I guess they were supposed to?Israel rings a bell. They thought they were elect and crucified christ.
Do you realize that this is an idea that was started with the reformation and specifically by Calvin?...by those who were never truly saved in the first place....
The problem is this G...I don't entirely agree that OSAS is a minority view. It is taught by almost ALL mainstream modern churches that I know of as well as TV pastors/preachers, Christian radio personalities, etc. I have considered it a mainstream teaching for many years now. It's one reason I don't attend any churches in my neck o' the woods.
What do works have to do with this? The idea of forfeiting salvation belongs to those who never had it. What Paul in Romans calls 'the obedience of faith' and 'obedience to the faith' belongs properly to those who do indeed believe, not to those who keep trying to produce supposedly enough works in order to become believers.
Now you are jumping to another form of death, not physical death. Why don't you stick to your topics?
I understand that we die to be born again in a spiritual sense. That wasn't what you were talking about before.
We are to die daily in a spiritual sense.
But our salvation doesn't depend on our spiritual perfection.
See this is the balance I've had to strike to understand that what I was taught by the holiness church was wrong on one hand and what I was taught by the Calvinists was also wrong.
The truth is in the middle.
We can't attain spiritual perfection
and we aren't just saved once
and for all with no say in the matter once it happens either.
On the one side you have this constant fear of losing salvation on the other hand you have this idea that even if you curse God to his face, become an atheist and die you are still saved if you once were.
The problem is this G...
It might seem popular today when listening to these preachers/teachers....
BUT
The idea of OSAS did not appear in church teachings UNTIL the 1500s.
I don't believe Peter had any "salvation" to lose.
After justification comes sanctification. No one forfeits salvation since eternal life is a FREE GIFT OF GOD'S GRACE to the sinner who repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ. Since this person has been born again or born of God, he or she cannot be "unborn".
Some people honestly believe that salvation is merited or earned. But that is complete nonsense. No one could possibly earn salvation, neither can anyone maintain salvation. Justification is by grace through faith, and includes imputed righteousness. Abraham BELIEVED GOD and it was imputed to him for righteousness (see Romans 4).
From where are you coming up with these DOOZIES? Do you even understand what salvation is?No sanctification, justification is also lost.
I am not presuming anything, nor is a laundry list of all that Christ came for the topic of the thread. But you brought it up. Nonetheless, it all centers around atonement.Thanks. Do you presume that Christ came for only one purpose? Believe it or not, I'm not trying to be smart, either. :)
F,John 15 is about fruitfulness. Romans 8 makes it clear that a true believer truly is saved; there is no doubt about it...
Romans 8.38-39 is pretty clear.....
John's First Epistle says a lot about assurance.
It doesn't state there was no real life.If there was no real life in the dead branch in the first place, then it won't abide.
It's not my works or supposed worthiness that supposedly keeps me in Christ. It's all of Him; it's all of grace.
Jesus doesn't leave...Utterly FALSE! ONCE SAVED....IS SAVED Forever.
John 10
[27] My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
[28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Heb 13:
[5] Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Utterly FALSE. Sitting on the fence. IS NOT SAVED.
Matt 12:
[30] He that is not with me is against me...
IF YOU ARE ABIDING WITH JESUS...so what? YOU CAN LEAVE.
IF JESUS IS ABIDING WITH YOU......so what? JESUS CAN LEAVE.
Did you not read and study the OT...??
Men were abiding WITH God....Men LEFT God.
God was abiding WITH men.....God LEFT Men.
Did you not read and study the NT...??
Men were abiding WITH Jesus....Men LEFT Jesus.
Jesus was abiding WITH Men....Jesus LEFT Men.
DID you not LEARN what Jesus OFFERED?
Jesus OFFERED the HOLY SPIRIT TO BE.....IN......a MAN.
DO you NOT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN...”WITH” and “IN”?
Man WITH God is NOT SAVED.
God WITH a MAN is NOT SAVED.
Gods HOLY SPIRIT “IN” a man IS SAVED!
Gods HOLY SPIRIT “IN” a man IS God FOREVER “WITH” that man.
Nothing you say, or claim, or deny....CHANGES God BEING “WITH” a man FOREVER!
Your claims, denial, rejection....has ZERO power to make God a Liar.
Your claims, denial, rejection....has ZERO power to make A SAVED man, Not Saved.
Do YOU understand what OSAS means?Saved forever “no matter what”?
Scripture is NOT about YOUR WORDS.
Scripture is ABOUT discovering Gods WORD.
Do you NOT understand the difference of “being with you” and “being IN you”?
Jesus died as an atonement or expiation. That is not correct
we can not be saved by works PERIOD.
if we could. Christ would never have had to die.
Don't answer to silly questions.
Do you care what is taught today?its not mainstream today.
The largest church denominations do not teach it.
Some of them believed it EG.Um no
Because they NEVER BELIEVED IN GOD's true plan of salvation. They believed they were made right by the law.
Agreed.Jesus taught eternal life not conditional life
He taught those who believed in him would never hunger, never thirst, Never die, they would live forever, and they are assured they would be risen by him (not delivered to him)
Agreed.Paul taught we are saved, in fact not only saved, given EVERY blessing under heaven, Our salvation has the seal of the spirit until resurrection day, and that we are washed sanctified and justified.
John wrote to show that Jesus is God.John taught we have eternal life. and this knowledge is the means by which we keep believing
So it was taught in scripture. Just because the roman church crushed every thought of this basic gospel teaching for years. does not mean it was not taught.
Stop looking at history, listening to me, and look to the word is my suggestion. I beg of you to do this.
