I don't have a sci-fi scenario.
I have descriptions given of the abomination that causes desolation in scripture.
This is Johns description of the events.
Revelation 6
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
What John describes above is the great tribulation (rev 7:14)after the 6th seal is opened. The same great tribulation in Mathew 24:21 when the abomination of desolation. Is set up by the armed forces.
A statue does not cause a severe earthquake and the heavens to depart as a scroll being rolled together.A statue does nothing.
This is not describing great tribulation. The 6 Trumpets describe great tribulation.
The 6th Seal is the baptism of fire at the Second Coming. It has nothing to do with sci-fi nuclear weapons.
The stars coming to earth are the angels coming to earth per Matthew 13 and Matthew 25.
The angels came at the birth of Jesus and sang to the shepherds. Was that only symbolic of a nuclear tribulation at the birth of Jesus?
John equated the angels coming to earth with fig leaves falling on a windy day. How is that being destructive?
John the Baptist put it this way:
"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
Now, many were expecting the kingdom to be set up at the first coming, but that baptism of fire was not a reality on earth at that point in time. The baptism of the Holy Spirit would be ongoing, and it has been for almost 2000 years.
The baptism of fire is the birth of the LOF. This LOF is more descriptive of a literal sun in proximity to the earth, whereby humans will be literally tossed into the sun. This is more than a few weapons made by mankind. This will be a God created phenomenon.
Peter likened what God will do with the Flood, the last major judgement of God, upon the earth.
"For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men."
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up."
Humans did not produce the Flood in Noah's day. They will not produce the 6th Seal event. Only God will baptize the earth in fire, and that is the start of the LOF.
I would say that Satan has deceived people and they have taken the coming destruction by God, as not as serious as humanity destroying creation. Even the introduction of nuclear weapons was touted as the destroying of world's.
The wrath of God does include the placement of billions of humans into the LOF. That is way more problematic than physical suffering during great tribulation.
"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
