I believe there is absolutely no way that the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of a Christian cannot be impacted by that person listening to music that glorifies graphic sex outside of marraige with multiple partners, drug use, violence, misogyny, love of money, or worship of self.

Because of the lyrics or the person that wrote it?

Again, I don't listen to it for the lyrics but it's a moot point.

I was thinking about this today and realized you might be coming from the perspective that the PERSON THAT WROTE IT is why it shouldn't be listened to, because it wasn't written to Glorify God...

If that's ALSO the case... What of the many Christian artists who write "Christian" songs to attempt to bring glory to self? Their pocketbook? Their fame? It wasn't written to the Glory of God- seems no better than the secular stuff, then.

So we come right back around to the lyrics... The motive for listening.

Really like some of the fellowship in this thread...

And I like the principle Texus was pointing out in his last post...

I'd way rather be darkness that knows it's darkness than darkness that thinks it's light... better to be hot or cold than mixed up and luke warm because being mixed up, mixes everyone else up...

Let the rappers that glorify sin do what they do and be cold... even that glorifies God... God is like light... the light isn't just glorified when it's present... it's also glorified when it's absent... because when light is present it gives sight... but when it's absent sight is removed... so either way light is glorified as the one who gives sight...

Same with God... when God is present He brings life... and when He's absent there is death because He is life... but either way He's glorified as the one who brings life... it's obvious in all those rappers who reject God in their rhyming that life is absent... so even in that it's glorified that God gives life... because when He is absent so is life... hopefully they'll repent and use they're talents for the Lord... wouldn't that be a witness? GET HOT!!!

Hi All!
Great thread!

I'm not all that keen on hip hop/ rap music either but it's out there and plenty of young people are following it. Christian style rap does not carry the spiritual weight that comes from the lifestyle but it does provide a window of hope for those who are otherwise engaged. As new believers ...some still search for that old connection but with the God factor included. God is very patient....and it can take time to rid the old man! :)

I like this song by up and coming rap artist Joshua Webb [Aka - J Dub]
Had him on my Radio programme one night...awesome!

Blessings!

I don't like listening to music that has lustful tones, or cussing, or blasphemy, or any of that type of stuff. Although, there are a few songs that I consider masterpieces of music that have evil undertones, or even just downright evil.

However,,,,,

Does every song have to be about God? No, are all the Psalms praises? Are all the Psalms gospels or hymns? No.

Sing what's in your heart and your feelings.

If you're sad, sing a sad song, If you're happy sing a happy song,,, etc etc

If you can talk to God about how you feel and what you think, you can sing to him too.

Music can pull people out of rutts and pull people together and it lifts the mind and emotions.

If I sing about my heartache and someone else relates to the song and it helps them,,,,,,, That's also Glory to God.

I don't believe any music comes directly from the Devil, but, he does influence the content.

We're created by God, each an every one of us with a design and a purpose. Some are created as muscians, some artists.

Those who aren't artists or muscians sometimes struggle to find the meanings and the purpose of sounds, lyrics, colors, shapes and symbols, even in figurative writing. (Look at the confusion about the different writing styles in the Bible.)

We can use our gifts for Good or for Evil,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

www.Vigilantcitizen.com does a lot of analysis on rap music using luciferian contexts and imagery. Worth checking out.
