I like this!

I find, however, that those on these forums are reading their bible but coming up with differing ideas.

Would a mainline church help, for instance?
SHOULD we all have the same beliefs as Jesus requested?
If we learn to read the Bible we will not fit in with most mainline churches.

They are pretty much all mass commentary.

I attend one of them.

I heard a former missionary to Brazil telling me the other day he was involved in a 6000 page translation job of COMMENTARY to promote the organizations doctrine.

If we need 6000 pages of explanation of our Bible, we need to throw in a bridge or two for sale as we attempt to sell our belief system to mankind.

Sola scriptura.

The Lord’s Supper is a symbol to remind people of Christ and His sacrifice. The power is on Him and rememberance of Him, not the food and drink- use whatever.

In fact here’s a story for you: when my mom was young, the congregation she attended with was quite small and met upstairs of a sandwich store. One day, the person in charge of bringing the bread forgot, so one of the kids went downstairs to ask the shopkeeper if they could have some bread and water. He promptly came upstairs with this long sub sandwich and orange juice- happy to the good stuff with his neighbors. Not wanting to decline this kind man’s gift, the Lord’s Supper that week consisted of nice sub bread and OJ.

But anyways, culturally people usually just use bread and water out of simple practicality.
Thanks. there is more we could talk about on this. But I thank you for you gracious answer and the story.

The clergy that attend schools of men are taught a certain religions dogmas, they do teach a little of what Jesus teaches, but that is not going to cut it. One needs to learn and apply all that Jesus taught. And the big one is--Man does not live by bread alone but by EVERY utterance from God=OT and NT--over and over, year after year. Jesus' real teachers make sure this is done.

Much of the bible cannot be understood. There is alot of symbolism and underlying meanings in some teachings. That is why the 34,000 religions claiming to be christian look like a mass of confusion, because they are. Jesus started 1 single religion. It had truth.
God requires one to worship him in spirit and truth-John 4:22-24. God had a single religion in the OT. It is all thats needed-1 religion out of 34,000 has Jesus. The rest are confused.

Which religion would that be?

That's a cop out.

There was no interpreter for scripture in the 1st century.

We have been dumbed down by PHD's.

Here is how you filter them out....

4 gospels...for sinners to read and believe in Jesus.

Acts...for believing sinners to find how to be saved(2:38).

Romans-Rev...letters written to newly saved saints.

If you follow this personal path, it is bullet proof.

No PHD instructors needed.

The PHD Acts skippers have complicated the Bible.

Any Acts skipper sows confusion.

You better go to school for 8 years if you skip Acts, because it takes that long to convince yourself you are okay being an Acts skipper.

Jesus appointed teachers( apostles) in his day, and they taught others to become teachers as well. They had spiritual leaders in Gods one religion in the OT . And for these last days, Jesus appoints his teachers-Matthew 24:45--They give food( spiritual) at the proper time. This is the path Jesus teaches. Being taught by his real teachers.

This is the problem we get on the forums with some getting their teaching from the Old Testsment, and others focussing on the New Testament, like myself. Not every word from the LORD in the Old Testament is from the Father, and if you notice, there is a fair amount of contradiction between the Old and New Testaments. I'm thinking, this is the source of the confusion. If we think of the arguments Paul had with the Hebrews you can see where the confusion originates. This is why we need to rightly divide the Word of God. If you think about it, there are two polar arguments on any discussion board with one camp majoring in the Old Testament and the Christians in the New Testament. Think about it.

There is no contradiction in Gods truth. Dogmas make the contradictions and errors in translations.

Not sure where this should be...
the study of God seemed appropriate (maybe).

Every denomination has some teaching or doctrine that we would not agree with.

How would you explain the difference between an
incorrect teaching
and
a heretical teaching...?

IOW,,,when does an incorrect teaching become heretical?

Thanks.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. 25 Brethren, pray for us.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth....

26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. 28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

As you said, the problem is with us. One of my favourite hymns is "Follow, follow, I will follow Jesus..."

And Jesus taught everyone how to serve the true God-John 4:22-24--The FATHER is searching for ones to worship him in spirit and truth. The real Jesus pointed his followers to his Father. Like he said-No one comes to the Father except through me. The Father is the destination.

Name a modern teacher that teaches perfect truth...like Paul etc taught.
