I don't know how advanced in years you are 1CL, but I certainly agree with you. As I view the world and the church, turning 99 in view of the second coming is unthinkable. And yet I still remember clearly that in the 80s I didn't think I'd reach 45.

I remember at about 16 at SDA academy, I didn't think I'd see 21.

Liberal Christianity is the kind of Christianity that does some of the following:

1.Scripture is not the Word of God but contains the Word of God
2. Gays can practice their homosexuality and still be considered members in good standing.
3. Lot of "pro choice people.
4. More than one way to salvation

among many others. I don't know what causes you to be liberal societally or politically., but I do not believe you hold to things like this.

Where did you get these definitions? Here is one that I found online...

Liberal Christianity is the faith practiced by most mainline Protestants, including adherents of the United Church of Canada, the United Church of Christ (U.S.), Anglicans, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists and others. In addition, many Roman Catholics in North America are liberal Christians, given their open-minded interpretation of church teachings.

... that describes my faith.

I am a liberal; I believe that...

1. Scripture is the Word of God.
2. I do not discriminate against anyone because of their sexual preference. Do you approve of adulterers or people who watch porn? You didn't mention them. Jesus said to love your neighbor and didn't mention homosexuality even once.
3. I am "pro-choice", as I don't believe that the government should interfere in any person's medical decisions. I don't approve of women (or teenagers) having their lives threatened by dangerous pregnancies, e.g., ectopic pregnancies, nor do I approve of women being forced to give birth because of rape or incest.
4. There is only one way to salvation: Jesus Christ.

As I said, I am a liberal. You can believe me or what you read online.

Suppose that I said that you approve of unlimited gun ownership, even if it results in mass murder of grade school children. Would that be accurate? (Same principle!)

Well I tire of your judgmental spirit. But I already explained which Gentiles had to keep Sabbath- have the last word.

YOu spirit is to dark and legalistic for me to stomach anymore.
No, you just can't tolerate the Bible.

You have a set belief system, that is steeped in church teaching that contradicts God's Word, and you can't manage to part from that.

That's all.

I gave you some scriptures, why don't you respond to them?

I am glad to see you can spot the more in my eye with the beam in yours!

I answer and you ignore- why should I answer every post when you ignore the ones from Scripture you disagree with?
You answer—Give me a break.
'Copy and paste' is more like it, and then shout a pre-pubescent line or two.
Accuse me of the exact thing you're doing. Playground stuff.
Why should I answer the same verses twice?
If you're just gonna phone this stuff in maybe we should call it a day.
What I'm seeing is the garden-variety hit-and-run on the Sabbath.

I don't see any splinter in anyone's eye; we're talking about the manner of discussion here.
I'm not accusing anybody of any moral failure.
Enough with the crybaby routine, already (I suppose this will precipitate an emotional crisis).

Where is there in scripture anything requiring a conversion to Judaism? Conversion required always a return to God... The church in the OT was merely God's instrument in teaching and explaining the law and demonstrating the love of God... His character... To the world. The first and foremost thing for any one outside of Israel was to acknowledge the Good of Israel and keep His Commandments. You didn't absolutely need Israel to do that.

KJV Isaiah 56:1-7
1 Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.
2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
3 Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

KJV Acts 13:42-44
42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of the Lord
.
The Old Testament is effectively hated and castigated by many, it seems, because it testifies so deeply and broadly to the fallacy of dispensationalism. It refers to the New Covenant way of faith practically throughout. So, folks want New Testament testimony only and especially the Pauline Epistles, because they are so susceptible to twisting, as is referenced by Peter in a warning that practically no one heeds.

And even the New Testament evidence for an Eternal Covenant is completely ignored, except, of course, for the countering of ambiguous NT texts that are in no way clear enough to negate the Law of God which was practiced by Jesus Whom, according to John, we are to walk even as He walked, if we say we abide in Him.

The Sabbath of the 4th commandment, is mentioned roughly 160 times in the 66 books of the Bible, 45 of which are contained in—guess which four books? That's right—the Gospels. This means that the Sabbath is affirmed in over 25% of total occurrences in merely 6% of the content of the Bible, with that minute content being found in the New Testament.

I noticed something last night as I was reading The Desire Of Ages. She was talking about the confrontation between Christ and the Pharisees and Sadducees during the week before the Crucifixion, and she quoted Matthew 23:23:

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
Notice that "the weightier matters" of "the law" are "justice, mercy, and faith."

Folks who object to the ten commandments constantly define the term "law" in the New Testament as "the Law of Moses," (moral and ceremonial—unless it is profitable for them to do otherwise) which they despise when its claims are presented before them.

But Jesus says that law is concerned primarily with "justice, mercy, and faith."

