Perhaps it is linked to the idea that "true" Christians don't question Christianity. ???

Believers = no questions = heaven
Unbelievers = questions = no heaven

But what about... ?
Believer = no questions = heaven

It does not compute somehow. Why? (the question)

--- PARODY ---

Christian #1: Are you a Christian?
Christian #2: Yes, although I'm not completely comfortable with that term.
Christian #1: You aren't comfortable being a Christian?
Christian #2: No, it's the term "Christian".
Christian #1: Shouldn't you stand up for what you believe?
Christian #2: I do. I'm just not a fan of labeling.
Christian #1: Why would you be ashamed of Christ?
Christian #2: I'm not. The term "Christian" comes with a lot of baggage.
Christian #1: It seems to me that you are not a Christian at all.
Christian #2: I hear that from Christians sometimes.
Christian #1: Based on what you have said, there is no proof that you are a Christian.
Christian #2: I suppose not. Can we really know for sure?
Christian #1: Why are you avoiding the question?
Christian #2: You asked me if I am a Christian and I said "Yes..."
Christian #1: But then you backed away from it.
Christian #2: I said I wasn't comfortable with labels.
Christian #1: You are still beating around the bush.
Christian #2: Why didn't you accept my initial answer?
Christian #1: Because of everything else you said.
Christian #2: (sigh)
Christian #1: What's wrong.
Christian #2: This is why I am uncomfortable with the term.
Christian #1: What do you mean?
Christian #2: I don't want to be associated with you.

"Why I'm NOT a Christian."

Jesus said, if someone is gay he's heading for Hell fire. Who am I to argue with Him?

If I spoke out against racism, would that make me black?

It is also written that those who engage in hatred will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21 NIV
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before,
that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

I'll make it easy: NO ONE GOES TO HEAVEN. Jesus is coming here to set up the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.

Thanks.

I suppose this means you are a JW?

Heaven on earth is still heaven. Right?

Not necessarily. NT Wright among other NT scholars advocates that understanding of the "Kingdom of God" spoken of by Jesus. See Revelation 21:1-7. And NT ain't no JW.

What do you make of this? Where is the Father’s house that Jesus is going to? (to prepare a place for you)

John 14:2 NIV
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you
that I am going there to prepare a place for you?

I believe in no final judgement by men. Are you not seeking His face? How clear is His face to you, or to me, or anyone on this forum? Who can say? God certainly is able! What man is?

Are we so different than David?

Ps 27:8When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
1co 13:12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
When is it that a person has arrived at the face to face vision of THEN? God certainly knows. How many men know?

Does that say the "Kingdom of God" (heaven) is on earth?
Yep. That's what it says. A new, redeemed Earth. And God comes down here to be with us.

21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. (Revelation 21:1-3)

Ever pray this prayer? What do you make of it?

(May) Thy kingdom come,
(May) Thy will be done,
On Earth
As it is in Heaven.

You've heard this story, right?

BILLY: If in the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth, what was He doing before that?
SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER: He was creating Hell for people who ask questions like that. Now go do your coloring assignment.

Yup, that's good.
My understanding is that the New Jerusalem comes down out of heaven and touches the earth, but is not part of it?
If you do the math, it is HUGE. The footprint would cover most of the United States. (about 1,400 miles or about 2,200 kilometers)
And it is so tall it would ascend through earth's current atmosphere. (a cube shape) It makes you wonder about the size of the new earth.

Revelation 21:15-17 NIV
The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia[a] in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits[b] thick.[c]

Footnotes

  1. Revelation 21:16 That is, about 1,400 miles or about 2,200 kilometers
  2. Revelation 21:17 That is, about 200 feet or about 65 meters
  3. Revelation 21:17 Or high

LOL
Sadly, that is the attitude of the church.

Ask questions = skeptic = hell

We are expected to believe what we are told without question. (or else!)

There's nothing wrong with asking questions, but it can be taken to extremes too. Some things are just unknowable\unprovable and have to be taken on faith. If questions lead to skepticism and skepticism leads to doubt, it will destroy faith. At a certain point, you're just a Christian in name only.

It is also written that those who engage in hatred will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Some people also confuse speaking the truth with hatred.

Now wait a minute, You just said yesterday that you Are a Christian. Within hours yo start a thread titled, Why I am not a Christian? That does not compute for me. Are you or not? And if you are, then why wouldnt you clarify that in your OP?

Are we talking about other people and the reasons they give to why they are not a Christian? Or are we talking about why St SteVen is not a Christian?

Would you mind expounding on that some for clarification? Then I would know how to respond because I would know where your coming from as the OP. FAir enough?

I'm not seeing any OP by @St. SteVen titled "Why I am not a Christian." I see only this one titled "Why I am not a Christian - Or so they Say."

It's playing the martyr so that others will accept his constant push back against trusting in the Scriptures. He has posted a great many threads to show an many different ways that we shouldn't believe what we read in the Bible, and now is defending his position.

"they call me unchristian just because I ask all these purely innocent little questions . . ."

This is someone who works tirelessly against the Faith.

Much love!

Perhaps you misunderstand his point of view... or is it that you believe you have received a better understanding of what God is saying to men than @St. SteVen ?

Again, my question is, are we living for God by knowledge or by faith? How much knowledge of God and of the things of God does each of us have? I still cannot for certain separate each point of knowledge from each point of faith in myself.

Oh I get it. Like maybe how he supports the bgtzq people and was talking about it for awhile, and that didnt ring through like a true Christian to me and we had some back and forth about it then let that die. I cant be more accepting of gays because I can see where that's against scripture myself. I guess he cant? God say you either with me or against me and I said by hat logic the man is gay because he agreed with the gays.

That's water under the bridge, but he does have some quirky ideas and maybe it's good that he talks about it.

Lol! I dont believe I missed that!
Thx.
