Metaphor: One thing conceived as representing another, a symbol

Matthew 21:28-32,
- But what think ye, a certain man(God is metaphorically used as the father of the two sons) had two sons and he came to the first and said, son go work to day in my vineyard (physical vineyard is a metaphor for Gods kingdom)
he answered and said, I will not, but afterward he repented(changed his mind) and went

and he came to the second and said likewise and he answered and said...

I go Sir and went not. (first he said he would go but changed his mind, and did not go)

- Which of the two did the will of his father?

- they say unto Jesus the first son, Jesus saith unto them,
Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you
for John came unto you in the way of righteousness and ye believed him not but the publicans and the harlots believed him and ye when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him

Lessons we can learn from Jesus teaching on Biblical repentance:

Both sons changed their minds but only one Biblically repented.

Therefore according to Jesus repentance requires a change of ones actions in this case the first son sinned by disobeying his father but in his repentant heart turned from his disobedience and obeyed by working his fathers commandment.

The second said he would go but changed his mind and did no works befitting of true repentance.

Acts 26:20,
- but shewed first unto them of Damacus and at Jerusalem and throughout all the coasts of Judea,
and then to the gentiles that they should repent and turn to God and do works meet for repentance

So the lesson learn about repentance is according to Jesus if you do not stop the sin and work fruits of repentance then your repentance is not doing the will of God.

Matthew 21:31,
- which of the two did what the father wanted?
The first they answered

Right answer!!!

"Could the son who first told his father he would not work in his fathers vineyard but later repented and went....
Could this son have repented if he did not go and work in his fathers vineyard?"

Yes. Most definitely. 100%
Matthew 22:29,
- Jesus answered and said to them,
Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God

Your conclusion is wrong, like that of the ones rebuked by Christ.

Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

The son who obeyed the Father, was the second who answered immediately he would go. The first son said he would not go. It is how we respond straight away to the Father that counts. This instant obedience is found in those who truly worship Him. They do not consider themselves

The second son could have been stopped by anything. He intended to go. We do not know what prevented him but his heart was in the right place. Something interfered with his intention and was most likely valid.

The first son however, said no. He later changed his mind possibly due to fear of the consequences. We do not know the reason but his first impulse was to say no to his father.

This great parable catches those out who do not have spiritual understanding.

So the first that went and worked in his fathers vineyard as he was commanded did not repent.
The second who did not obey his father but rather chose to not obey his fathers commandment did repent.

Sir, are you serious?

The son who obeyed the Father, was the second who answered immediately he would go.
The one who did not go and work in the vineyard as his father commanded obeyed his father is your belief.

Are you serious Sir?

But the first who repented by obeying and going to work in his fathers vineyard did not obey.

Are you serious Sir?
The second who did not obey his father but rather chose to not obey his fathers commandment did repent.

Hyper grace detest calvinism, at least the ones I'm familiar with.
Are you serious ?
The second son that said he would obey his fathers commandment to go work but chose to not obey his fathers commandment is the son who Biblically repented?
Really?

Why did Jesus rebuke the same answer you gave?
Because they were in the same boat as the second son.
They also did not obey Gods commandments.
They gave the correct answer and Jesus was showing them they knew they were gulity condemning themselves.

Jesus got them to condemn themselves by giving the correct answer.

Scripture says he changed his mind. Nothing about Biblical repented.

28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”

They said to Him, “The first.”

Before you tell others they are wrong.
You need to first learn the Bible verses that are under discussion.
You don't think Jesus is teaching on repentance in Matthew 21?

Are you serious?

What is repentance by your reasoning.

They gave the wrong answer which Jesus rebuked.
Where did you learn this interpretation from?
Please link a church that teaches what you teach on this parable?

So the second son was the one who did the will of the father?
Are you serious?
The second son disobeyed his father.
The first obeyed his father.

What was Jesus' question?
Matthew 21:31,
- Which of them did the will of the father

It was intention that showed the obedience.

He is teaching about obedience.

It is my understanding.

It was intention that showed the obedience.
Good, it teaches us repentance includes obedience.
Did both sons change their minds?

Yes but scripture does not say the reason.

Obedience is not having second thoughts and regretting it. That is not obedience. However, something cropping up to stop our obedience does not take away the intention. He could have been run over and put in hospital. It does not say.

I made a mistake because of what you added.

The second son is just said to have not gone, that's all, nothing about him changing his mind.

Obedience is not having second thoughts and regretting it
I agree, that can be worldly sorrow.

Biblical obedience is when the first son went and worked by obeying his fathers commandments.
By his actions we know the first son had godly sorrow.
