God hates divorce, but he is loving and merciful to victims of divorce. IMHO
Divorce comes with its own natural consequences. What more is needed?

[
We need God, centre stage..let him choose our husband for us...watch this space!

I don’t mean you, I mean the divorcees/ single/ widows...I think you’re a bloke , aren’t you...hehe...we’ve had a few fallings out as well.hehehe,x

I didn't ask that of my wife. Probably not something to ask your spouse. (sounds intimidating)
Definitely don't want to ask your wife that question. Some of answers a husband might not want to hear:
  • I must be being punished for my sins.
  • God gave me a husband to enact judgement against him for HIS sins. (Uh oh!)
  • Meh. 1 Corinthians 7:9 says, "It's better to marry than to burn".
  • I'm asking God that exact same question: Lord, why DID you send me this man?

This one is for the ladies.

I was just thinking about my wife and a discussion we were having.
For some reason this question popped into my head.

Why did God give you a husband?
Just an observation: Of the prominent female voices on CB, only three are happily married. The remainder are divorced, separated, widowed, or never married.

You know, I went my own way, when I married, I never knew the Lord then, I even knew in my gut, not to marry them, still I went ahead and suffered the consequences of choosing the wrong men, ( not saying I was perfect, I wasn’t, I had a mouth on me, back in them days)...

Anyway..once I became Born Again, gave my life etc to God...I will never choose another husband, ...that is Gods department....I wait on him, he knows my heart desire, can you imagine a strong man of God Loving me as their wife.....mind Blowing!..I was only in my 30s when I divorced....never to old for Love and companionship imo...

If it’s not meant to be, I’m fine with that....I would rather die alone, that to be in a toxic, destructive marriage....just my belief and thoughts.

It's an epidemic.
The church is in worse shape than the world.
I tell you what...I couldn’t believe the amount of divorces that were in a church that I used to attend.

Sigh. The Church is just a representative sample taken from the population of Human Beings. Why are we still surprised? Have we bought into our own propaganda that we're better than they are?

(Even though we are called to be just that.)

I don’t believe I’m better than anyone..

I don’t think we are called to be better, I believe we are called to represent Jesus...unfortunately,” self” gets in the way of that, at times.

Well why did he give you a wife ?
answer that and you will have the answer to your question xxlol

That would be another good topic.

My answer might be, "Because I was lonely and asked Him to send me somebody". God answered that prayer in a surprising way. I wasn't expecting an older, divorced woman with two children; I see His fingerprints all over that one. As the Sweet Lady likes to say, "We've been married for over 40 years, and we haven't killed each other yet." I see God's fingerprints all over that one too.

But I wouldn't assume God's reasons for giving a woman a husband and for giving a man a wife are the same, at least not all of the reasons. I would think that He takes into account both the roles He has planned for them and their individual needs.

Thanks for sharing, 40 years - congrats to you and your wife as well.
interestingly I wasn’t a Christian before I got married, so no prayers from me. Yet a chain of events linked to the marriage led to me coming to faith….
1. moved to Haywards heath
2. Had my first child but knew no one in the area
3. Health visitor led me to another lonely mum
4. That friend was then moved by the local council
5. Her new home was just up the road from an evangelical church, which had a playgroup
6. When my son started there they began a weekly Bible study for the mums
7. They prayed
8. I became their first success story when I came to faith about three months later
9. Without my faith I would never have survived my 27year old marriage with all its twists and turns !

A work of the enemy against us, I believe. Bringing disharmony and ruin to relationships.

A VERY interesting answer to the OP's question, "Why did God give me a husband?"

"All things work together for good, ... for those who are called according to His purpose", they say. (Roman 8:28).

They expect better from us. As they should, I suppose.

They don't; but they do laugh at our pretensions. As they should, suppose.

It is us who expect better from ourselves. As we should, I suppose.

I actually had a different reason for pointing out the unexpected demographics of this board.

Don’t you think that because we often forget who the real enemy is, that this is what leads to division.
So although we are aware of his schemes we often forget and fail in our approaches to our enemies, as Jesus advised us to. We often react and respond to who is being used by the schemes - and often as not we respond as the world responds, making us no different.

My wife and I figured out that one of the schemes had to do with altering our "hearing".
Many couples will get into these "You said...", "No I didn't." arguments.
"That's what you said, I heard you say it. (not necessarily) Beware. (deaf and dumb spirits)

We clarify what we heard by saying, "Here's what I heard you say... is that correct?"
Give your partner the opportunity to clarify. Or if you prefer...

"I heard you say it."
"No you didn't."
"Yes I did."
"I didn't say that."
"Liar."

(the enemy is rolling on the floor laughing)
