Oh goodness Wrangler,You are being obtuse. There is a difference between following the teachings of Christ, which we all do now compared actually following the man.
The passages I cited indicate the reputation of Jesus spread and people were following his teachings - even to the point of having divine power to cast out demons.
But what did Jesus say when his Apostles told them to stop? The answer is religious Liberty. I look forward to you becoming a Protestant now. LOL
Just because a man THINKS he is following the teachings of Christ doesn't mean he is. Every denomination thinks they are following the teachings of Christ but every denomination has a different interpretation of that teaching.....a different interpretation of The Truth. Sooooo your theory is not workable.
How do you equate the ability of men to cast out demons in the name of Jesus to be the same as men who are follow His teachings?? The passage literally says that the person casting out demons is not following Jesus. That is why the Apostles said to Jesus we forbade him because he does not follow us. It LITERALLY says that the person casting out demons DID NOT FOLLOW JESUS..... They had the ability to cast out demons in the name of Jesus and Jesus told his apostles he was OK with that. Do you think Jesus would be OK with that person twisting His words into something he didn't mean? You are confusing ability to do something IN His name to freedom to read Scripture and interpret it into your own truth.
Since your theory is opposite of what Scripture teaches I will not join you in your Protestant revolution.
