The new man walks in righteousness, the old man walks in unrighteousness.

Put on the new man…

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a “new creature:” “old things are passed away;”behold, all things are become “new.”

Galatians 6:15
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a “new creature.”

Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in “newness”of life.

Ephesians 4:24
And that ye put on the “new man,”which after God is created “in righteousness”and true holiness.

Colossians 3:10
And have put on the “new man,”which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, (old man) even so in Christ (new man) shall all be made alive.

Put on the “new man”…

Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have “put on Christ.”

Romans 13:14
But “put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ,”and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

The old man is of the earth, and is born of “the flesh,”being natural or “carnally minded” having a “sin nature”

1 Corinthians 15:47
The first man (old man)is of the earth, earthy; the “second man”(new man)is the Lord from heaven.

The new man is born from above by the Holy Spirit, being spiritual He is “spiritually minded”having the “Divine nature”of God.

2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the “divine nature,”having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

In the old man there is “Death”because of sin, in the new man there is “Life”because of Righteousness.

Romans 8:6
For to be “carnally minded is death;”but to be “spiritually minded is life and peace.”

Peace

You have pushed a button with me in your misunderstanding of the Greek root word "Kainos" which has the meaning of "freshness" i.e. made like new again. 2 Cort 5:17 I believe makes more sense if it is paraphrased this way: -

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a renewed creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become renewed.

It is a bit like the parable of the new with respect to the age of the wine which is put into renewed/refreshed/refurbished wineskins so that the wine skins will not burst. The skins are brought back to life so that they are soft and subtle once again and are no longer hard and brittle.

Even a new, i.e., neo, wineskin which has not been used can become hard and brittle over time and will also require refurbishment just like an old/used wineskin so that it can hold the neo wine.

God accepts us as we are and with gentle work refurbishes us so that grow into His likeness. We are not made brand new again but by the renewing of our mind the old self fades away to be replaced by the righteousness of Christ.

Shalom
