That ship sailed, imo, when you posited in other threads that non-Catholics - even if they are trinitarians - aren’t Christians.
The Roman Catholic Church recognizes 21 ecumenical councils.
The first seven ecumenical councils are:
(1) First Council of Nicaea, 325 A.D.
(2) First Council of Constantinople, 381 A.D.
(3) Council of Ephesus, 431 A.D.
(4) Council of Chalcedon, 451 A.D.
(5) Second Council of Constantinople, 553 A.D.
(6) Third Council of Constantinople, 680-681 A.D.
(7) Second Council of Nicaea, 787 A.D.
College memorization.
The remaining fourteen were covered in college Church history classes but I had to look them up. They are:
(8) Fourth Council of Constantinople, 869 A.D.
(9) First Lateran Council, 1123 A.D.
(10) Second Lateran Council, 1139 A.D.
(11) Third Lateran Council, 1179 A.D.
(12) Fourth Lateran Council, 1215 A.D.
(13) First Council of Lyons, 1245 A.D.
(14) Second Council of Lyons, 1274 A.D.

how do you explain Matt 16:18-19 & 18:18? Bound on earth bound in heaven
and there are only 20 councils
God’s will done on earth = God’s will done in heaven.

I, a non-Roman Catholic, believe the Roman Catholic Church recognizes Vatican 2.
What you and I have in common is that neither one of us believes Vatican 2 is binding on us.
I believe Vatican 2 is binding on Roman Catholics, not on all Christians.
Church councils...beginning in the 4th century were carnal religious practices meant to excommunicate those whom certain ecclesiastics sought to excommunicate others. Further councils sought to get back at those who had excommunicated them by returning the favour...excommunicating them in return. A little understanding of the sin nature in humans explains what was being practiced by trying to reduce the living God to a formula to accept.
The only faithful bishop of that time that I know of is Eusebius who thought the councils were shaming the name of the Lord. He was bishop of Caesarea in Palestine.
At one time there were 4 bishops at Antioch (each condemning the others) and there were 3 popes in Rome later on.
All this was evil in God's sight. Dead man's religion.
Now we continue in that same grand tradition of reducing God to a dogmatic religious ideology...that has no life in it. It is spiritual death.
So no, the councils are meant as tests from God to NOT trust in men ....not meant to be taken seriously. There is a curse associated with trusting men.
