The Bible is not “Gods Word.” It's simply "The Bible."

The title of your thread was "The Bible is Not God's Word." I am saying to you that the Bible is God's word but not in a constant stream or conversation. It's pockets of who he is, his character, his personality, and his personal walk with mankind from Genesis to revelation. The Bible is God's word. The Bible is a representation of God's personage, just as Jesus and the Holy Spirit are representations of God.
Hello @Angelina,

Angelina, why is the bible called the bible and not "Gods Word, or Word of God?" It's called a Bible because that is what it is... a bible. I never purchased a GODS WORD publishing, or anything like that... Can I ask you a question? Why don't you also emphasize how Jesus Christ was the Word of God made flesh? This is not saying you don't believe in him or anything like I am simply just curious.

He is sharp, and he is still active the hearts and minds of believers by the Spirit of Christ within them, given by the Father in heaven.

The Bible is called the Bible because the word "Bible" comes from the Greek phrase ta biblia, which means "the books":
  • Origin of the word
The Greek word biblion literally means "scroll" and came to be used as the ordinary word for "book". Byblos is a Greek word that means "Egyptian papyrus" and may come from the name of the Phoenician seaport Byblos, which exported Egyptian papyrus to Greece.
  • Use of the phrase
The phrase ta biblia was used by Hellenistic Jews to describe their sacred books. John Chrysostom was the first writer to use the phrase to describe both the Old and New Testaments together.
  • Latin translation
The Latin translation of ta biblia is biblia sacra, which means "holy books". Medieval Latin biblia is short for biblia sacra.

Are you saying that because it is not clearly defined as "God's Word," it cannot be his word?

Hello @Angelina,

I just shared what the Webster's dictionary states. I have not made any remarks, discrediting or saying that the bible is meaningless, or useless. In fact it is a spiritual road map for the seeker who seeks. It's one of the greatest materials that God has given to us, to have and see and view. The bible is vital and useful, concerning not only material things, but also spiritual things.

I personally own a Webster's Dictionary Collegiate edition.

If people are saying that I am making remarks that the bible is useless, or meaningless, or doesn't have any value they are wrong in what I have presented.

The Bible is simply the bible. People use the Bible and perform good and bad, in statements that are just remarks of tradition. I believe and find the bible of high value, and it has a history between God and man, and there is God and his dealing with Israel, and there is God in his sending of his Word. The Bible is highly spiritual value and helps build up faith; as long as it is done so rightly, with conjoining with the Holy Spirit which is given by God/Yahavah, in and through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God that became born of flesh and of spirit. Who died, was buried, and raised again on the third day by the holy spirit of Yahavah.

Incorrect--

The claim that "the Spirit overrides the Bible, though the Bible is helpful for information" misrepresents the relationship between the Holy Spirit and Scripture as described in the Bible itself.

The Scriptures and the Spirit work in perfect harmony; the Spirit does not supersede the Word of God but illuminates and applies it to the believer's life.

1. Scripture and Spirit are Inseparable:

John 16:13: "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak from himself, but whatever he hears, he will speak, and he will proclaim to you the things to come."

The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth, and His role is to guide believers into the truth found in God's Word, not to contradict or override it. The Spirit’s work is consistent with what has already been revealed in Scripture.

2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the person of God may be capable, fully equipped for every good work."
The Bible is described as divinely inspired, sufficient for teaching and equipping believers. The Spirit’s role complements this by helping believers understand and apply Scripture.

2. The Spirit Affirms, Not Overrides, Scripture:

1 Corinthians 2:12-13: "Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, in order that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people."

This demonstrates that the Spirit works through the Word to reveal God's truths to us.

Psalm 119:130: "The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple."

The Spirit "unfolds" Scripture, giving us understanding, but does not replace or contradict it.

3. Warnings Against Elevating Subjective "Spiritual" Experiences:

1 John 4:1: "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."

Believers are instructed to test all spirits. How? By comparing their claims to the revealed Word of God. The Spirit will never lead someone contrary to Scripture.

Galatians 1:8: "But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we have proclaimed to you, let him be accursed."

No revelation-whether claimed to be spiritual or otherwise-supersedes the authority of the gospel as contained in Scripture.

4. Jesus' Example of Using Scripture:

In Matthew 4:4, 7, 10, Jesus resists Satan's temptations by quoting Scripture, saying, "It is written." Even as the Son of God, He does not rely solely on His authority or direct revelation but demonstrates the importance of Scripture as the foundation for discerning truth.

Conclusion:
The idea that the Spirit overrides Scripture undermines the unity of God’s revelation.

The Holy Spirit inspired the Bible (2 Peter 1:21) and uses it to teach, correct, and equip believers. While the Spirit works dynamically in believers' lives, He does so by illuminating Scripture-not by bypassing or contradicting it.

To pit the Spirit against the Bible is to misunderstand their complementary roles in revealing and applying God’s truth.

