Many are trying to conflate the term “being born again” to the term “the first resurrection.” Are these words/terms the same, and what is the difference? If you search the word resurrection you will find the word is mainly used concerning the raising up of a dead body. I’ll post where it is used below….

KJV Translation Count — Total: 42x
The KJV translates Strong's G386 in the following manner: resurrection (39x), rising again (1x), that should rise (1x), raised to life again (with G1537) (1x).

Now Paul used the term to be raised up in the likeness of Jesus’ resurrection when we are born again, but notice Paul used the word likeness, meaning Paul was comparing it to Jesus’ bodily resurrection.

When we are born again we are not physically resurrected, so what is made new, or renewed when we are born again of the Holy Spirit?

It is our heart/mind/spirit that is renewed when we are symbolically or spiritually made a new man in Christ.

But this in no way replaces the bodily resurrection at the last day. Man is body, soul, and spirit. When we are born again it is our spirit, or our nature that changes, or is renewed, not our body or soul.

This nature/spirit that we are firstborn under is the sin nature of Adam that caused us to be spiritually dead in our sins.

But when we are born again of the Holy Spirit we are given the heart/mind/spirit of Christ. But this in no way replaces the future resurrection of the body at the last day.

Peace and God bless

Let me add this, when you “liken” one thing to another it does not mean the thing which is used to “liken” it to is actually the same thing, nor does it replace it.

For example….

Matthew 13:24
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

Matthew 18:23
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened into a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

Matthew 25:1
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

So those likenesses do not replace the Kingdom of heaven, just as the likeness of being born again to the likeness of a resurrection replace the actual first resurrection.

Romans 6:5
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

No one here claims that being born again of the Holy Spirit replaces the future resurrection of the body at the last day. Those who are born again of the Holy Spirit and physically die and be bodily resurrected in the future at the last day and will bodily inherit the kingdom of God for eternity at that time.

@David in NJ .

When we become Born Again has our spirit not been resurrected and is in Christ?

Our spirit is Alive in Christ...we have been Born Of God’s seed/ Spirit gives birth to spirit.

A supernatural spirit birth?

The moment we were birthed in the Spirit, we received that new heart/ spirit within, we’re a new creation in Christ.

This resurrection concerns our spiritual transformation from death to life: We are “born anew,” “regenerated” — spirits that were once dead in trespasses and sins, now resurrected, raised up, made alive, transformed by the indwelling of the Spirit of God.

When we die , our flesh body will go back into the ground.

We will then have a glorified body, just like Jesus?

Where in the Bible does it say we will have a glorified body?
The Bible says that in heaven Christ “will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (Philippians 3:21).

Correct: When we die our flesh bodies return to dust where they came from.

Correct: We can NEVER die because we are spirit and soul which leaves the flesh body upon death and goes immediately to the LORD Jesus. Remember when the Lord, while on the Cross, said: "FATHER into your hands I commit My Spirit"

Correct: Our spirits have been Born-Again = RAISED in New Life in CHRIST who is Eternal LIFE

Correct: At His Second Coming JESUS brings with Him all the spirits of the saints who died in Him = 1 Thess 4:13-18
Whereby HE then Opens the Graves of only those who are in Him = 1 Thess 4:13-18 and 1 Cor chapter 15 and 1 John 3:1-3
It is at this Moment where we are Transformed into Glorified Bodies just as CHRIST was the First Fruits unto God

KEY verse = 1 John 3:1-3
You will SEE that we are "sons of God" now/Today and then the New Body when HE Comes for us = Second Coming

Yes, that will happen in the future at the last trumpet when Jesus returns and our bodies are changed to be incorruptible and immortal.

1 Corinthians 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Are you saying you don't understand what Paul wrote here:

If you read the verses which come before this, you should see that this is all about the changing of our bodies and it will happen when the dead are resurrected, which hasn't happened yet.

Sorry @Spiritual Israelite ...still not understanding , when you say,

RJ, our spirit has already been resurrected and become Born Again of imperishable/ incorruptible seed, the moment God regenerates our spirit.

Before regeneration, our spirit is alienated from the Spirit of God, hence why it needs to be Born Again, only a Born Again will see the Kingdom Of God.

Flesh and blood" can't inherit the kingdom of God. By flesh and blood, Paul means our corrupt, temporary bodies that are of the earth. That which is dying, "perishable," cannot exist in the deathless realm of eternity with God.
Anyway, I will leave it there...and study the scripture that you posted...thank you.

Again, please look at the verses that precede 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 to see the context of what Paul says is being changed there at the time when the last trumpet sounds and the dead are resurrected.

1 Corinthians 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Can you see here that Paul is contrasting the corruptible, dishonorable and weak natural body that we all have now with the incorruptible, glorious, powerful spiritual body we will one day have? So, when Paul says we will all be changed and put on incorruption and immortality in 1 Cor 15:51-52 he's talking about our bodies being changed from being natural, corruptible, dishonorable, weak and mortal bodies into spiritual, incorruptible, glorious, powerful and immortal bodies.

Jesus told the dying thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). The apostle Paul said that to die was to be with Christ (Philippians 1:23), and to be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). After their deaths, martyrs are pictured in Heaven, crying out to God to bring justice on Earth (Revelation 6:9-11).

