No one was saved before water immersion in Acts 2:38 or anywhere else in the new covenant/gospel of Christ. If saved without baptism then Jesus was wrong!

Mark 16:15-16 and Jesus said to them, Go into all the world and preach the GOSPEL to every nation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

How faith and no obedience folks interpret Mark 16:15-16
He who believes and is NOT baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

The gospel saves by Grace, faith and obedience to Gods commandments.
Acts 2.41 indicates that 'they that gladly believed were baptized'.

They were not baptized supposedly in order to become believers. They were baptized because they already believed and wanted to show their faith by being baptized.

I agree they did not get baptized to become believers. They were already believers. They got baptized as Jesus commanded to be saved, Mark 16:15-16

Do you believe we are saved by works?

As per your Mark quote, baptism should accompany the experience of conversion through faith in Christ and His work at the Cross, although the waters of baptism do not actually effect the spiritual passing from death to life (1 John 3.14).

Do you believe we are saved by works?
"Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2.9).

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2.10)

Where does Jesus say you are converted? Mark 16:16 teaches we are converted when we are baptized according to Jesus.

So you believe we are not saved by works?

Mark 16:15-16 is one of the the simple to understand passages in the new testament.

@Titus: When the Lord Jesus said: "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18.3) He was referring to sinners humbling themselves in faith and trust.

Indeed. It's not true faith if there is no evidence.

Also, Paul said: "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." (Romans 4.5).

you wont have faith till you have been converted.
Salvation does not precede faith. Faith comes by hearing the gospel. Then we become believers,

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

Thanks. Are there no works involved in salvation?
Faith is obedience; Paul speaks of 'the obedience of faith' and 'obedience to the faith' at the beginning and end of Romans. Such obedience is not fleshly merit, but as led by the Spirit of God in grace.

i didnt say salvation precedes faith, but faith is a gift from God. Without it, you cant repent, and you cant be regenerated without it.

Correct, Faith itself can be only mental assent, James 2:24. Biblical saving faith, is never alone as Paul taught,
Galatians 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. Saving faith that profits mans soul is a faith that obeys because of love for Jesus.
Since faith that avails must be a working faith. Faith alone is of no profit as James also teaches,
James 2:19
You believe there is one God you do well. Even the demons believe and tremble. But do you want to know O foolish man that faith without works(obedience) is dead.
Faith without works has no obedience, James 2:24.
