[1Co 14:34 KJV] 34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but [they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

Women are not prohibited from talking in church. Women are restricted from teaching in the public setting of the local church.

The prohibition of women speaking in the church was not just under the law but was dictated by Paul and the revelations of Christ as well. Women and Men are assigned specific functions in the church by God.

[1Co 14:27-28 KJV] 27 If any man speak in an [unknown] tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most [by] three, and [that] by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

Speaking in tongues was speaking in a foreign language.

Note in verse 27 that it is designated for men to speak in an unknown tongue and not women.

Not only are women to keep silence in the church, but in verse 28 men are to keep silence as well if there is no interpreter.

[1Co 14:35 KJV] 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Women were not to ask questions in public. They were to respect the headship of the husband and ask him at home.

Another way to look at the verse above can be seen below.

[1Co 14:29-31 KJV] 29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 30 If [any thing] be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. 31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

Women could receive a revelation by the men speaking but could not contribute that in the church. They could then ask their husbands to share what she learned.

[1Ti 2:12 KJV] 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Women are not to usurp authority over men in the church. Women teaching in the church assembly would undermine the position men heold in the church.

[Tit 2:3-5 KJV] 3 The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 [To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Women are given duties and functions that only they can perform. Women could not teach over the men in the public local church but were given other ministries. They could teach children and young women. They could be teachers of good things.

Do you believe 1 Corinthians 14:2 is true in all instances? "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries."

How did the 3,000 Jews understand the tongues spoken on the Day of Pentecost?

If one is speaking in tongues and there is no interpreter, then some would not understand what is being said

[1Co 14:5 KJV] 5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater [is] he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

So the 3,000 had the gift of interpretation of tongues to understand what was being said?

Look more closely at that scripture. "every man heard THEM speak in his own language. What each heard was like a choir praising God in his own language. That is supernatural, thus a gift of the Spirit.

If what you determined was true, then 1 Cor. 14:2 is not true scripture.

Hi …
It’s amazing that these disciples started to speak without any thought or preparation. The reason for this is that it was the "WIND," the Holy Spirit, speaking through them.
Acts 2:1-4 (NKJV) 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and [one] sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

In Mark 13:11 (the Olivet Prophecy), we see a similar occurrence:
Mark 13:9-11 (NKJV) 9 “But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. 10 “And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. 11 “But when they arrest [you] and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

Yes, worry is a sin. I know God was guiding me to buy this house, and when we have a tornado warning, I just go to bed.

1Cor 14:34 . . Let the women keep silent in the churches; for they are not
permitted to speak, but let them subject themselves, just as the Law also
says.

It could be argued, with some merit, that this rule applies only to tongues
and prophecy; but Paul expanded its scope in a letter to his friend Timothy.

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman
to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam
was first formed, then Eve." (1Tim 2:11-13)

It's important to note that this is neither a gender issue, nor a competence
issue, an intelligence, nor a maturity issue when it's so obviously a
primogeniture issue. For that reason it's an act of contempt for one's betters
when Christian women step up to govern Christian men in a Christian
congregation.

FAQ: What about women like Anne Graham Lotz and/or Tara-Leigh Cobble?
Aren't they out of order?

REPLY: The instructions are limited to congregational meetings. They don't
include public venue's, e.g. forums, town squares, street corners, coliseums,
stadiums, convention centers, radio, television, or social media like YouTube
and Facebook.

FAQ: What about Deborah in the old testament book of Judges? Exactly how
was she an exception to the rule, if indeed she was?

REPLY: Things are quite a bit different now with Christ at the helm, i.e.
Christ's association with his church trumps Deborah's association with the
Jews. I do not recommend using her, or any other woman in the Bible, as an
excuse to circumvent Christ's instructions in matters pertaining to the
management of Christian congregations.

NOTE: Debbie was neither a priest nor a member of the Sanhedrin; her
involvement in the Jews' affairs was limited to her position as a judge, viz:
the Temple's sacred business was none of her business; that was strictly a
man's world.

* Paul appealed to "the law" as the basis for 1Cor 14:34. Normally when
Paul speaks of the law he's referring to the covenant that Moses' people
agreed upon with God as per Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

Exactly where in the covenant that women are forbidden to speak in an
assembly I don't know. However, it's quite obvious that the covenant is very
sexist, i.e. women were not installed in either the priesthood or the
Sanhedrin.

Moses' law doesn't always specifically address certain things. Sometimes the
law's rules and procedures imply principles that we might call "the spirit of
the law". For example Jesus' critics were educated experts in the black and
white letter of the law relative to the weekly routine sabbath but they were
as illiterate as mannequins in regard to applying the spirit of the sabbath.
(e.g. Matt 12:1-13 & Mark 3:1-5)

I am also finding believers who do not accept all scripture as the word of God to men.

They view scripture they don't agree with as the word of a man to men about how they feel about God, the things of God, the church etc....

Paul gives the reason. The created order of things. And the curse of the fall.
God also declares this
Genesis 3:16
To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”

1 Tim 2
11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission.
12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

If you do not recognize the authority of God over you, then you are a rebel like the devil.

The Son sets you free from sin to be a slave of righteousness.

13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

Appropriate verse showing the apostles had the word of God to the churches, and it was not the word of men.

You can see how the apostles teaching being accepted by the church would give them cause to be greatly thankful to God.
Because if it was not received by the church, the church is in apostasy.

Which does happen at the end before Christ returns, a great apostasy. We see it happening today.

2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Read it in context, this is within a Sunday like church worship meeting and related to prophesying, preaching, revelations, teachings.

Paul does not women interrupting a church service to question what is going on.

Order in Church Meetings

26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for [h]edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of [i]confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

34 Let [j]your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

Paul is talking of wives. Wives are married to husbands and the head of the wife is the husband
Acts 2 reads to me as daughters unmarried, women with no husband.

Once a virgin is married, things actually changed for them. In Gen 3 God tells Eve Adam shall rule over her.
But an unmarried women has no husband ruling over her.

Epheisans 5

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
