How blasphemous!Christians prefer to demonize them. (sigh)
The Holy Spirit gets an honorable mention now and then.
While they continue to hold him at arms-length.
I'm torn between the impulse to laugh out loud and the desire to praise God for the gift of healing. Maybe both. At the same time. "The laughter of the redeemed".I was in a healing meeting some years ago when someone asked for prayer for a man in another city that had an inactive bladder. (???)
I cell phone call to a relative let them know that we were praying for him.
The relative called the man with the bladder issue to let him know that we were praying for him.
When they picked up the call, they were mopping up the mess. His bladder had miraculously started working.

Tongues is the "gift" that draws the most polarized response. But all this squabbling over one particular gift seems so unseemly.
Some attempt to make the Body of Christ an amputee by removing body parts. Sick!God established the Gifts for the Bride of Christ for Her DURATION until She is "Face to Face" with Her Husband, the LORD Jesus Christ.
Interesting that those who say that gifts are not for today claim the exact opposite.
Why do you think that is?Tongues is the "gift" that draws the most polarized response.
That's a fantastic question, thanks! Why do you think that is?

i just purchased a Diamond Deploy SB Bow to shoot with my two sons AND i purchased a starter bow/Blackout Faze for my wife.Reject tongus as a viable tool in ones equipment is like saying, I don't want an AR15 but I trust my recurve Bow. AR15's are bunk and complicated! My Bow & Arrow is simple! Yeah! Who needs an AR15 anyway?!
Idiots! Believing is seeing. You either try in your actions or you dont. That dont mean fake tongues, though I have seen that and you can tell, because it is used unscripturally.
Yes. SS. Hidden in your OP is a very serious question....LOL
Since speaking in tongues is neither a salvation issue nor an obedience issue,
many just shrug it off as if it is of no benefit to them. That is what I am trying to address here.
The list of questions leads to the last one. (no need to answer them all, or any...)
- You don't have to speak in tongues. - Or do you?
Do you understand the different uses (kinds) of tongues and the benefits?
[
You made me laugh QT....Why you don't have to speak in tongues - Or do you?
My tongue speaks at every opportunity....and that in a non native language, but who can understand it? I certainly do. Even here at this forum, many have no idea what I'm saying; they might even think I'm blaspheming.....because their native language is preferable to them.
....and what is my/ their native language? is it not the language of self justification, of survival of the fittest and relegating those who poke in the eye to hell.
.....so, what is the language my tongue speaks when opportunity arises? It is the good news for the broken hearted and hope for the despairing. It is the message of the wonderful works of God. Acts 2:11
.....further; listen to Peter's explanation of what and how this fits together....Acts 2:22-36
It is too often assumed that speaking in tongues is about making physical sounds in an unlearned/ foreign language......and this may well be in certain circumstances, however what is missed is what was/ is spoken of/ about.
How many manifestations of the modern phenomena of 'speaking in tongues' shares the message of the resurrected Jesus, of hope for the hopeless and comfort for the downtrodden of sin?
From my experience in circles that practice 'speaking in tongues', gobbledygook and self engrandisment has been the order of the day.
If you think tongues is JUST a "gift", then you do NOT understand the different uses (kinds) of tongues and the benefits.Tongues is just a gift....one of the many.
I don't mean JUST a gift....I mean ONLY one of the gifts.
I think they're all important.

Maybe I do.then you do NOT understand the different uses (kinds) of tongues and the benefits.
The "gift" of tongues is #3 in the list below. The other four are not gifts. (available to all believers, #5 is a rare occurrence)
From the OP:
Five Uses of Tongues
1) Personal prayer language (speaking to God) See Acts 1:5, 1 Corinthians 14:2 and Acts 19:6
2) Intercessory prayer language (prayer in the Spirit) See Romans 8:26
3) Congregational message (preferably with interpretation) 1 Corinthians 14
4) Worship language (singing in tongues) See 1 Corinthians 14:15
5) Evangelistic language (language of the hearers) Like the outpouring at Pentecost. See Acts 2
Personal prayer language (speaking to God) See Acts 1:5, 1 Corinthians 14:2 and Acts 19:6
Typically recognized as the initial evidence of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit.
A personal prayer language is a precious ability to speak with God whenever you want.
Not that you need tongues to speak to God, but tongues takes it to a new level.
And tongues is the entrance to many other gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Those in the church in Corinth were tongues-speakers.
They were ready to understand and receive all the gifts.
Intercessory prayer language (prayer in the Spirit) See Romans 8:26
Similarly, the ability to speak in tongues is useful in praying for others.
Allow the Spirit to speak and pray the perfect prayer for the situation.
Congregational message (preferably with interpretation) 1 Corinthians 14
This is considered to be the GIFT of tongues. The Holy Spirit delivering a message to the church.
The interpretation of tongues is required to make the message understandable. (edifying)
Worship language (singing in tongues) See 1 Corinthians 14:15
During a worship service, tongues is useful to enter in at a deeper level.
Evangelistic language (language of the hearers) Like the outpouring at Pentecost. See Acts 2
A rare occurrence, but points back to the original outpouring at Pentecost.

Why do you say the other four listed are not gifts ? Is not the Holy Spirit empowering the Christian ?If you think tongues is JUST a "gift", then you do NOT understand the different uses (kinds) of tongues and the benefits.

It will be fun to watch my wife shoot and i am hoping that she accepts the challenge.
Have not purchased a new bow nor hunted in 30 years.

That's a good question, thanks. Why do you say the other four listed are not gifts ? Is not the Holy Spirit empowering the Christian ?
I would say all of the Five you list are the Gift of Tongues not just #3 . If the Holy Spirit gives the utterance it is the Gift of Tongues .
Acts 2:4
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Really?I said it is NOT JUST a gift.
LOLTongues is just a gift....one of the many.