How could a New Covenant believer object to a law that is based upon justice mercy, and faith???

How could folks not see that the language of 2 Corinthians 3 must be figurative in some way, in light of Jesus's remarks in Matthew 23:23?

Not according to the Bible. "For we consider that a person is declared righteous by faith apart from the works of the law." Romans 3:28

"For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not fulfilled through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith." Romans 4:13

"Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" Romans 5:1

"Now it is clear no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous one will live by faith." Galatians 3:11

"Thus the law had become our guardian until Christ, so that we could be declared righteous by faith." Galatians 3:24

"But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, I take no pleasure in him." Hebrews 10:38

"By faith Abel offered God a greater sacrifice than Cain, and through his faith he was commended as righteous, because God commended him for his offerings. And through his faith he still speaks, though he is dead." Hebrews 11:4

"By faith Noah, when he was warned about things not yet seen, with reverent regard constructed an ark for the deliverance of his family. Through faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith." Hebrews 11:7

Clearly, what one does is what not what makes one righteous. Righteousness is by faith.
Mmmm. I mean, I agree with the scriptures you posted of course, (who would say otherwise) but we need to be careful when we talk about righteousness by faith. It is a much misunderstood subject... We aren't righteous simply because we believe we are. We are righteous because we believe/trust in the One who makes us righteous because we believe... Remember Abraham?
First by declaring we are forgiven/righteous through the blood of the Lamb and no longer under condemnation, second through the sanctification process which makes us righteous according to the recreative power off the Word dwelling within us. The evidence and fruit of that, and that all of the above is an active working principle in the life of the believer, and therefore a true Christian, is the resulting obedience to the law.

KJV Romans 5:17-19
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

KJV Romans 8:3-6
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

I agree that we are not saved by our obedience. But we shall be judged by our obedience. If our works do not harmonize with our profession, we are lost.

Abraham was declared righteous true because he believed, but God kept His covenant with Abraham
KJV Genesis 26:5
5 because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Because they believe the God who gave the law is unfair, unjust, arbitrary and judgemental, so they fail/refuse to see those qualities (edit... Justice, mercy, faith) enshrined in the law... Especially the Sabbath. Christians can't get rid off the law fast enough.

There are others who teach we are saved by BOTH faith AND works and hold fast to "type 2 works salvation." From this site - We are justified by both faith and works. James 2:24 says we are justified by works and not by faith alone. You are simply double talking your way out of why Abraham was justified by works in James 2:21. James asks the question imply that Abraham was justified by works. It’s not saying faith that underlies works is what really saved him and not the works. James implies that Abraham was justified by works. That is what he is plainly saying that you don’t like. Yes, we are not first justified by works. Works only follow after we are first saved by God’s grace (Which is a process of salvation without works because it is based upon God’s mercy and grace). Being saved by God’s grace is how we are first initially saved. But if works in no way saves, then you can not lift a finger for God, and still be saved in this life. In the Parable of the Talents, we learn that the servant who was faithful over a few things was told to enter the joy of His Lord, and yet the unprofitable servant was cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

This is just a sample.

Yes, this last paragraph is mine and I believe that is what the Bible plainly teaches (of which you reject) (Note: For our other readers here, this quote can be found here). It’s good you recognize that faith (a belief in Jesus) saves but that is not the whole truth when you read the whole of your New Testament. After we are saved by God’s grace without works (Initial Salvation) (Ephesians 2:8-9), we can see we must enter the Sanctification Process by the Spirit for salvation, too (See: 2 Thessalonians 2:13). Any fair and objective person reading the Bible can see that there are tons of verses that show that we must also live holy as a part of God’s plan of salvation. For we are told to follow after holiness without which no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). James 2:24 says you are justified by works and not by faith alone, and yet you deny this verse by saying you believe in faith alone. James 2:17 says faith without works is dead. Yet somehow you think you can be saved with a dead faith because you push faith alone (or a belief alone for salvation). But even the demons believe and tremble.

While we are not under the Laws of Moses (the 613), or the Saturday Sabbath, circumcision, dietary laws, etcetera (Romans 6:14) (Colossians 2:16) (Acts of the Apostles 13:39) (Acts of the Apostles 15:1) (Acts of the Apostles 15:5) (Acts of the Apostles 15:24), we do have to live holy (and keep the commands of Christ and His apostles) after we are saved by God’s grace. Paul himself said he was not without the Law of God and that he was under the Law of Christ (1 Corinthians 9:21). To say so otherwise goes against the words of Jesus and His followers.

Paul says,

“If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing,…” (1 Timothy 6:3-4).

