You are right.ESV, Luke 8:
Strong's Greek: 868. ἀφίστημι (aphistémi) — 14 Occurrences
BDAG:
① to cause someone to move from a reference point
② to distance oneself from some pers. or thing
According to Jesus, could a believer fall away?
Yes, shallowed believers could easily fall away.
A young person is forced to go to church by their parents. They make some friends there who are all committed christians. They don't want to be the odd one out so on that basis make a commitment too, though it is obviously a shallow one. Will they ''officially'' be placed in a saved state despite a shallow commitment? Yes! But, when the time of testing comes they will fall away due to that shallow commitment
In the third example of the parable, people keep getting sidetracked from the path they should be on by worldly things. Jesus did not say they walked away, only they did not mature. You mature by evermore practicing right from wrong.
Much to discern from the parable!