But you have me on ignore and that's good-no need to waste my time here.

Hello @JohnDB,

Jesus is the Word of God, made flesh. Not the Bible. The spirit overrides the Bible though the Bible is helpful in us knowing information.
rather odd though is that many who cliam to HEAR and to HEED the SPIRIT sure do seem
to overide CERTAIN TRUTHS in said bible . MEN love to pick and choose and thus they have to
somehow pit the SPIRIT against the WORDS in that bible THAT THE SPIRIT DID INSPIRE .
but no marvel , many who also claim to heed the SPIRIT , but clearly dont ,
ALSO seem to overide things JESUS said . YET JESUS said THE SPIRIT WOULD BRING TO REMEMBRANCE
ALL THINGS i have told you , NOT OMIT THINGS and try and put together an image of jesus to serve our own pleasures .

Absolutely correct and you know when "another gospel" is promulgated-right @amigo de christo?

John 3:19-20
"And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed."

This passage highlights that people avoid the truth of Scripture because it exposes their sinful behavior. The light of God's Word challenges the darkness of their lives, leading them to resist it.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
"For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths."
This verse explains that people avoid the Scriptures because they seek teaching that aligns with their desires and reject the truth that convicts and challenges their lives.

Romans 1:18
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth."
This verse points to the human tendency to suppress the truth of God's Word, often because it condemns their actions. People reject Scripture because it convicts them of sin and reveals God's judgment.

Matthew 13:15
"For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them."
Jesus describes how people avoid understanding the Scriptures because their hearts have become hardened. Their spiritual dullness prevents them from receiving the truth of God’s Word.

Luke 11:52
"Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering."
Here, Jesus rebukes the religious leaders for hiding the truth of Scripture. People avoid the Scriptures when they are misled or hindered by those who twist or obscure the truth.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4
"And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case, the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."

This passage reveals that people avoid the truth of Scripture because the "god of this world" (Satan) blinds their minds. Spiritual blindness prevents them from recognizing the power and truth of the gospel.

Some impediments are standing in the way.

Are you saying that because it is not clearly defined as "God's Word," it cannot be his word?

I love this example of the words of the LORD being written by a scribe at the mouth of Jeremiah the prophet and of those that heard out of this scroll and what they did here (and how they were not afraid)

Jerm 36:11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,

Jerm 36:13 Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

Jerm 36:15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

Jerm 36:17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

Jerm 36:18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

Jehudi read it also in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.

Jerm 36:22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

Jerm 36:25 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

Jerm 36:24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

God spake by the prophets, so after this

Jerm 36:27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

Jerm 36:28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

Jerm 36:32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

Jerm 37:2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds

And the Son of God said

John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

For God has spoken to us by His Son as God did by the former prophets

John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Hello @Verily,

It's amazing that we have the Bible. It's not what people should worship though. Jesus spoke of how people should worship the Father in spirit and in truth. I thank you for your contributions as well as the other fellow members here on the website corresponding to one another. There is just a part of me that believes sometimes people take things way too far, and that is all this thread is about. There is also perhaps its my schizophrenia people who talk about other people behind the scenes rather than in open communication, and sometimes that can be seen as criminal to me, but people can say and talk about whatever they want and how they want to when it comes to the internet.

May all the fellowship be with the Father and the Son, and may they get the glory! Worshiping the Father in spirit and in truth, not looking to ourselves but to him!

Just a book they say, ha! One of our most vital pieces of equipment, the Holy Bible...
God has worked amazing miracles in me through the reading of His Word. He answers my questions, gives me understanding, through the Spirit by using ink on paper.

Much love!

So many people believe today that the Bible is considered either “Gods words or The Word of God.”

It’s not true… it’s a collective of God and his people their doings and happenings. It’s simply “The Bible.” Nothing more. If you disagree with an interpretation all of sudden you’re going against “Gods words or the word of God.” When all you are doing is disagreeing with an interpretation.

Why is that? Taught Tradition?

What you take out of it and use of it is at your discretion.

Has God limited Himself in the spread of His knowledge? The only limit God put on Himself was by allowing you and me to choose to travel our own way instead of His Way. This is what men call free will. It allows ultimately only two choices that matter: God's Way or Not.

The discernment and/or understanding of the differences between them comes from outside the Book, the Bible, via the Holy Spirit.

We can choose God's Way which requires us to lean on Him and hear what He saying. The Holy Spirit is to provide Life to what we have consumed [read in or heard from the Book/Bible]. There is potential in the Book/Bible because it was written by men as they were inspired by God.

The potential only comes to Life in people who allow themselves to be led. This leading occurs as a result of the same inspiration in you or me from the same source [God]. The source is not the Book/Bible. The source is God.

People have wrong messages or mixed messages even based on what is written in their printed Bibles because they quench the Holy Spirit within [if the Spirit is within them] and follow themselves or other men.

"[God] Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." 2 Corinthians 3:6

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Romans 8:14
