The way to obey God is by being a doer of His character traits, which is also the way to worship Him.
YHVH(Jehovah) gets worship, he alone is God. Jesus is Gods son, a son is never his own Father. Jesus is his image.

Perhaps obedience to God has nothing to do with modeling his character traits?

If this is true, wouldn't disobedience be the opposite?

[
The Bible often uses the same words to describe the character traits of God as it does to describe the character traits of God's instructions, which is because it is God's instructions for how to be a doer of His character traits, such as with it being holy, righteous, and good (Romans 7:12) or with justice, mercy, and faithfulness being weightier matters of the law (Matthew 23:23).

God's way is the way to know Him and Jesus by being in His likeness through being a doer of His character traits, such as in Genesis 18:19, God knew Abraham that he would teach his children and those of His household to walk in God's way by being a doer of righteousness and justice that the Lord might bring to him all that He has promised. Sin is what is contrary to God's way, such as with unrighteousness being sin and sin is the transgression of God's law because it was given to teach us how to walk in God's way (1 Kings 2:1-3).

In Exodus 33:13, Moses wanted God to be gracious to him by teaching him to walk in HIs way that he and Israel might know Him, and in Matthew 7:23, Jesus said that he would tell those who are workers of lawlessness to depart from him because he never knew them, so the goal of the law is to teach us how to know God and Jesus by being a doer of His character traits, which is His gift of eternal life (John 17:3). This is also why Jesus said that the way to inherit the gift of eternal life is by obeying the greatest two commandments (Luke 10:25-28).

The way to believe in God is by directing our lives towards being a doer of His character traits, such as by being a doer of good works in obedience to God's law we are testifying about His goodness, which is why our good works brings glory to Him (Matthew 5:16), and by testifying about God's goodness we are also expressing the belief that God is good, or in other words we are believing in Him. Likewise, the way to believe that God is a doer of justice is by directing our lives towards being in His likeness through being a doer of justice in obedience to His instructions, the way to believe that God is holy is by being a doer of His instructions for how to be holy as He is holy, and so forth for God's other character traits.

This exactly the same as the way to believe in the Son, who is the radiance of God's glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3), which he expressed through his works by setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to God's law. This is also why there are verses that say that the way to have eternal life is by believing in the Son. The point of Christianity is for us to be in Christ's likeness through being a doer of his character traits in accordance with following his example of obedience to God's law.

The way to love God is also by directing our lives towards being in His likeness by being a doer of His character traits, such as the way to love justice is by being a doer of justice, and so forth. In other words, everything that God has instructed was for the purpose of teaching us how to love a different aspect of His character, which is why the Bible repeatedly says that the way to love God is by obeying His commandments.

The point of Israel obeying God's law is to be a light and a blessing to the Gentiles by testifying about His character (Deuteronomy 4:5-8).
