You must say “I baptize you in the name of Jesus Christ “.

That is, if you’re not a gambler.
According to the extra biblical comments of the Protestant men you read......you are right; you must say that.

According to Scripture, you are wrong. :gd

The son per Matt 28:19 is Jesus.

The name of the son per Matt 28:19 is Jesus.

The command is to baptize in the name of the son, which is Jesus, correct?
Got it...so your men, who have written extra biblical things, taught you it is ok to change Scripture and add what word you think should go into that saying while baptizing? Fascinating.....

According to Matthew, written around 65AD, here is the command on how to baptize: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,. Today, us Christians still adhere to that. It appears you don't.

According to the Didache, an extra biblical writing written around 65AD, here are the instructions on how to baptize; baptize into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, in living water. Today, us Christians still adhere to that. It appears you don't.

According to Hippolytus, an extra biblical writing written around 217AD, it says, ‘Amen, I say to you, unless you are born again with living water, into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,! Today, us Christians still adhere to that. It appears you don't.

The writings from the first 170+ years of Christianity, biblical and extra biblical, show that the extra biblical writings of your men are wrong. That is unless you can produce some extra biblical writings from your men BEFORE 65AD to show that there was a disagreement on how to baptize?

I know you can't and won't and you will come back with some silly quip....but hey, at least I have evidence on my side to support what I say. You have NOTHING to support your opinion:gd

Do you want to make a big thing out of the proposition "EIS?"

BTW
It's not the Church
It's the church.

Learn the difference.
Lol...well first off, I didn't write "the Church". I wrote "The (capital T) Church".

2nd off, it IS The Church because Christ started The Church not a church; a church would be a spin off from The Church with the most common ones being Protestant.

I am glad I was able to teach you the difference.....

Your welcome...Mary

Do you really think I care what you think?
Lol....Hold on. I just called you out on your false statements and THIS is your rebuttal?

Shouldn't it be the other way around? You made the false statements about The Church so I shouldn't really care what you think.....:watching and waiting:

Thus guy is a Modalist, so he believes that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are ALL named "Jesus" - and NO amount of Scriptural evidence will change his mind.

He is stuck in the mire of
heresy . . .
I even showed @Truther how from the earliest writings of Christianity what his men have taught him is wrong....but he said he doesn't read extra biblical writings....He CLEARLY only reads the extra biblical writings of HIS men. :jest:

Greek Text of Matthew 28:19
The Greek text of Matthew 28:19 reads:

“πορευθέντες οὖν μαθητεύσατε πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, βαπτίζοντες αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ Πατρὸς καὶ τοῦ Υἱοῦ καὶ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος,”

Lexical and Grammatical Analysis
πορευθέντες οὖν (poreuthentes oun):

πορευθέντες (poreuthentes) is the aorist participle of πορεύομαι (poreuomai), meaning "having gone" or "after going."
οὖν (oun) is a conjunction meaning "therefore" or "so."
μαθητεύσατε (mathēteusate):

This is the aorist imperative form of μαθητεύω (mathēteuō), meaning "make disciples" or "teach."
πάντα τὰ ἔθνη (panta ta ethnē):

πάντα (panta) means "all" or "every."
τὰ ἔθνη (ta ethnē) means "the nations" or "Gentiles."
βαπτίζοντες (baptizontes):

This is the present participle of βαπτίζω (baptizō), meaning "baptizing."
αὐτοὺς (autous):

This is the accusative plural of αὐτός (autos), meaning "them."
εἰς τὸ ὄνομα (eis to onoma):

εἰς (eis) means "into" or "in."
τὸ ὄνομα (to onoma) means "the name."
τοῦ Πατρὸς (tou Patros):

τοῦ (tou) is the genitive singular article.
Πατρὸς (Patros) is the genitive singular of Πατήρ (Patēr), meaning "Father."
καὶ τοῦ Υἱοῦ (kai tou Huiou):

καὶ (kai) means "and."
τοῦ (tou) is the genitive singular article.
Υἱοῦ (Huiou) is the genitive singular of Υἱός (Huios), meaning "Son."
καὶ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος (kai tou Hagiou Pneumatos):

καὶ (kai) means "and."
τοῦ (tou) is the genitive singular article.
Ἁγίου Πνεύματος (Hagiou Pneumatos) is the genitive singular of Ἅγιον Πνεῦμα (Hagion Pneuma), meaning "Holy Spirit."
Exegesis of "the Son" (Υἱὸς - Huios)
Term: The Greek term used here is Υἱὸς (Huios), which is translated as "Son." This term is a common designation for Jesus Christ in the New Testament and is used to express the relationship between Jesus and God the Father.

Meaning: In the context of Matthew 28:19, Υἱὸς (Huios) signifies Jesus Christ as the Son of God. The term is used to denote Jesus' unique relationship with the Father, indicating His divine sonship and authority.

