Written word, is a more formal saying for sure. No be as cynical and as skeptical as you want. From my perspective, the Bible, or written word is extremely valuable. Are you saying we do not live by the written word, but we actually live by the holy spirit which God gives to individuals who believe in his death, burial, resurrection - which can included the acension even return of the Lord Yeshua.Use the written word as a quality-control check.
I hope you'll pardon me for being a little bit cynical when it comes to claims of "living by the spirit".
But then, I could be wrong. You won't go broke betting on me being wrong about spiritual things.
There are many people who are thrown a curve, when that beliving Jesus had already came, is something that is possible by faith.
Would that because of the way that the written word is taught? I watched a 2 hour video from a local church the other day, and all it was very little reading, a pastor just walking around speaking kind of on how he felt at the time, and it reminded me of the first time I went to a pentacostal church seeing them sing, and then having people falling out on the floor. This is a very good topic. Of course, one's perception of the Bible has a lot to do with where they are in the maturing process of being a Christian. They acceptance scale of their faith will vary dramatically.
Those things scared me as a child.
That is the most important thing, investigation and not taking a pastor(s) word for what they say. I've heard the truth will set you free but it's possible it will piss you off first. My faith is in God (Yahweh) and His Son (Yeshua). God sent me to someone who eventually got me to church. I am an "investigator" by nature, so I started investigating. The things I discovered would be very frustrating to many, and it was to me as well.
Absolutely. Many years later, and a seminary degree, did not answer all my questions. The bible is a book made of writings that span four thousand years, so it is difficult to understand. Of course, the proof of that is how many translators choose different words and add punctuation that varies our understanding. I delved deep into hermeneutics and purchased other references and software programs to enable myself to see if I could find "truth."
Praise be! That's is why all us can get a long and share our differing views however to be dogmatic isn't that a problem? doesn't that cause issues and frictions like the moving plates of earth that cause earthquakes? Now, the short version of where I am is "my faith is in God" who created the world we live in. The bible is a pathway to understanding, but not the end-all without knowledge of topics that clarify how to understand what was written. To try to establish truth without that understanding is why we have so many denominations. Those studies are man-centered. There is but one truth, and we must invest our time to diligently seek God's truth. That is what will set us free.
I would agree there are many different authors out there to consider history to consider, but in the end you have to consider what is truth to you? Myself I am right there with you, drawing closer to God and having faith, in Yahavah/Yahweh, and looking to his Son, picking up the cross and continuing to move forward even if someone disagrees with what you may have concerning your perspective. There are people who try to cause harm and make people lose faith, but there is nothing wrong with believing what the bible entails, concerning those people at the time, and continue to have faith until the end of your life wouldn't you say?Discovering all this shook up my whole world. It was painful for me then, and it still is to some degree. That part that will seem strange to people is that this discovery has drawn me closer to God and my faith in Him has increased. The bible is a resource, but not the only one.
Depends, there are people out there that do not know about Jesus, but they continue to have faith in Yahavah, they do so by the evidences they see and in their heart see there is something greater than them, they probably don't even worry about Jesus coming back, and they live their life, having faith in Yahavah, and at the end of their life, lived a life of faith and love. What say you? I love the bible it's wonderful.Which is greater, the Word, or the God who inspired the Word? Echo of Matthew 23:17-22 from The Word intentional.
(See, I can play both sides of this one.)
