. If you’re serious about the matter then you’re going to have to block out the voices, including mine, for a while and read the New Testament for yourself
@Riven That's the best thing for you to do. No one of us can convince you of anything.... you need to want the Lord for yourself. Try praying to Him, too, that He will help you to understand what is the truth.

I agree. No one can convince me, so I'm just going to have to read it myself and make a decision.

That’s the right attitude to have. No one can do it for you, nor should they.

Will you do it? If you will, when do you plan to start? How important to you is it to do it?

Actually, while many are taught otherwise, the Bible doesn’t say anywhere that we have a soul; but rather, that we are souls.

Did you miss a few scriptures? Humor. This is something that I have heard Jehovah’s Witnesses say.

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

You mean they say we are souls rather than have souls? Just clarifying it.

Thanks for the verses.
I just copied and pasted scriptures and let them be my reply. Read the scriptures, it can be used either way. Everyone has a soul and sometimes people are referred to as souls.

Substitute the word “soul” with “life” because that is what it means…..it never means a disembodied spirit.

All living, breathing creatures are “souls” because of the air in their lungs and the beating of their heart. Breathing is the common thing that souls do…..and breathing sustains life by oxygenating every cell in the body, through the blood that is carrying it to all of them…..this keeps us alive. When breathing stops, so does the heart and its ability to keep that oxygen flowing. Isn’t that what life support does? Turn off the machine and death soon follows. Souls can therefore not be immortal…souls die. (Ezekiel 18:4)

There is no mention of an immortal soul anywhere in the Bible.

You can substitute anything or everything.

But that does not mean that the substitution is in the actual scriptures or what it means.

The whole MO of the Jehovah’s Witnesses' existence depends on deceiving people into believing that the scriptures do not mean what they say.

There is no mention of an immortal soul anywhere in the Bible.

Nor does the scriptures say that souls are not eternal. That part of us that goes to Heaven or Hell is not well defined in the scriptures. Maybe because we could not comprehend the details. How many types of resurrections are there?….Christ’s resurrection, those that resurrected shortly after Christ’s resurrection and appeared to people, and the resurrection to judgment. These things are not explained in detail. Some of us will be resurrected to eternal life and some of us to eternal punishment in fire. Which suggests that whatever it is that is eternal, it has feelings. Whichever it may be our existence is eternal.....eternal life in Heaven or eternal screaming in agony in Hell's fire.

That part of us that goes to Heaven or Hell is defined as life. Exactly what that is, is open to speculation.

You can always still pray to the Lord. He can help you through it all if you seek Him.
Thanks. It's my grandmother. She has a bad case of cellulitis. She's blind as well. So, staying at the hospital is very emotionally taxing on her. I'm staying with her overnight.

Sigh. I tell ya, life is really something else.

Obviously, that doesnt work. Take the time one rainy day and put "life" in place of "nephesh" ALL 754 times in the Hebrew. Make a big pot o coffee! Truth is, it has more than one meaning.

That aside, I was taught all of my life by JWs that the "soul is just your body~ and the spirit is just your breath". So, when did that change?

Also, can you tell me what JWs call our "impersonal life-force" is? Besides " electricity" which is usual the explanation given.
You know, it's that part of Michael the archangel that God put in Mary's ovum that caused Michael to go out of existence for 33 years, and Jesus must have had it in him somehow since it was in Mary's egg.. but it was impersonal, like electricity, so it didn't do anything for Jesus like change personality or anything- and what was that at baptism annointing of the life-force again or the spirit..?
-and then that lifeforce left Jesus, and went back to heaven when Jesus died and is still dead.. he didn't rise but God dissolved him but that life force went back to heaven, so Michael is alive again. Re-created you say?
So what is a life force exactly?

Good idea.
Keep in mind that This forum is extremely all over the place. I tend not to involve myself too much in most disagreements on here and Christians that I know in life do not bicker like this! Not at all!

I have just one suggestion for you,if I may?
Pray and ask God to help you to understand what you are reading. Pray often. I know you said agnostic- but you can talk to him about that as well. He loves when we are flat out honest about ourselves. Just my .02 because it makes a difference.

Nor does the scriptures say that souls are not eternal.
Actually, they do…. (An English to Hebrew Lexicon will reveal it)
It says the ‘soul dies’.
Ezekiel 18:4

It speaks of ‘dead souls’ in many passages.
Leviticus 19:28; Numbers 6:6; Numbers 19:11; et. al.

Read the Word of God...look for some verses that are comforting to you and remember them in your times of need. Trusting God's Word really does help.

My 94 year old mom died on June 21. She fell and then had hip surgery on March 5. She came home March 20... bedridden and never recovered. She was deaf. I changed diapers from March 20 to June 21. She didn't eat for 18 days....then was on hospice care at our apartment till she died.

Only the Lord who I believed on in 1972 got me through everything. I'm 74.

Ezekiel 18:4 is talking about souls of people that sin and its meaning is ambiguous. As far as the other scriptures you listed nothing to do with souls that die.

If your beliefs focus on the Old Testament and Judaism, look into more modern Judaism as far as the fate of people that sin….It is not the same as Christianity.

But one thing is for sure the Jews were not knowledgeable on the spiritual, that is why scholars call Judaism a “this world religion” And this is why Jehovah’s Witnesses get so messed up with Christianity. Christians should be Yeshua’s Witnesses.

In the Old Testament and even now, the Jews are not sure what Shoal is or what it is about.

As far as a detailed explanation I will stick with Post 50

Would you fix and manage the world if you could @Riven? Would that be of any interest to you?

“Do you feel the world is broken?
We do.

Do you feel the shadows deepen?
We do.

But do you know that all the dark won’t stop the light getting through? …

Do you wish that you could see it all made new? …

Be still and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

Psalm 46:10-11”
