Thank you for your post.
No one disagrees that nasty people shouldn’t be punished. And God says “eternity” and “lake of fire” so that is that.
But, like Job, I ask, ”Why eternal torture? Couldn’t there be a very long punishment (not torture) with a chance for redemption?” Something like purgatory, with hard physical and mental tasks, humiliation?

The easiest way I can explain it is this way
With adam came the fall of mankind,
With Christ came the possible salvation of all mankind.
If salvation is applied. the barrier between God and the person is restored.
if salvation is rejected. the barrier between God and that person remains.
We are eternal beings, God wants us to spend eternity with him, If we react to his call and receive him, we will spend eternity with him,
if on the other hand, we do not react. and reject him, we will spend eternity apart from him.
we are going to see, and soon I believe, what this earth looks like when God removes his protective hand, we are going to see evil like this world has never seen before. even families turning against families. It is called the great tribulation. God is holding back evil now. willing that non should perish.. but we will get a preview of sorts of what it will be like in eternity for the lost.
and remember, even in the tribulation period. There are saved people so it is not what it will be like fully in the end.
But that is a preview of what eternity will be like apart from God. It will not be a great party that alot of people make it out to be. But they have no one to blame but themselves.
We can't Blame God. God made a way of escape for them. they willingly chose to reject it
