I just had a fruit smoothie (bananas, pear, apple, lemon, blueberries and celery with coconut milk and raw honey) with Vegemite and cheese on toast....and I toss down a hand full of vitamins....keeps me going.

How many people know that drinking coffee on an empty stomach in the morning can give you reflux at night? I didn't believe it until I switched over to tea instead.....no more reflux.
You wanna get a really good night's sleep? Switch again—this time to Catnip tea. ;)

Oh, and if you want to heal your digestive tract from stem to stern, Slippery Elm Bark is like a miracle cure.

Lol.
I am old now, ( that's what I used to call people my present age ). I find at 66, just turned this month, my tastes have radically changed.
I crave sweets way more often than " good for you " foods.
My doc keeps a check on my A1C. Last time was 5.8

So my sharing of munching on would not be " good " for you Angelina, sorry .:(

I love soup and chowder! My wife is from Pennsylvania Dutch country and she told me about this Chicken Corn Chowder that I'd never heard of when we met in the Air Force in West Germany during the Cold War (the big one!). They didn't have it over there and she didn't know for sure how to make it, so I had to take her word for it. Once I tried it, though, I found it to be worth the wait!

We live about 20 miles or so from her home town these days and these people really do have a self-sufficient food supply. They make just about any staple food item you can find anywhere, except for the really exotic stuff. It's weird because we're just a 2-hour drive from NYC which is pretty much the antithesis of self-sufficiency.

In a slightly unrelated vein, she makes this smoky white bean soup that is really hard not to overeat. She uses some kind of smoked Romano cheese and Canellini beans. Of course, it's creamy, which made me think of it when you said clam chowder.

I can't recall which clam chowder is creamy—Manhattan or New England. It's been so long since I've had any. To be honest, I've only had the canned stuff and it's probably been 40 years or more.

I can't eat a lot of stuff I ate as a kid anymore. My health won't tolerate a lot of processed foods. When I want something that tastes like the sea I have to settle for seaweed - lol. :p
New England Clam Chowder is the creamy one. Yeah, I've ate sea weed before. My uncle cooked some on the beach and we ate it. Was pretty salty and tasty.

I had to go on the vegetables some years ago for my health. Actually, it was the only thing I could find to fully reverse the crippling chronic depression and anxiety I'd had since I was about 7. I still have ups and downs like normal people, but I don't get really sad or anxious for no apparent reason anymore.

Anyway, I've never had fresh seaweed before (lol) but I've had some pretty good mock crab cakes made with packaged Nori and Old Bay-like seasoning (and I still remember what the real deal tastes like—I'm just half of a hop/skip/jump from MD).

Fresh seaweed on the beach! That sounds practically adventurous! And being so natural, surely it would be exempt from raising a fella's blood pressure! Day trip, maybe - lol. :stageright:

Me-just oats-helps me with gym-still doing hardcore gym.
Johann.
A lot of people in English-speaking countries have IBS and don't know it, so they can't take oats—especially if they're not cooked well.

I lived better when I was as poor as a church mouse. It was no fun asking my community charity for help with the rent, but my arteries sure were cleaner.

I don't know if it's nicer to help or be helped but I prefer both. I think it's much better for the soul to be able to do both. Sacrificing to help, giving 'til it hurts. Funny how there's so much wisdom in some of the old sayings.

Well, I've rambled some. People seem to expect it. My daddy used to make fun of my granny's 2nd husband for that. I picked up a lot of little treasures from him, tho.

I'll stop now.

I think.

Yeah.

Anyhow, oats are magic.

Proverbs 30

5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. 7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: 8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

A little preaching to the choir, I'm sure. But consider, the richest and wisest mortal man who ever lived wrote these words of God which verily have in them creative power. How could he have known what poverty might be like? Empathy is a priceless gift. Love first, last, and always, my Brother.

Ooohhhhh that looks delicious @BarneyFife! yummy and so healthy too!
I tried making falafel for the first time years ago and it was a disaster. The chickpeas didn't get cooked all the way through. You have to soak them very well, unless you're using canned, which I've never tried. Air-fried definitely has a different texture than pan-fried but it's not bad at all—not like I was expecting. :)

(Chickpeas are cheap and an excellent source of tryptophan, of which westerners do not get nearly enough.)

Thank you Barney.
I have sleep insomnia really, really bad. Have had all my life.
I'll order some chickpeas or humus for the tryptophan. Milk helps me sleep some but I max out at 4-5 hrs.{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}
