Some came to Christianity honestly wanting to clean up their act and have a relationship with God.
If “ cleaning up your act” is the Way to get to Heaven, Christ died in vain....
We don’t “ clean up the house” and invite God in—— We invite God in and HE cleans up the house...
“ Turning over a New Leaf” is better than being evil , but it won’t save.....If I decided to try to make myself worthy of Salvation, it’s just another way of saying, “ I am going to go back to the 613 Commandments Of God ( not just 10 ) and become a good person and be saved by obeying Gods Laws ....
That certainly sounds good to those with “ itching ears” —- people LOVE to hear that they can “ help out” the Blood when it comes to getting Saved.....Sadly though, God won’t have it — despite how” good” it sounds to a man.....
The Bible says THIS—- “ By The Works Of The Law , NO MAN will be JUSTIFIED!”
I got “Justified” ( Saved) like the Sinful Tax Collector did..... “ NOBODY comes to God lest the Spirit DRAW him.....and the Holy Spirit “ draws” men by convicting them of sin, in other words, the Holy Spirit gives a man a “ CONTRITE HEART” ......like the Sinful Tax Collector, I took my Newly- Made Contrite Heart and cried out to God, “ Lord, have Mercy on me, a Sinner” .......That formula worked for the Tax Collector—— Jesus said he went home “ JUSTIFIED” .....
It worked for the Publican , it worked for me , and it will work for anybody else.....the Secret Of Christianity is seeing that you are a Sinner who MUST have a Savior to make it to Heaven....What I am describing is the True Repentance that one must have to be Saved....It’s a Turning to God—- “ Turn to me and I will Turn to you”...... Do THAT! TURN to Him with a Repentant, Contrite Heart ....watch what He will do....He will Save you .....everything else is just “ icing on the cake” ......” Any man that ASKS for Mercy shall Receive it!”
They KEY to everything is seeing that you NEED that Mercy!
You desire a “relationship with God?” If you have not “ Turned to Him” as a Wretched, Lost Sinner That needs a Savior, you have not even reached “ the Starting Gate” Of Christianity.....You have no more of a Relationship with him by trying to “ clean up your act” than a Chimpanzee does......You gotta Repent.....and you gotta know what Salvational Repentance is.....”Turn to God ( Repent) with Faith in Jesus Christ and He will “ Save you to the Uttermost”..... the onus is upon Him at that point.....He can handle it—— “IF” you let him......
The Gospel is NOT what you do for God....( “cleaning up your act” , etc) it is what God has done for Fallen man....Stop Trying and start TRUSTING .....
That is what “ Faith” is and without Faith it is “impossible” to please God......May God bless us all in the understanding of these things....
