It isn't that I'm blessing those that curse me. I'm just finding that cursing them back doesn't help. What helps me is being able to find the error in their logic and pointing it out to them.
I usually look for logical flaws in arguments, but the best you can do in an argument is show someone their error. You still can't convince people of truth. That's the work of the Holy Spirit. The problem I usually see is that pride has nothing to do with logic. Some people will lie to your face rather than swallow their pride. That's usually where things get ugly. We tend to do awful things to defend our pride.

Not necessarily. Don't apply one Bible verse to every situation that crops up. Just understand the futility of returning insult for insult.
If we are not led by and we do not follow the lead of the Holy Spirit, how can we understand anything at all about God's Way of doing things?

It helps to keep it simple. I think some people are less interested in finding the truth, and more interested in winning the argument.

You say that they will happen? Or do you mean that they should happen or that they might happen or...? Are there alternatives... and does Jesus in a person make a difference in his response?
You would think so, wouldn't you? It takes me a long time to write a thoughtful post, but not so long for a snappy retort. In difficult conversation I find myself convicted of wrongful behavior pretty quickly, but after the fact. With messaging online you can take time to consider your response more carefully and prayer before posting is never a bad idea.

Aren't you glad that men don't duel with swords or pistols anymore to settle issues of pride. However you still have to watch your back on city streets when some men feel disrespected by you. I've had at least one close call in Manhattan.

Brother, it depends. If God is urging you to say something, then say it whether they receive it or not. Sometimes it's a seed that will come up later....even much later. But other times, it is an unprofitable dispute, or casting pearls before swine. So I think each situation is different.
Yeah. T, this is a good point. I tend to be conflict-averse (one of my character flaws), so I may be overly quick to judge that a dispute is unprofitable. Though regarding the particular dispute I have in mind, the "pearls" verse is applicable, since I have had ugly conflicts with this person in the past. Once I said what I had to say, there was no point in continuing the discussion.

What do you do when you are having a theological disagreement with someone, and they insult you? It seems to me it’s best to ignore the insult and explain where the other person’s logic is wrong.

Jesus explained what happens when we insult people (Matthew 5:22). There are people who claim they are following Jesus, who apparently aren’t.

Disagreements are expected. While any two people can be walking on the same path, rarely are they at the same Distance...
and Often they are NOT on the same path.

Either can say, this “my” view and “why”.
It is WHEN one can NOT present “their view” and “their why”, it can quickly turn to “INSULTS they USE as a Defense of their view”.

It’s simply gaslighting. They have no Viable, Defense for their “why”.

An INSULT is intended to “deflect” FROM ONE, whose own “why” is faulty to another.

Anyone Hearing, Reading, “intended accusatory INSULTS”, from one toward another, can plainly see the “intent”, can plainly separate truth from fiction.

Accusations do not equal truths.
Deny, Ignore, Laugh...there will always be those ready to Speak FOR YOU, when their OWN words fail them...

I think there are people that argue out of addiction. Arguing can cause addiction to it also. I created another thread to discuss that issue.

Negativity is addictive...

But basically, a person that is using insults is trolling in a way to get a response. The response is a reaction to the troll insult. Like they're fishing for a bite or trying to shut a person down or just being rude. For people that actually care, there is the thread I mention above that provides insight into this problem. But basically it's important to break the cycle by not engaging with that particular poster. It might be a good idea to put them on ignore if they continually use insults or report them. If they get a warning maybe they'll start playing by the rules. If they are intentionally not playing by the rules then perhaps it's best they not be allowed to post. Problem solved.

The rules are designed to provide a fair environment for all Christians to have civil conversation and debate.

Whipp media's other site (Christianforums.com ) has stricter guide lines and rules against goading, Flaming, proselytizing, and even evangelizing.

It's definitely designed to be a safe space for fellowship, but by compartmentalizing various groups by various theologies, it just gives professing Christians a place to find agreement with like minded individuals without regard to truth.

As someone called to apply scripture for the correction of errant behaviors in the church, I find the site entirely useless for anything but "Holy huddles" and self justification. Truth is not relative, but absolute.

The division of the body of Christ with the incorporation of doctrinal error may have been predicted by the Lord Himself, but was that His intention?
Can maturity be achieved independently?

Hello Michael,

"It's definitely designed to be a safe space for fellowship, but by compartmentalizing various groups by various theologies, it just gives professing Christians a place to find agreement with like minded individuals without regard to truth."

You got that right! It is preaching to the choire. The wheat MUST grow with the tares.

And I for one, do not believe we can grow, especially if not a longtime Christian, without others around us. And also if one lives alone...you will eventually burn out and lose your passion. Just IMHO. We need the "gathering of the brethren". Some who have matured over many years I can see perhaps not attending a church for various reasons like, too far away, or no sound doctrine in the ones near them. They have been strengthened and seek His face always...those less mature, like myself...NEED to have fellowship with other Christians.

It's just harder and harder to find a church that has both love for one another and sound doctrine, not easy to find.

"Holy huddles" Lol!
