I’m not arguing against Yahweh. I’m arguing against people who say that Yahweh wants those under the New Covenant to kill their enemies.
I'm not a pro-war person by any means. But If YHWH backed the armies then, I think He can now, especially when they were commanded to love one another. and still going to war. He decides a war's outcome not us. There is no disparity in His view, apparently. I understand the arguments on both sides of this issue.
But if there was a "just" war- and we were being attacked-innocent civilians being killed, women being raped -we are allowed to defend them, not just make everyone else do it for us.
laying down your life for your friends is a noble thing. I dont believe God has all black and white thinking.
I like your appeal to conscience. I seldom self-identify as a pacifist (because most people have it stuck in their heads that all pacifists are the same - they’re not - and that pacifists advocate doing noting at all in the face of evil - some do, some don’t; I don’t.) I constantly refer to myself as a consxientious objector.
And it's a wonderful thing that we allow objectors by conscience! That's what I'm saying.
I had a relative killed in WW2- he was a doc on a Navy ship who died when it was bombed while attending others. Are you opposed to non-combat roles too? There are plenty of non-combatant jobs.

A rhetorical question: Does the military train soldiers to love their enemies or does the military train soldiers to kill their enemies?

A seceond rhetorical question: Does the clergy train disciples to love their enemies or does the clergy train disciples to kill their enemies?
lol some rhetoric..
Silly? You want militaries to kumbaya?
Could there be a difference between murder and killing? Hear me out- when a cop has to shoot a criminal he doesnt have hatred in his heart for that person- he is trying to protect others by stopping him. They end up going to counseling in order to deal with the sadness of it, as protocol. Cops dont wake up hoping to murder someone. it's the intent we should remember.
Same with military. Otherwise, YHWH had his people commit murders in the OT. They didnt hate them and want to go murder them. They were told to kill them. Sounds crazy? I suppose, but that's what happened.

Clergy leaves it to conscience. So do I.

youre welcome. take care.

Where did the “Just War” theory come from? And when?

It didn’t come from Jesus. Nor did it come from his Apostled. The earliest Christians knew nothing about it. They were willing to suffer martyrdom (and many did) rather than to kill their enemies.

I am clergy. I teach disciples to love their enemies, not to kill their enemies.

The origin of the Just War theory doesn’t come down to us from Jesus, nor from the Apostles. It comes to us from the Church after the Roman Empire stopped persecuting believers.

and you should follow your conviction.

If my conviction doesn’t imitate the conviction of the Messiah and the Apostles then I would say it is of very questionable value.

see ya'round

I worked for the government for three and a half decades. It was a mixture of good and evil. “Believers” ordered me, on several occasions, to do evil. I refused and paid a very high price for doing so.

I didn’t know how long I would be around then. (A miracle happened on the day that they dropped the axe - an unbelieving work colleague called it ’a stroke of luck’ - that allowed me to stay there almost 20 years longer than those “believers” thought possible.)

I don’t know how much longer I’ll be around here. As long as I am, we’ll likely continue to cross paths. You’re a good conversationalist.

Ok Matt. Like I said- I am not a fan of war- but I am not clergy, so no one asks my opinion. I would likely steer them to non-combat positions in a draft situation.
I dont know either. It's not the best forum by a long shot. i only joined because I saw the incognito JWs earning their time cards on here. I can't possibly keep up with how much they post.
I will leave the people here in the capable hands of the Lord. Those who belong to Him will never fall for it.
take good care-

Cults often make fashion statements. Maybe it’s both, or neither. I’m leaning toward it being cult behavior, on the part of some.
How is it any different than Christians obsessing over the cross? Wearing one of those on a necklace everywhere you go is also a bit of fashion statement. Although not nearly as original, I'm sorry to say.

Well it sure isnt the Government, that's for sure.

Who ever heard of the Secret Service failing in their task? Those guys are like the real MIB, the real deal. They do not fail.

Even when that nut tried to kill President Reagan, the President got shot, but those guys jumped. James Brady saved Reagan life. That was a terrible situation but he took that bullet. They completed their task.

But the situation was vastly different than that for President Trump. They want us to believe that these guys who jump in front of bullets to save their charge...well we didnt put anyone on that roof because it had a slight slope and there was a safety factor...For guys who jump in front of bullets as their job. Is that even slightly believeable?! NO! Next thing you know they'll want us to believe that a couple guys with laptops that were in a cave in Trashcanastan can take down the USA's defense system! Oh wait, they already did that on 9/11/2001.

The only one left that we can depend on is the Lord. There is no one else. Pray for Trump's safety.

That roof had such a slight slope, it was ridiculous not to put a sniper up there. I guess that's why she (director) didn't put someone on top of that really tall water tower....a perfect viewpoint.

She will be questioned tomorrow on the Hill. Others later in the week.

Yeah I think it was Augustine that started that foolishness

He was responsible for some of the false doctrine espoused by the catholics

They do not fail.

Apparently they not so successful anymore.

Yes, trust the Lord Jesus only and pray that Trump pulls his head out of his hinder quarters an d quits moving to the left!

Too bad Spurgeon was a calvinist FAILING to accept the whole counsel of God which is how one becomes a calvinist

And absolutely nothing will come of these hearings
