks He was gone 39 hours….not 72. Friday Saturday and Sunday….days and nights not exactly right. You do not want to do the stop watch count on this because Christ went somewhere---where time does not click.

He went to Sheol to preach the Gospel to the Jews there and Hell to let the Devil know that there was a new Sheriff in town, the Lion of Judea.

The problem is you are looking at the passages with a 21st Century mindset instead of a first century Jewish mindset. Even to this day, Jews in conversation consider any part of a day to be a day. That is just the way they did it. So being buried on Friday is one day. Spending sundown Friday to sundown Saturday is 2 days. Rising after sunset Saturday is three days. Friday Saturday sunday- they called it three days and Jesus did as well.

However, saying "three days and three nights" is different.

Friday sundown to Saturday sunrise = 1 night.

Saturday sunrise to Saturday sundown = 1 day.

Saturday sundown to Sunday sunrise = 1 night.

So that doesn't work, it's only 1 day and 2 nights. The prophecy was 3 days and 3 nights.

Friday was a two for one. Jesus died for us on the Cross Friday. That was actually a day and night. It turned dark for 3 hrs, didn't it. Hebrews counted any part of the day anyways. Evening became Sat. night, Sat. evening became Sunday night. Then resurrection Sunday.

Do we really think that humans have the capacity to understand every aspect of the reality of God?
Most struggle to understand his character. They superimpose their limitations onto God and make him in their image. How is it possible then to comprehend the infinite in every direction?

The confusion would be in your mind, not mine.
The confusion is the result of a faulty paradigm that one chooses to impose onto God.

So, what am I talking about? The Jews killed their Messiah because their expectations of a Messiah were not met in Jesus. In other words, their conclusions were the result of a faulty paradigm.

My point was that God did not write the scriptures to confuse people.
And you are right, Yeshua did not fit what they were looking in the Messiah. They were looking for a human Messiah that would be a Warlord King that would take out their enemies.
