Hi new to this. I have a question. I know Christian means mini Christ like. Meaning We are to act like Christs character. Giving, sharing loving, etc. I have heard on the radio station KWAVE in Ca. that Christian was a word made up from men. That Jesus had never used the word. I know the bible uses it in Acts 11:26 , Acts 26:28. So did Jesus ever refer to that word in the bible. Thanks

Hi Fran welcome to CB glad to have you aboard:)the word Christian is only used twice in the BibleAct 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. 1Pe 4:16 Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. It is the greek word Christianos and means a follower of Christ in a literal context meaning not nessisarily meaning to be like him but one who follows the man and what he teachs,of course in following his teachings we are to behave like him

Christian means to be a follower of Christ. We are all disciples of Christ. If we don't strive to be like Christ, nor aggree with His teachings, then you don't have what it takes to get into heaven.

Thank you for all of your responses. Yes, I knew it was in the bible three times. I was having a discussion with someone and after hearing it on the Christain radio I mentioned it to that person that Jesus never referred to anyone as being Christains. It was a word made up from man which appeared in Acts 11:26 for the first time in Antioch, because they all had (Jews,Gentiles) one in common which was Christ not race or langague or culture

Hey Fran-I'm fairly new here mself.Actually the Greek translation is "Christos", which means follower of Christ. Thus, my suggestion is, its not made up by men, or where did the original word come from but God to describe all followers of Christ regardless of race? The fact it appears for the first time ever used for "followers of Christ, in God's Word, shows, it was "God Breathed"- spoken, inspired, etc by God, not a man's perception, but by God's leading of men to say it.God Bless!!

Christ -ianYou've all done a good job already. All you have to do is break down the word itself. It means "Christ man" or a follower of Christ. It works the same way a republican (not the party) would be a follower of a republic. Obviously, our vocabulary removes the "i" in that case, but it works the same.

Welcome to the Board, Fran. The word Christians is used only one time in Acts 11:26. The word Christian is used twice in Acts 26:28 and 1 Peter 4;16. Jesus isn't talking in any of those.
