There is not a just man on earth who doesn't sin.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 King James Version (KJV)For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Falling short in some category or another.
James says it's sin with-in us, that comes about and Paul makes that clear also.
James wrote to his audience the twelve tribes saying:
James 1:12-18
King James Version
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Nothing here says anything about being "tempted by the devil" - sure adversaries can be your own mind or perhaps another person that is trying to get you to sin, but Satan has been done away with he can't do anything today. There could be others trying to coheres you or prod you, or even goad you.
The choice is either give in, or give into abiding in Christ.
John 15:[5] I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. [6] If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
I imagine that Christians who end up doing their own choice have a burning of the concious decision and know what they did was not right, and they will call out to the Lord, and he will show mercy...
It's not about sinning and never having any guilt because that would not be good at all... Paul talks clearly to the saints in Rome - that those whom are Christ are to die to sin - that sin with-in them - and allow God to write on their hearts and minds.
That burning could also have something to do with the Lake of Fire - in the afterlife of those who are unrepentant but I believe if God is a consuming fire, and the fire comes from him, and he is good, there is a purpose in that.