A Greeting from Peter
(2 Peter 1:1–2)
1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

To the elect who are exiles of the Dispersion throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, chosena 2according to the foreknowledge of God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

A Living Hope
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us new birthb into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials 7so that the proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

8Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9now that you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets who foretold the grace to come to you searched and investigated carefully, 11trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

A Call to Holiness
(Hebrews 12:14–17)
13Therefore prepare your minds for action.c Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance. 15But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, 16for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”d

17Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, conduct yourselves in reverent fear during your stay as foreigners. 18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot. 20He was known before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in the last times for your sake.

21Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.

The Enduring Word
(Isaiah 40:6–8)
22Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.e 23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24For,

“All flesh is like grass,
and all its glory like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25but the word of the Lord stands forever.”f
And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.

Romans 8
King James Version
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

??? What did he say different?

Hello @Spiritual Israelite .

You posted.

RJ says, I think we misunderstood each other ,you are talking here I believe, not sure, that our dead bodies that were either buried/ cremated...

Will be turned from corruptible into incorruptible bodies, we will have glorified bodies just like Jesus, absolutely, I agree...

I thought you were talking about our Born Again spirit.things being said on the forum at times, can be quite confusing to understand, as we are all at different levels of understanding.

RJ, our spirit has already been resurrected and become Born Again of imperishable/ incorruptible seed, the moment God regenerates our spirit.

This is the verse you are talking about…

1 Peter 1:23
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

The incorruptible seed is Christ,( the Word of God) that now dwells in us.

The spirit has been renewed, But being born again of the Spirit does not replace the first bodily resurrection.

Sure, but that doesn't change the fact that no one here claims that being born again of the Holy Spirit replaces the future resurrection of the body at the last day as you falsely claimed.
Then tell me, which resurrection is to the dead in Christ, the first resurrection or the second resurrection?

Our spirit has been Born Again, by the Living Spirit Of God, our spirit has been resurrected and brought to life by regeneration, the seed that we have been Born Again of, is the incorruptible seed, that seed is the Living Holy Spirit, who has birthed our spirit into His.

Flesh gives birth to flesh = human birth.

Spirit gives birth to spirit = spiritual birth/ supernatural birth/ regenerated/ Born Of God’s seed/ Born Again of imperishable/ incorruptible seed... all mean the same thing.

Interesting commentary.

What happens after death?

ANSWER

Within the Christian faith, there is a significant amount of confusion regarding what happens after death. Some hold that after death everyone “sleeps” until the final judgment, after which everyone will be sent to heaven or hell. Others believe that at the moment of death people are instantly judged and sent to their eternal destinations. Still others claim that, when people die, their souls/spirits are sent to a “temporary” heaven or hell to await the final resurrection, the final judgment, and the finality of their eternal destination. So, what exactly does the Bible say happens after death?

First, for the believer in Jesus Christ, the Bible tells us that after death believers’ souls/spirits are taken to heaven, because their sins were forgiven when they received Christ as Savior (John 3:16, 18, 36). For believers, death means being “away from the body and at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6–8; Philippians 1:23). However, passages such as 1 Corinthians 15:50–54 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13–17 describe believers being resurrected and given glorified bodies. If believers go to be with Christ immediately after death, what is the purpose of this resurrection? It seems that, while the souls/spirits of believers go to be with Christ immediately at death, the physical body remains in the grave “sleeping.” At the resurrection of believers, the physical body is resurrected, glorified, and reunited with the soul/spirit. This reunited and glorified body-soul-spirit will be the state of existence for believers for eternity in the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21—22).

Second, for those who do not receive Jesus Christ as Savior, death means everlasting punishment. However, similar to the destiny of believers, it seems that unbelievers also go to a temporary holding place to await their final resurrection, judgment, and eternal destiny. Luke 16:22–23 describes a rich man being tormented immediately after death. Revelation 20:11–15 describes all the unbelieving dead being resurrected, judged at the great white throne, and cast into the lake of fire. Unbelievers, then, are not sent to the final “hell” (the lake of fire) immediately after death; rather, they are rather sent to a temporary realm of fiery judgment and anguish. The rich man cried out, “I am in agony in this fire” (Luke 16:24).

After death, a person resides in either a place of comfort or in a place of torment. These realms act as a temporary “heaven” and a temporary “hell” until the resurrection. At that point, the soul is reunited with the body, but no one’s eternal destiny will change. The first resurrection is for the “blessed and holy” (Revelation 20:6)—everyone who is in Christ—and those who are part of the first resurrection will enter the millennial kingdom and, ultimately, the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21:1). The other resurrection happens after Christ’s millennial kingdom, and it involves a judgment on the wicked and unbelieving “according to what they had done” (Revelation 20:13). These, whose names are not in the book of life, will be sent to the lake of fire to experience the “second death” (Revelation 20:14–15). The new earth and the lake of fire—these two destinations are final and eternal. People go to one or the other, based entirely on whether they have trusted Jesus Christ for salvation (Matthew 25:46; John 3:36).

Then tell me, which resurrection is to the dead in Christ, the first resurrection or the second resurrection?
The second, of course. Paul gave us the order of resurrections as I have shown you already several times. Again....

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

Scripture is VERY clear that Christ's resurrection itself is the first resurrection (unto bodily immortality). That is what Christ becoming "the firstfruits of them that slept" by way of His bodily resurrection means. And, in case there's any question about that, he also said this:

Acts 26:23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.

The order of resurrections unto bodily immortality that Paul gives is that Christ's was first. That's the first resurrection. Next in order, according to Paul, will be "they that are Christ's at his coming". So, that's the second resurrection, not the first. And that is according to Paul. If you trust that Paul knew what he was talking about about, as I do, then you will adjust your understanding accordingly.
