Your version of obedience is works.I don't teach ones works will save them. Obeying will get one saved. Ones works builds a strong living faith that will stand under pressures. Faith without works is dead. And will not stand under pressures because that ones faith is worthless.
There is no pick and choose. Jesus was 100% clear--Man does not live by bread alone but by EVERY utterance from God=OT-NT--Those who obey Jesus learn and apply Every utterance from God, studying NEVER stops.
Romans 4:5 is very clear in saying your faith is what saves you. That's how the thief on the cross was saved.
The NWT is a very poor translation because it makes verses like John 3:36 imply more than trust: Difference between believing and obeying Jesus in John 3:36
The two verbs used in John 3:36 display some important information:
πιστεύω = trust, have faith in, entrust with, believe in, etc
ἀπειθέω = disobey, rebel, disloyal, etc.
The whole point of this verse is, among other things, to trust the Son is to obey the Son, AND, not to trust the Son is to disobey the Son.
So yes to trust the Son is to obey him. If this meant you have to do good works in order to be saved, it contradicts Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Romans 4:5 etc.
So your version of obey adds in works because you misinterpret James 2:17. Yet you ignore James 2:23
"And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend."
What made Abraham righteous? Simply by believing God. By trusting him.
