Let's review the verse in question.If the gate does not prevail. The enemy will come in and attempt to rescue people within the gates
You correctly stated that:

As you correctly said, "A gate is a defensive term, it keeps people out."
Okay, then if the gate fails, it doesn't keep people out. Right?
So, if the gates DON'T prevail against the church, what does that mean?