Theological Implications:

Divine Sonship: The term underscores the belief in Jesus’ divine nature and His essential relationship with God the Father. It affirms the doctrine of the Trinity, where Jesus is recognized as the second person of the Godhead.
Authority in Baptism: The command to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit signifies the authority and unity of the Triune God in the act of baptism. It reflects the foundational Christian belief in the triune nature of God.
Distinct Personhood: By specifying the Son, the passage distinguishes Jesus from the Father and the Holy Spirit, acknowledging His distinct personhood within the Trinity while affirming His full divinity.
Contextual Interpretation
In the broader context of Matthew 28:16-20, known as the Great Commission, Jesus instructs His disciples to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This command emphasizes:

The Universality of the Mission: The directive to baptize all nations highlights the global scope of the Christian mission and the inclusiveness of the gospel.
Trinitarian Baptism: The formula of baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit reflects the Trinitarian understanding of God, which is central to Christian doctrine and practice.
Conclusion
In Matthew 28:19, Υἱὸς (Huios) refers specifically to Jesus Christ as the Son of God. This term affirms His divine nature and unique relationship with the Father. The instruction to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit encapsulates the Christian belief in the Trinity and underscores the comprehensive authority of the Triune God in the sacrament of baptism. The passage highlights both the universal mission of the church and the foundational Trinitarian understanding of Christian faith and practice.

Listen here, Catholic, you inherit something that first belongs to somebody else. Let that sink in.
Read it and weep….as he hath by inheritance… obtained a more excellent name…

Bingo

Why is it a more excellent name? Because he inherited it. Super simple.
Here comes all the extra biblical commentary and a massive blast of Greek redefinitions… Lol
.
Like I said - it's ALL based on your igorance of Scripture and languages.

As I schooed you on my last post - the Greek wors used here means "to receive".
"Inherit" is a SECONDARY definition.

Much like the word "Pray" means "to ASK" - with a secondary defnition of "Adoration".

There is NOBODY named "Jesus, Sr." in Heaven.
YOU push this narrative to support your cultish and heretical beliefs . . .

He condemns ALL commentary from the ECFs - but the manure he posts on Youtube is . . . wait for it- COMMENTARY.

That's pretty funny seeing nothing in the New Testament tells us we should pray to Mary to see if she'll put in a good word for us with the Lord.

Jesus instructs His followers to pray to the Father in His Name and He makes no mention of praying to Mary which is a complete waste of time and is something satan brought in to oppose what Jesus instructs His followers to do.
Pray simply means to "ASK" - to male a "REQUEST".
"Adoration" is a secoondary definition.

Jesus was speaking of a very specific form of prayer.
Matt. 6:6

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

He DIDN’T say,

“But when you ASK (pray) something of someone, go into your room, close the door and ASK (pray to) them, . . ..”

Context, son - CONTEXT . . .

Go back and study the difference some more.
It's something the CC knows about but that you apparently do not.

The following video is for YOU
and for @BreadOfLife

Watch the first few minutes.
Maybe you'll learn something important to know.

I think the two of you are POISON for the CC that you're supposed to be representing and are doing a terrible job of it.

I don't know @Jude Thaddeus well, but I'm hoping you two don't rub off on him....maybe he has some hope for being a good representative of the ORIGINAL CHURCH.

Lol...But you write "extra Biblical commentary" all the time on this forum. Also, I am willing to bet that you read extra biblical commentary all the time, but you won't admit it. :coff

With that said it appears you are not going to rescind your false statement of which I predicted:woohoo!:
OK, I won’t comment at all. Read it and weep…

….as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name….

I am not a protestant, but you are a protestant. Your men protested Peter and disobeyed Acts 2:38, causing an avalanche of Acts skippers.

I agree with Peter wholeheartedly. All of you folks are protestants, including Catholics.

Blah blah blah blah blah. The fact is, Jesus inherited his name from his Father. You have no idea how inheritance is obtained and if it belong to somebody prior.
You guys are so messed up it is pathetic. I saw the mass Greek come out and the mass commentary trying to debunk Hebrews chapter 1 verse 4.

Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Make it go away please make it go away. Help me, James Strong… Lol.

Hi GG,

I have never claimed to know everything, so it is bizarre for you to make that accusation of me.

If telling you that you are wrong about what The Church teaches, and then backing it up with facts, makes me " POISON for the CC" then I choose to be arsenic.

I watched the first few minutes of the video you attached. I suspect the "something important" thing you want @BreadOfLife and I to "learn" is to be cordial and have charity in our discussions? You want us to respectfully talk about our differences? You don't think that BOL and I are cordial or respectful?

Well, here are the facts. I decided to look back at the flow of our conversation in this thread. Who said what to whom! The FIRST post that started getting a little un-cordial or disrespectful was from you when you said that you "will no longer address Catholics here who do more to HARM THE CHURCH than to help it".

In your next post you accused me of being a liar further saying "PS I remembered you as being a nice person....guess you've been around Bread for too long and have absorbed his attitude!

So in 2 separate posts you accused me of harming The Church and suggested that I am not a nice person. All of that because I pointed out to you how you were wrong about what The Church teaches and asked you if you are you going to address the fact that your statement was false or are we just going to pretend it didn't happen!

In a post to @Taken you said about BOL, "I won't be carrying on conversations with those that don't know HOW to converse." I started laughing when I read that. Of allll people to say that too you said it to TAKEN????....who doesn't know how to have a cordial, charitable or respectful conversation.

You crack me up GG......
