I've been seeing a lot of Uber Teen commercials the last couple of months. Is anyone else disturbed by the idea of parents allowing their teenage children to get into a vehicle with a complete stranger?? This is NUTS! I rate this right up there with sending children to knock on strangers' doors to ask for candy... IRRESPONSIBLE! I mean, parents are literally inviting predators to perpetrate on their children. Sigh....

Whenever teens or women get into a taxi they should take a photo of the driver and his licence number and send it to their parents or somebody. If the driver is honest he won't mind. If he objects then they shouldn't get in.

I agree, @Pearl. I realize that there are situations where this kind of service can be very helpful, as with single parent homes or when both parents have to work. But yes, taking a photo of the driver and sending to their parents is an excellent idea!

Half yes and half no. I suppose it's not too much different than a taxi.

I think Uber drivers have to do a background check and there should be a rating system for the drivers past experience. I might be wrong.

See, I wouldn't put my child in a taxi either. That's just me. I don't trust strangers with my children (or grandchildren). Idk what the process is for someone to be an Uber driver. But every perpetrator has a first offense ...or their first offense they get caught doing. I just think it's an open door inviting strangers to have that much access to children.

You're probably best buckling down where you stand.

Anything before 15-16, I'd say no. But I think the location matters, too. If it's in a small little nice town, I'd probably say maybe.

If it were any of the big cities like New York or Chicago, I'd say never ever ever ever ever ever.

Oftentimes, small towns are just as corrupt. My town has a population of under 700 people. Yet, my town is a cult-run town. The mayor is a tyrant who bullies residents who aren't part of the "clique" (cult). He and his waterboy rushed into my driveway one day threatening to shoot my Anatolian-Pyrenees dog because he (my dog) chased the neighbor's 2 pitbulls out of our yard. My dog was outside my yard ...but only because he broke his leash to chase the neighbor's two dogs out. Those pits attacked my dog ...yet my dog was threatened. (This was my son Matthew's dog...my son who passed away. It has been a struggle and a stress.) I have a bullet hole in the back of my house because the retired police officer (who lives on the property bordering the back of of mine) took aim at me. He was protected by the mayor and local police and it was kept secret from the (non-cult) police chief. When the police chief found out and tried to do something about it, he nearly lost his job. Every time this police chief attempted to do something against the corruption, he was thwarted by the mayor ...and the County Judge. He eventually quit his job for this very reason.

After he quit, I did a search on his name and found something quite revealing. About 5 years before I moved here (against my best judgment, but chosen by my husband) ....the former chief of police pulled over a car because the tags came back as stolen. Inside were 2 men, and in the car was found child porn, and paraphernalia pointing to child sex trafficking. His efforts to bring these men into custody was thwarted by the mayor ....the same mayor we have now. (He keeps being "re-elected.")

Also take into account that the retired police officer who shot at me is buddies with the mayor, the "water boy", and the County Judge ....the same judge who illegally placed my granddaughter into the home of a cult family. I say illegal, because it was proven that the other family lied under oath, and it was proven that my daughter (mother of the child) was fit, and had not abandoned her child. We had eye witnesses, call logs, text logs, photos, and much other proof in my daughter's favor. And the judge gave my granddaughter to that family and we haven't seen her since. :( It was 8 years ago.

All of this to say .... just because it is a small town doesn't make it safe. I've seen cult activity and corruption in every town I've moved to, across at least 9 states.

My own daughter was kidnapped and she was 17 years old. Just beware.

That's crazy. I don't really know what to say except I'm sorry that you went through that. :(

This wasn't because I put her into a car with a stranger. This was because, as a 17 year old, she trusted the wrong people ...as much as I tried to protect her. Sigh ... but this is just to say, age isn't necessarily a protection.

Obviously, my situation and circumstances are pretty complicated and that makes my children and grandchildren a target. But I also see a lot that goes on and the corruption is very extensive.

Since nobody rides the bus to work anymore... restaurants no longer have bus boys.

Instead, they now have uber boys funny.gif
