Glorify God in all you do. Shouldn't a Christian look different/better, than the world? Yes. If someone walked into your house could they tell that you are a Christian? Yes. Glorify God at Church and at home.

God has given us spiritual clothing and armour to wear, which includes qualities such as compassion, humility and faith.
But if you go to church dressed like a Hells Angel, and you think that's ok, I would say the bible declares avoid the appearance of evil.
Yes, God looks at the heart, but don't use that as an excuse to dress like an evil crazy maniac.
Or as woman, have half your boobs hanging out while singing in the worship team up front on the stage.....

It's better to have someone dressed casually that's speaks truth and leads souls to salvation, than someone dressed smartly whose message is false and leads souls to hell. There are tons of nicely dressed false teachers of God's word our there.. lots of televangelists that people follow that don't have a clue on how to save souls as reflected by their so-called sermons.
So blue jeans are out but what about other colours?
To that I would ask; did Jesus first followers look any different from the world? Did Jesus himself?

This kind of thing has been on for a long time. I have sort of been on both sides of the issue.
1) A lot of this came from the Jesus Movement of the 1970s, and Calvary Chapel, and the Vineyard movement in the Charismatic movement.
2) the Church Growth movement was another big factor as well. There are some famous Evangelical Churches most notably Mill Creek, and Saddle Back the famous church of Rick Warren. Going back to the 80s there was a movement to get the Baby Boomers back into church. By that time, some that had wandered away from Church were starting to want to come back in. So, this movement did a lot to strip away some of the unnecessary stuff from church services and instead make them more "seeker friendly".
I guess I have seen both sides of the issue. I have been a spiritual seeker myself at times and having a low key church service can be a great boon when you don't have many fancy clothes, or just like to dress comfortably etc. But there are a lot of unforeseen problems that comes with some of these church models, because it is not just the clothes of the minister but some of these churches have turned their churches as much as possible into giant living rooms. So they do things like serve brunch during the sermon. Which in some ways is really cool. But there is some issues like people being too lax in church. You sometimes have issues like people doing things like joking around with their friends during the sermon which at the very least is rude. I also think there are some problems with people not getting some issues of the sacred. People can equate certain notions of the sacred with superstition, legalism but I can show lots of verses that the idea of the Church service as being Holy Ground still should be a point of consideration even in the New Testament, Anias and Saphira being the best case in point.
Consumerism is another big problem of the Seeker Sensitive model. The notion that church services should be tailored to folks wants etc. can be very bad. Its like the religious version of spoiling a kid. Yes in some ways you should tailor things to your audience but you cannot really make disciples when those people think everything revolves around their personal desires.

It's not about color but honor. Honor and respect have the characteristic of lifting up. Dressing down conveys the opposite. It's really as simple as that.
We are supposed to honor God in all that we do.
In logic this is called a False Alternative. Dressing down is not a sign virtue.

Oh wrangler, the inside of the cup is most important. Did Jesus dress up to pray? As long as we are clean and modest is all that matters on the outside of the cup!.

No one ever said the outside of the cup is all that matters. Doubtful that Jesus had a "Sunday best" outfit. And that's the point. Choice.
What does it say when you choose to dress down at a serious event?
Well they won’t be wearing suits or ties either.
A pastor may wear a suit , so as to give an outward appearance of respect, but inside he may have attitudes that are wrong. Someone wearing jeans may have Inner Godly attitudes but just convey a different image.
Didn’t the Pharisees like to impress with outward appearances ………

When I see a messy yard, I know the inside of the house is messy too. It is all a reflection of you. If your car Is messy inside of it, then your life is messy too. How you dress reflects what's on the inside of you.
So everyone that wear jeans and Trainers is messy.
My son’s car is messy because he is working hard as a carpenter and taking care of his children. His house is tidy. My sons house is tidy , he wears trainers and jeans but his garden is messy because he works long hours to pay the bills.
It’s sometimes about priorities what’s the old saying ‘ you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover ‘ !!
