This was spoken to the disciples (John 20:19); there is nothing in this verse that could substantiate applying this to the church, the body of Christ today.

Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

In the associated verse above the time frame of John 20:23 can be construed as being when the kingdom of heaven would be realized

The time frame of this is the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God consists of a heavenly and earthly component (1 Chronicles 29:11). The earthly kingdom is in view here based on Matthew 16:19 saying it is on earth. During the earthly kingdom Peter will be given power to remit sins just as the other disciples.

This is one of the great mysteries of God, and one of the gravest points of error within the Church.

Most have wrongly believed that Jesus gave the keys of the kingdom to Peter to then be passed on from man-to-man…or from one of “flesh and blood” to others of “flesh and blood”—exactly opposite of what Jesus actually said (Matthew 16:13-19). See the verses below. Is this not the doctrine of many since Peter?

Surely, it is.

Even so, Jesus gave the time of when the kingdom of God would come, saying "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you" (Matthew 12:28). Beginning then, and continuing--not fully understood, but stated by Paul, as "but each one (meaning: individual) in his own order" (1 Corinthians 15:23).

But the keys to the kingdom were given in this way:

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”​

14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”​

15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”​

16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”​

17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:13-19).​

Meaning that the keys to the kingdom were not given to those who followed according to "flesh and blood", but rather to those who receive from our "Father in heaven."

Which is to say, just as Moses set before Israel "life and death, blessing and cursing", Jesus did likewise with the church. After which many chose death and cursing, which continues to this day.

It's obvious to me that this conversation will go nowhere.

Doesn't Jesus give the Apostles the authority to forgive sins in John 20:23?
So why are you asking me WHAT CONFESSION I'm talking about?

This is one of the great mysteries of God, and one of the gravest points of error within the Church.

I know people who peddle like Doug has put up. They are not truly born again in fact, because they do not get it.
They have been led to believe that Jesus was not truly who he is ? not that they say such ? but that is the reality of their ends ? They have another Jesus ?
They think that the second coming that people will only be saved ? for their Jesus will be in the flesh ? = the Devil ! just like that of the Jews were being lead down the wrong path with the Leaders Mob of the time.
They that Mob also claim to be the Saved ? but they are not ! they are only religious following a Mob !
They do not abide in Christ Jesus in fact ! for they are only a Mob ! They do not believe in him but on him ? a word ? that they play games with in fact, that's who they are just like the ones who played such games with Jesus and wanted to kill Jesus and did ! that's truly who their Mob is.
Sure all will be Saved at the cominmg, for all of the deceptions and delusions will be burnt up ! so all such workings will be exposed in fact for their will be nothing to be tempted with in fact !
The Devil comes first and then the Hellfire ! everyone will be equal nothings, they will own nothing, have nothing !

They will have to follow Christ Jesus as their Lord and Saviour in fact to survive ! or they will not, could not survive ! after the Helfire.
This Mob demand that Jesus come down to show himself !
But any worthy Christian knows that is not the Issue, to see him in the flesh ? Like atheist morons that I know, they all say that they will believe when they see him in the flesh ! That's the whole issue with carnal people in fact ! They have to see him ? to have faith ? but many seen Jesus in the flesh 2000 years ago and for no account truly in fact, but for when Jesus went to Heaven, Thats when the followers of Jesus eyes were truly opened to the Fact that he is the Christ Jesus !

The Jews who became the first Christians, were born again in fact and so is all who know and abide in Christ Jesus, right from 2000 years ago they are all people who were Saved !

Once truly Saved you can not be Saved twice ! One Saved that's It, one does not go back to the Vomit ? you can't because you know what that is in fact !
If one survived to the second coming, only issue is that all around you will not be under delusions and deceptions in fact ! you will all have to work as one ! so as to survive ! but it will not be an easy life of leasure.
The People who survive the Hellfire will not be under such delusions and will set up the Key issues of the workings of the Devil for all to see and such will be the key to learning foundations for all ! Mandatory ! anyone playng games with such will be exposed directly !

Nowadays the foundations are based on deceptions and delusions in fact, for they who love the darkness creat indoctrinations as their foundations for they do not truly want education as their foundations ! for such will expose them.