James 4:6 says God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

To deny holy living for salvation means one can live like the devil and be saved. If no holy living of any kind plays a part in salvation, then a person can be a porn star, an axe murderer, a thief, and be saved all because they have a belief alone in Jesus as their Savior. This is what you are promoting (even though you are double minded and you try to double talk your way out of it by saying the believer is changed and lives holy against their free will; But you really don’t believe they will live holy because you think 1 John 1:8 is a banner flag of how the believer must sin either daily, weekly, or monthly the rest of their life). For if a child heard your message and you never seen them again, they could turn out to be the next George Sodini who was a Once Saved Always Saved believing Christian who killed a bunch of people and then took his own life (thinking he was saved). Remember what Jesus said about if you lead a child into sin? That is what your doctrine does, dear sir. It justifies sin and evil under God’s grace. But God’s grace is not a license for immorality (Jude 1:4 NIV). Paul asks, shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? Paul says, God forbid (Romans 6:1-2). But your doctrine allows you to continue in sin so that grace may abound.

Anyways, here are Works For Salvation Verses (After We are Saved By God’s Grace):

  1. “Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” (James 2:24).

  2. “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” (James 2:17).

  3. 10 “For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.” (Titus 1:10, and Titus 1:16).

  4. “And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.” (Luke 10:25-28).

  5. “And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” (John 5:29).

  6. “For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.” (Romans 11:21-22).

  7. “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee ? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee ? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” (Matthew 25:34-46).

  8. “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.” (1 John 3:10).

  9. “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27).

  10. “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.” (John 15:5-6).

  11. “And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.” (1 Peter 4:18-19).

  12. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” (Hebrews 12:14).

  13. “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” (Matthew 3:10).

  14. “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1 John 2:4).

And I will add this passage again (just in case it did not sink in):

15. If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing,…” (1 Timothy 6:3-4).

I just finished watching am older series of his... Rethinking prophecy. I will look up the above.
It looks like they're going to save it on the page history. It's "pa conference of sda" I think. We usually have an exceptional camp meeting. I like Pastor Asscherick but he loses me sometimes, be talks so fast, more so when he was young I think. I'm kinda weird when it comes to speaking voices. Shrill and high-pitched unnerves me. But I can take a calm or raised voice as long as it's deep or baritone. My favorite teacher's voice really bothered me at first but I couldn't resist his content so I got used to it. I listen to Audioverse a lot and when I started listening about 10 years ago his stuff was always highly recommended by the staff. Now he's off in Bangladesh training colporteurs, so he's kinda off the grid. They also have 170 or so of HMS Richards's old Voice Of Prophecy radio broadcasts. They're golden. He was C.D. Brooks's favorite preacher. The Amazing Facts website has old Joe Crews and Byron Spears stuff. I like the oldies. They have so much Scripture in them. A lot of the old pioneer books are about half-Scripture. They were big on quoting without citing. It was like part of their language. Oh yeah, I'm rambling now. ;)

I never met David, but we had a very good common friend in NZ until he passed away a few years ago with cancer. He used to take David fly fishing, but our friend was also an exceptional Bible student. I can imagine he and David having some great conversations.
I have a friend here who every day sends me at least 2 sermons from Audio verse. But I never knew that resource existed until 2 years ago. What a wealth of writers and preachers we have had, and still have. We have no excuses for neglecting so great salvation.

Who's Forrest? As in Forrest Gump?

Righteousness comes either by works or by faith. But then faith without works is dead. However, God will justify by faith because He knows in advance what we will do. Otherwise a dying person would never have the time to prove his/her faith. So then believing is an act of faith that justifies a person if God sees it as such. No one can ever justify themselves for their own beliefs or works. Only God justifies.

At the higher level, we are not justified in Christ by receiving truths (plural) but the truth. Truths are accepted by the mind. God has no covenant with the mind. God only establishes covenant with the heart. There is a world of difference in this....

Yes, Forrest as in Forrest Gump. You said righteous is as righteous does, and I picked up on it.

God judges our heart condition, works are required, but you mentioned a man on his death bed that chooses at that point to serve God. Fact is God knows his heart, and his salvation will be based on that, but he has a great chance of salvation as long as he didn't sin against the holy spirit, he will be resurrected into a world without satan, logically he will accept the requirements of life then. If one continues to serve God till the return of Christ, Jesus and his angels will remove them, as they have been judged wicked. You are 100% correct that works can not save you, but then again neither can a dead faith. As I said, James made it quite clear that faith proven by works does save. Best not to play around. All Christians do works for God, if they are capable. Those who are incapable of serving God are the only ones who will get the "free ride" so to speak. But of course they will be capable after Jesus' return, and all will do the will of God if they desire life.
